Earth Prime is the first of two collections of aftermath stories set in the distant future of the Earth Girl trilogy (Earth Girl, Earth Star, and Earth Flight).


This collection is set immediately after Earth Flight, and focuses on Jarra, Fian, and the other archaeologists before they head to excavate the alien ruins on Fortuna.

A dream-come-true continuation of the excellent Earth Girl series. A fantastic storyteller at the top of her craft.

If you have read the Earth Girl series then absolutely get your hands on this book, it starts right where the last book finishes off. If you have not read the previous books about Jarra, I would advise reading them first (they are great!).

While the contents give a sense that these are standalone short stories, or novelettes, I read them as an ongoing story as they followed on one from the other, covering the same narrative timeframe, except for the story at the end. These stories and novelettes aren’t particularly short, so there isn’t any jarring or sense of dislocation in moving from one to the other, as we got to know more about some of the members of the History class that Jarra attended. I enjoyed most of the stories in this, anything in this world is a great addition to the world, but there is the start of a relationship I am not sure I am going to like.

The interactions between these two characters in other short stories led me to believe that they were just two friends who were constantly being forced together. I can't wait for part 2! Or even an eventual sequel series.

It was fun to reread "the end and new beginnings", but with the alterations Janet Edwards made for the released version. They gave informations to thing going on elsewhere in this universe - loved the tiny breadcrumbs :)
But what I found interesting the most was that in a sense all the stories were separate, but telling a broader picture at the same time. Every story is connected in a sense to the previous one.
