Super religious backdrop. Author frequently mentions characters religious ferver. This is a point of contention between the pilot and his (zealot?) wife. All she wants to do is talk about Jesus' love and forgivness. Given his fantiasies about the pretty flight attentdent, the pilot would is looking for something else from their relationship.

There's also a subplot of a miracle in Isreal. An Isreali scientist creates an elixir that fertalizes the desert, making it fertile enough to grow anything. The Russians want it. They attempt to blow Isreal off the map but their attempts are tharted by hail, an earthquake, and bombs that refuse to detinate.

The main plot is that people suddenly dissapear, leaving behind clothes and jewlery.
