The Children of the Gods #44

Dark Secrets Resurgence

Rate this book
On a sabbatical from his Stanford teaching position, Professor David Levinson finally has time to write the sci-fi novel he’s been thinking about for years.

The phenomena of past life memories and near-death experiences are too controversial to include in his formal psychiatric research, while fiction is the perfect outlet for his esoteric ideas.

Hoping that a change of pace will provide the inspiration he needs, David accepts a friend’s invitation to an old Scottish castle.

Except, what he finds there is more fantastical than his most outlandish theories. The castle is home to a clan of immortals, their leader is a stunning demigoddess, and even more shockingly, it might be precisely where he belongs.

Highly disappointed

This book was written like there weren’t 43 precious books on the topic. The Accord between Annani’s people and Kal’s was suddenly changed to being between the clan and the Devout Order of Mordth Brotherhood? Kalugal and his men do not represent the Doomers in any shape form or fashion. The fled a long time ago and broke ties with them, establishing their own clan of sorts. When Sari hosted the ceremony, she said it like they were signing a treaty between the clan and the Doomers. The funny thing was, neither Kian or Kal corrected her, which makes it seem like they all believe that to be true, but in all the past books with Kal eating with Kian it was never said to be that and Kal has adamantly stated he wants nothing to do with them.

Then there’s the lack of imagination with the same plot over and over with newly fated couples and the self doubt and unsureness. These beings have lived for a long time and when they suddenly feels connection to the new dormant they always deny it, despite the increase of fated mates that they have recently been blessed with. As much as they gossip, it’s not like no one has mentioned what it felt like when they found their fated one and only. It’s not new anymore. And they’ve lived for so long they would know if they’ve felt that type of connection, pull, etc towards someone else before… and they haven’t. So they next logical conclusion should be… duh.

The way this book opened let me know I was going to be disappointed and skip a lot. Sari had just been praying to the Fates about a fated mate and asking what did she do wrong in her life to keep being skipped over. Then, David walks in with her family of immortals, the branch known for actively seeking Dormants, and she asks why there is a human with them? But even before that, she looks into his eyes and something unlocks in her? Then she asks that dumb as question? The author makes the characters look dumb as hell when she does stuff like that. She takes a character who was previously believed to be somewhat intelligent and has them say and do the dumbest crap for the sake of stretching the book out page wise. She looked even dumber with the way she went about explaining immorality initially.

Back home, Eleanor is still trying to acclimate. I swear the last book said they were going to let Greggory stay or something, but it’s been at least a month since she has saw him. She still hasn’t even tried to talk to Vanessa, but she made at least one friend.

Vlad still hasn’t done a thing towards his investigation. Stella is hiding something rather fiercely and it’s getting on my nerves. At one point I was thinking she had sex with Vlad the crazy family member and had Vlad her son, especially since everyone wondered why she’d name him after him. But now I wonder if she was sexually assaulted.

Richard is no longer a gigilo for the clan, but he’s also still human. It didn’t make sense to me why they wouldn’t take him to Scotland to see if his match was there. It’s as if Kian’s branch has the only females. 🙄🙄 Probably another oversight by the author. Just like the fact that a couple of people recognized their true love match, or at least felt the incredible pull, from looking at their picture; Dalhu, Julian and the Arwel. They could have just sent the photos of the single males to all clan branches and the females to Kal’s. It may have gotten a few people started on at least getting to know each other. Video chat and all that.

Anyway, I hope the writing improves. See my notes and highlights on Goodreads. Happy reading!

This book was received as an ARC from I.T. Lucas, the following opinions and commentary are my own and in no way reflect the author, publisher, and other readers. Dark Secrets Resurgence is the part one Dark Secrets series (generally a trilogy) and book 44 in the greater Children of the Gods series. It is the story of Sari and David

The Fates have been working overtime in southern California working their magic to bring fated mates together--completely ignoring the Scottish and Alaskan arms of the Clan. Kalugal gets a bug in his ear that tells him to get Sari and David together. With a little push, he gets David to jump down the rabbit-hole and get a new world open up to him.

Sari is open to having David as her mate but she fears secrets from the ancient past will implode their budding relationship. The Fates are quite the busy beavers in this book: Making the ex-Doomer Prince a matchmaker, pairing Sari with a Dormant with a past life, and let's throw in a well-meaning drama queen to spice up the signing of the Accords.

Hmmm not the usual standard sadly 🤔

It pains me to say it as I love this series and eagerly anticipate every books release but this latest instalment fell short for me. It was not up to usual standards , it felt rushed throughout. David & Sari's story could have been just as good as every other couples but for me it wasn't, I found myself skipping they pages which I never do. Added to that there was barely a mention of Edna and Rusfar which again, I thought very strange as their story hasn't been properly concluded either.
All in all I wasn't impressed , as I said earlier, I have loved every single book in this series but feel disappointed with this one sadly.
I really hope Ms Lucas regains her mojo before the next book is due for release....................

Dark Secrets Resurgence (The Children Of The Gods Paranormal Romance Series Book 44) - I.T. Lucas

This was such an unexpected new storyline with a very interesting new male character , David a psychologist, professor and author. The author has introduced this character briefly in previous books as his studies in reincarnation which caught Kalugal’s attention.
Kalugal it seems, also has some matchmaking skills as he immediately thought of Sari, (the female heading Annani’s clan in Scotland), when he met David, as well as being drawn to him as a possible dormant.
David has his own troubled background but his handsome charming looks win Sari over when Kalugal invites him to for the special signing of “the Accord” between Kalugal’s and Annani’s clan.
Scotland being the setting for this book brought a whole new world to the series as well as focusing on new characters tees and a greater look into Sari’s storyline.
There are many secondary stories lines weaving seamlessly throughout the book as well as other favorite clan characters have significant roles as well. So many new developments I was riveted to the book the entire read, the next book can’t come soon enough. I’m amazed at how fresh, exciting and original this series continues to be.

Rushed

While I like new characters, I think David's character was rushed. Being a professor at an Ivy League university takes a lot of hard work, yet reduced to a two day I love you relationship is rushed with no depth to it. At first I thought this was going to focus on David, but I read about Sari's insecurities as a leader. Strong women characters are often written with some type of insecurities that's seems reasonable, but Sari's insecurity about her mother's possible relationship with someone that reminds her of David is a bit much. Yes I'm curious as to how Annani may have met David reincarnated, sounds intriguing, yet sad. I'm also curious about the Odus and their story. My belief is the Odus are sentient beings, a perhaps David's story in entertwined with the immortals that way?

Sari and david

I have been re reading this series from the beginning because I could not remember how far I got I remembered Jackis wedding but was not sure what book, this series is still currently going at 60 books but all covers look simular.so I thought why not but now I have finally not felt like a seer and have not read this book.(I think)
I was not happy with the mothers history with David's past self he might be in a different body now with no history (kind off) of past life but his soul is the same soul.it felt yukie.
I am hoping he turns out to be her guard or something or he is getting flashed of his family's line history not his (maybe her dead husbands son from another life) it just feels yuk.I'm guessing he does have powers of past lives.or maybe he can channel others?

Dark Secrets Resurgence KU 330 pgs **** 8/19/21 Prof. David & Sari (Scotland)

4 stars. I love David and Sari together, too bad Annani threw a wrench in the beginning though. I may be seeing Annani through different eyes for a while unless something else happens to correct that vision. This book had humor, Kian and Kalugal were getting a long really well and even had some “poke fun at” each other at times. This makes me happy; I was so tired of all of Kian’s paranoia regarding Kalugal, it was really getting on my nerves. I know there is some underlying paranoia, but I can live with that for now. Finally, the US clan seems to be moving upward and onward, now we need the Scotland clan to follow along. Can’t wait for the next book, hopefully more excitement and “togetherness”

Sari & David Bk44

Kalagul meet Sari his cousin at his wedding to Jackie at the Village. Upon meeting her he heard Professor David's name whispered to him and he instantly felt David & Sari would make a great match.
After returning home but before heading to Scotland to sign the treaty with the Clan Kalagul got in touch with his old friend David and asked him to accompanying them to Scotland as he was on a sabbatical from work to write his next book.

Wow the fates have been playing again I hope Sari and David get their HEA as there seems to be dark secrets waiting to be unearthed anytime🤔🤔😁

Sari and David;

I have been waiting so excited for Sari’s story. We finally arrive at the Scottish castle. It’ll be interesting to see what David chooses to do with his time. Will he research or write full time, or even help Sari. However, I’m going to fast we don’t know how he’ll react once he transitions. Apparently, we’re going to hear a lot more from Annanni. Can’t wait to read when her husband returns!

Good start for Sari

I am enjoying this grand saga. I am a fan and have read all the books so far. The story has envolved beautifully. This book is for Kian’s sister Sari. She is the leader for their family in Scotland. Sari has been waiting for some blessings of her own with mates. So far they have not had any, but her cousin surprised her with a gift. He brought her a potential dormant male to see if there is an affinity. This begins this book. Read On!

Coming together

Finally the fates are.smiling down on the Scottish arm of the clan, Sari finds her mate in an unexpected guest. David is a young professor, but highly respected for his research into PTSD. He takes a sabbatical in order to concentrate on writing his second novel that holds his true passion. When he lands in Scotland and arrives at a castle his entire life is about to change. I love how David questions everything, but yet accepts it as well. I look forward to seeing how their relationship grows.

New With Updates

Great new tale. Loved getting to know Sari better and meeting David. I also appreciated the updates on Richard's story and Eleanor's. I truly hope Richard has made at least 2 or 3 babies. Eleanor's is becoming aware of her negativity and working on her attitude. Sari's story is the jewel. She and David will have a great love I also hope she is pregnant.

Questions abound. This is family drama

The thing about this series that I love the most is its like a Telanovella. All kinds of family intrigue and side plots going on. Is Jackie pregnant??? How did Kri end up BBFs with Eleanor?? It's just too juicy not to count the days until the next book.

Novels seem to be getting shorter

I am hooked on the story and ready for the next one but it seems like the novels take up about three fourths of the book and the rest is a recap of the previous stories. Disappointing when I'm checking to see how much more there is left to this story, and many of the others, and it's ended but very unfinished. Now I must wait for another month plus to read the next one.

Fantastisc

Unbelievable but the true, it gets better with each book. When you think we are nearing the end, a new door opens for even more mystery and romance. We now get so many mote interesting characters and so many mysteries to solve. I hope it will keep to come for many years.

I Really Enjoyed This

I really enjoyed this. Not only do we get a better look at Sari and the clan in Scotland, but we have the introduction of a brand new character in Professor David Levinson.

I can't wait to find out the truth about what actually happened between Annani and whoever David was in his past life!

Kalugal is playing match maker. We now get to see the Castle in Scotland.
David and Sari are instantly attracted to each other. Annani and David have a history in David's past reincarnation.
Overall, so far it's a good read. Can't wait to find out what the secret about their history is.
The clan and Kalugal's men officially signed the contract to merge their people.

I fell off track and didn’t get to this book until 2 more were already available. That never happens, BUT it gave me the chance to read with abandon & not be concerned about finishing too soon! Every book flies by & gets more interesting!!

I'm a bit intrigued by this book. Probably as much as I was with Wonder's story. Yet, my intrigue is on David himself and his past life. How does Annani tie into things. Will, Sari and he, survive what's to come?
