Recipes Don’t Sound Good

I love smoothies and have been making my own for years. But I'm always up for a new smoothie book, as I'm always on the lookout for new and tasty-sounding combinations. I tend to fall back on the familiar ones. Unfortunately, I found the ingredient combinations in this book not to my liking at all. Nearly all the green smoothie recipes had bananas, which I absolutely do not like. Other smoothies seemed like they might be far too bitter, like the recipe that included raw rhubarb with no sweetening aside from an orange. The author has an extensive introductory section with information about smoothies in general as well as her 10-day cleanse. She only listed one smoothie for each day; 2 or 3 would be better if you are truly going to do a cleanse. The book’s writing is sometimes a bit strange, as if someone for whom English is not their native language wrote it. This is fine, of course, but the book should be copyedited, proofread, or at least vetted by a native English speaker. Strange word choices include using the word “intake” as a verb that appears to mean eat; “assimilate” was another strange word to use when talking about getting nutrients. Despite the somewhat lengthy introductory section, the author doesn't talk about some things she should, like unusual ingredients in the smoothie recipes, like chlorella and vegan protein powder. Since the author seemed to be a proponent of using all-natural ingredients in smoothies, I was surprised to see the vegan protein powder. All in all, I was not impressed with either the informational part of the book or the recipes. If you are looking for a good smoothie book or smoothie cleanse book, I recommend finding another one.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

Despite having heard about smoothies for years, I have never had one fresh in my own home. They just seemed like too much trouble to make. However, for health reasons I have had to find other ways to eat greens cooked or processed so that I can digest them. I already have most of the ingredients in my house or growing in my yard, so the preparation part is easy for me. I am quite excited because I love fresh kale and spinach, but have been told to eat very little of it raw. With a smoothie, I can have my favorites again mixed with other ingredients that I enjoy. Thanks for the book.

Strawberry spinach green smoothie, Kale banana smoothie, and green wheatgrass smoothies – these are three of the things that I would die for! (or at least I would play dead like a possum xD.) I love those things, and they are regular in my kitchen! Thanks for showing me them, this book is worth buying at least for those three!

This book includes many recipes that are different than many smoothie books on the market. The recipes include healthy additions that I have never considered adding to a smoothie. I look forward to trying many of them.
