Have you ever read a book that makes you wish you could unread it, forget everything, and read it again for the first time? My book hangover from this one is going to kill me. I'm so sad it's over. I loved it SO much. I want to listen to the audiobook and find a signed copy and watch every Zoom appearance the author goes on to talk about the book because it made my heart soooooooo ridiculously happy.

The story is told in Poppy's POV and it bounces from present day to flashbacks of her yearly summ Have you ever read a book that makes you wish you could unread it, forget everything, and read it again for the first time? The story is told in Poppy's POV and it bounces from present day to flashbacks of her yearly summer vacations with her best friend Alex, starting twelve years ago. Each flashback brings you closer to present day, building the friendship in a delicious, almost maddening slow burn, opposites attract, friends to lovers romance. I wasn't even 1/3rd of the way through and I already wanted to smash their faces together like KISS YOU FOOLS! YOU'RE MADE FOR EACH OTHER!!! GAAAAHHHHH!!!!

Let's talk about the main character, Poppy. I love her. I love her in a I-could-keep-reading-books-about-you-for-the-rest-of-your-fictional-life kind of way. There could be a series that just follows Poppy as she grows old and I'd buy every single one and save them in my memory shoebox. She's got this sharp, unapologetic wit to her that's the perfect juxtaposition to the reserved, almost demur Alex. Don't get me wrong, Alex is hilarious in his own right, matching her tit for tat. But it's a humor that he withholds only for his back and forth with Poppy, so you really do feel like you're getting the true "naked" (as Poppy would say) Alex, in her company. They have this unmistakable, unique chemistry and their dialogue is FIRE. Honestly, this book had some of the best dialogue I've read in a looooong time. I was cracking up at some of the stuff these two said and thought.

The angst is just *chef's kiss*. And also, one bed. One friggin bed. Witty banter, sexual tension, one bed—all my favorite things in the same book???

Emily Henry must keep writing. We must protect her at all costs so she can keep giving us new books. This was absolutely my favorite read of the year, and probably one of my favorite books of all time. ...more

I think I want to give million hugs to author right now! I fell so hard for her latest book Beach Read which is still my favorite romance book of last year!

I thought nothing she may write could be better than this lyrical/ dreamy/ feel good- tear jerker love story . It is unbelievably amazing mash up of When Harry Met Sally- Love, Rosie- One Day with combinations of 90’s best Meg Ryan romcoms vibes!

The couple’s first meeting and their road trip is truly inspired by When Harry Met Sally as the author mentioned at the end of the book but their 12 hilarious, inspirational, adventurous, exciting trips and the way of storytelling makes you gather the clues to find the missing matches to complete the puzzle to understand their 12 years long friendship zone relationship is outstandingly smart.

Poppy and Alex were so so real, so powerful, so genuine! I feel like I have been knowing them for a long time. They’re polar opposites, wanting different things from life. As Poppy hates Linfield and khakis, those two things are Alex’s favorite things. As Poppy is vivid, energetic, hyperactive, adventurer, risk taker, Alex is more serene, picky, bookish, calm, controlling. Poppy never wants to settle down, desiring to experience different things from the life as Alex sticks to his routine, living at the same neighborhood, dreaming of being a happy family man.

But could wanting to different things from life stop them to yearn for each other?

Two years ago something happened in their Croatia trip. Now Poppy misses her friend like crazy, she’s not happy with her life and she cannot concentrate on her job! She decides to dodge a bullet, asking her best friend for one last trip to Palm Springs to fix their relationship. What could go wrong when you’re having an adventurous holiday with your favorite person?
Right!???

I don’t want to give any spoilers but I can only say one thing. There’s a part at the last third: Poppy gives a powerful and bold speech at the bar: the speech made me cried for at least three hours! My husband finally lost control and put duct tapes to my mouth to make me shut up. I think I’m also suffering from dried eye syndrome. I may have dropped at least five gallons of tears and I think I’m out of tears for a long time! But that emotional speech and entire book made my entire year!

I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I LOVED IT SO MUCH! I LOVED IT SO MUCH!

Okay, I’m stopping right now! I’m giving five gazillion stars to this amazing book and I’m specifically giving the last third: entire galaxy!

This is a sort of Harry met Sally but substituting when Poppy met Alex. Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen have been friends for a while and take vacations together. Poppy works for a travel magazine and Alex is a teacher in their home town in Ohio. The story is told in varying holiday timelines from twelve years ago to now.

Having loved Beach Read I eagerly anticipated this one. However, although I like it, it doesn’t resonate as much as the previous book. The characters are very diffe 3.5 rounded up.

This is a sort of Harry met Sally but substituting when Poppy met Alex. Poppy Wright and Alex Nilsen have been friends for a while and take vacations together. Poppy works for a travel magazine and Alex is a teacher in their home town in Ohio. The story is told in varying holiday timelines from twelve years ago to now.

Having loved Beach Read I eagerly anticipated this one. However, although I like it, it doesn’t resonate as much as the previous book. The characters are very different to each other with Poppy coming across more strongly. She is very likeable, you feel her tipsy turvy emotions throughout the book which feels authentic, real and relatable. Their relationship comes across well with all the accompanying ups and downs of a genuine friendship, they’re flawed as people are. I really like the premise which is heartwarming in that it’s about finding your emotional and actual home. The dialogue is good, I like the banter between them and there is good use of humour. Since we are Covid home bound one of the best aspects is holidaying vicariously with Poppy and Alex and them walking along the Golden Gate Bridge brought back some wonderful holiday memories for which I’m really grateful! I like the ending, it feels right and we get there eventually.

However, this is a slow burner friends to lovers situation and it takes a while to immerse yourself in. Although you can visualise Poppy very easily it’s a less clear picture with Alex who isn’t as well developed. Is it just me, or is he a tiny bit on the dull side? The estrangement between their friendship which is sort of dangled in front of you in a tantalising way is a bit of a let down and doesn’t feel like much of a big deal. The zipping backwards and forwards in time gets a bit wearing and I just wanted to get in with the ‘Now’!

Overall, although I didn’t connect as well as to Beach Read it’s still an enjoyable book which takes you out of yourself and transports you to some lovely places for a while.

Emily Henry has done it again folks, and if you thought Beach Read was good, just wait until you get your hands on this one. People We Meet on Vacation is the Love Rosie inspired romance of my dreams; one that tore at my heartstrings while simultaneously making me crave a vacation getaway. Where do I even begin with a book that made me laugh, cry, swear, and feel giddy, all in under a few hours. This book really is the whole package. What with its effortless humor emblematic of the romantic comedy, and its mutual pining that made me want to bash my head into the wall on more than one occasion. There really isn't anything more I could possibly want with this. The witty banter and grumpy/sunshine dynamic being enough to satisfy just about any reader. Most of this story takes place a little over a ten year time period, with chapters alternating between past and present timelines. A stylistic choice that certainly made for some excellent angst and character development. In fact, the entire focus on these significant moments through the lens of the varying vacation destinations was so interesting to me. The author utilized it in such a way as to make a commentary on the unknowability of the future and the struggle for human connection. The idea that you don't have to search the entire end of the earth to find either being central to the book's message. It’s clear that Emily Henry has perfected the romantic comedy, as she once again showcases her talent for writing romance that imparts something onto its readers. This is absolutely one of those books that I wish I could read all over again for the first time. A feeling that only grew stronger with every passing page. While I may not be able to plan a vacation getaway at the moment, I can safely say that this is shaping up to be one of the best romances of 2021. Look out world.

Alex and Poppy are best friends who couldn’t be more different and regardless of where they are in their lives each summer has cemented time together with their annual summer trip or at least it had because after an incident on one said trip, Poppy and Alex haven’t spoken in two years. When Poppy attempts to consider the last time in her life she was truly happy all she can think of is the time she spent with Alex and proposes a trip to remind Alex and herself how good their friendship is, a trip which is plagued with plenty of Vacation mishaps and reliving of Vacations past, allowing them to realise what it is they really mean to each other.

This book is wonderful. Beach Read was one of my favourite reads of 2020 and I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this one. Also feel blessed to be reading this in January because it’s currently summer this is a book to be reading by the beach and in the sun.

Emily Henry has such an amazing sense of humour I don’t know if it's just that it's exactly what I find funny or that it's written super well and effortlessly, but I always end up laughing out loud. I truly believe she mas mastered the art of the rom-com. This book is the perfect blend of romance and witty banter with just the right amount of emotional depth.

This book is written so incredibly well. The writing itself had me pausing after reading certain passages as I was left thinking how incredibly written it was. The structure of this was very unique flashing between vacations past and present to convey a holistic view of how Poppy and Alex came to be who they are and where they’re at in their relationship. And the characters are conceived so well not just Poppy and Alex who are both so different but equally complex and fleshed out but all the side characters that are met along the way are so uniquely well developed.

Poppy and Alex could not be more different which is largely their obstacle to face but their differences aren’t a detriment to their relationship but rather a marker of the lengths they go to prove their love to one another which looks different in each other eyes.

The story itself depicts a lot of travelling (which is certainly something to be missed in 2021) and presents it as not necessarily the intricacies of new places but about the notion of that experiencing something new brings us new people and new connections.

This book is about not wanting to be alone and how you do not always have to travel far and wide to find the people you connect with. How even when you feel like you don’t belong anywhere there are people in life who are such innate parts of ourselves that even if we’ve overlooked it they’re apart of where we belong rather than a particular place.

This book takes you on Poppy and Alex’s surprisingly emotional ride which spans twelve years and a whole lot of love. It's both a deliciously fun time with a lot of depth that has you thinking about it a while after. I adored everything about this book. ...more

I knew Emily Henry had written something special when I came across Beach Read almost a year ago. It then turned out to be for so many one of the best romances of 2020. I can now say that You and Me on Vacation (Or People Your Meet on Vacation -US Title) will probably have the same success. This is the ultimate friends to lovers romance. But, true to her style it's a lot more than that. There's something special about her writing and how her characters feel so Wow. I'm so in love with this book.
I knew Emily Henry had written something special when I came across Beach Read almost a year ago. It then turned out to be for so many one of the best romances of 2020. I can now say that You and Me on Vacation (Or People Your Meet on Vacation -US Title) will probably have the same success. This is the ultimate friends to lovers romance. But, true to her style it's a lot more than that. There's something special about her writing and how her characters feel so real.

Poppy and Alex met during orientation week and are complete opposites. Based on their first conversation they would never think a friendship could bloom between them. But, when Poppy needs a ride home to her hometown and Alex happens to be her ride they discover that all their differences can actually be a very good thing. With each other, they can be who they truly are, weird and complicated, and not really care what the other one thinks.

As their friendship grows, they make a pact to spend all Summer Vacations together. Poppy has a travel blog and is getting big on social media writing about all sorts of adventures. As the years go by things get more intense and complicated between them, and eventually, Poppy is hired to write for a fancy travel magazine, elevating their budget-friendly trips to five-star hotel extravaganzas. Things are changing, but moving on from friendship to romance can be the scariest one of all.

Multiple locations serve as the backdrop for their trips, and the clever writing jumps from their previous summers while intercalating with the current timeline. Present day Poppy and Alex are summering in Palm Springs and the writing is so immersive you can practically feel the arid air and see the neon pink flamingos popping from the page.

This is one of those books that I'll keep going back to when I need something beautiful and romantic to read. Sharing the same space as some of my other favorite romances like The Hating Game and Red, White, & Royal Blue.

It's lighter than Beach Read in many ways, but still so interesting and heartwarming. I can't recommend it enough.

Ps: there's a lovely little Easter Egg that shows You and Me on Vacation and Beach Read are part of the same universe and I stan that.

It's phenomenally written, I loved the main characters (both as a couple and individually), and tagging along on Poppy and Alex's vacations was almost as good as a real vacation. Friends-to-lovers is not often a trope I enjoy as I usually find it unrealistic that feelings and attraction suddenly develop between two people who've known each other for so long. And then Emily Henry goes and proves me wrong! Alex and Poppy are MADE for each other, but there is some serious denial at work, keeping them apart for years and years and years.

i don't have many thoughts beyond "i want to be in love"

there's so many good lines filled with raw emotion that i'm overwhelmed thinking about about them. i love that we got to see poppy and alex throughout the years.

very 'when harry met sally' but i actually liked it. it's about the repression and being in love with your best friend!!

Ok... Alex and Poppy. Poppy GAHHH.. I absolutely LOVED her... she made me laugh so much. She has this incredibly wit and sassy personality and it's incredibly perfect to the reserved Alex. I loved Alex just as much in different ways but the banter between the two back and forth is pure genius... really it is.

Okay, I didn’t know Emily Henry (I might have been living in a cave), and I doubted if I still liked rom-coms. After finishing this book, I can wholeheartedly say: YES, yes, yes, I still do!
