Shades of Darkness is book 16 in the Guardians of Eternity series and another enjoyable read. While I like it I didn't love it. I thought Chaaya and Basq were great together but overall I felt like something was missing. Now while it wasn't a favorite I'm very excited that Brigette is next and hopefully she will find redemption.

Chaaya was betrayed and sacrificed by her own mother and has been a prisoner for a long time. She was sacrificed in order to save the world from an awful beast. She finally escapes and is a real handful but I think she deserves a little leeway after all she's been through.

Basq has known for a long time that Chaaya is his mate and has vowed to go wherever she goes even if that place ends up being a different dimension.

Chaaya is more than she seems now and can do things that regular humans canno

Oh I love this series and heartily recommend reading from the beginning if like me you enjoy a paranormal romance.
Chaaya was sacrificed by her Druid mother in order to save the world from a hungry Beast. She has been trapped in a hellish dimension and now finally is free. Chaaya isn't quite as human as she appears as she can quite literally dissolve through walls but this tiny firebrand is determined to live life to the full. It's just too bad that she's surrounded by grumpy, stiff ( no pun int

3.75 stars--SHADES OF DARKNESS is the sixteen full-length instalment in Alexandra Ivy’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY paranormal/fantasy romance series. This is vampire Basq, and Chaaya’s story line. SHADES OF DARKNESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary.

Told from a number of third person perspective following several intersecting paths SHADES OF DARKNESS focuses on Chaaya, a not quit

The 16th book in Guardians of Eternity, Shaded of Darkness is Basq and Chaaya. I enjoyed the overall story and the characters, loved the Levet moments and look forward to reading more.

Shades of Darkness is the 16th volume in the Guardians of Eternity series by Alexandra Ivy. As a series’ fan, of course I’ve read all the previous volumes and reviewed most of them. Considering the numbers of volumes, I’ll only give you the link of the previous one I’ve reviewed, Conquer the Darkness: http

I love this series, and was very excited when I found they were doing another book. When I looked back, I’ve realised I’ve missed a few books, so after this one I need to go back .....
Chaaya was a sacrifice to keep a great evil contained. But now she’s just human, well that’s not quite true, yes she can fight like an Amazon warrior, but she’s more than that. And as we read, we find out more and more.
Basq is a warrior not a babysitter!
But Basq is hiding something, his feelings for Chaaya, at fi

Lively and vivid description, mystery, steamy romance, and humorous, emotional, and intense interactions between the characters make Shades of Darkness an intriguing fantasy/paranormal romance read. Chaaya is sent along with her bodyguard Basq into the hellscape mirror London to recover an escaped prisoner believed associated with the enemy with whom she endured centuries of imprisonment as a sacrifice to protect her people and magic.

A vampire, Basq is the strong, silent, solitary type who prid

Chaaya endured centuries as a sacrifice to save the world from a terrible evil. Now that she is free she is determined to have fun, especially if it means getting under the skin of the silent bodyguard, Basq.

This book was ok for me. I didn’t love Chaaya. She came across as someone who doesn’t care about consequences and lives to cause problems. She got on my nerves quickly and that never really went away. Basq was an interesting vampire. His abilities were very unique but I felt we barely got t

This was my first book by Ms. Ivy. I’ll admit that I like PNR/fantasy romance, but it isn’t my main happy place. I prefer my PNR/fantasy romance to be heavier on the romance than the paranormal part and in this story, that was flipped. The paranormal/fantasy elements were so strong I, at times, wasn’t sure I was reading a romance, but rather an urban fantasy. Which, there’s no hate there. I’ve read and enjoyed some select urban fantasy before so I don’t hate the genre, however when I go into a b ...more

I’m always looking for a new paranormal romance series—now more than ever 🙄—so I was really looking forward to picking up Alexandra Ivy’s Shades of Darkness.

The first book I’ve read in the Guardians of Eternity series, SoD features a troublemaking maybe-ghost heroine named Chaaya who thrives on stirring things up & a starchy, so-called “nice guy” vampire named Basq who’s drawn to her. Even if he hasn’t admitted it.

When Chaaya & Basq take off on a dimension-hopping trip together to track down an

I don't know how Alexandra Ivy keeps managing to find such good sexy heroes who aren't just just well rounded & balanced characters but match perfectly with her heroines in such a way as that you don't mind quite so much that you can't keep him for yourself since you know he's going to be HEA with her. Basq was a little slower warm up but Chaaya's slightly prickly personality steadily poked holes in his outer shell and revealed his personality and depth while he softened the edges of some of her ...more

This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.

I started this series a few books back so don't have full knowledge of all the characters but that is not really important to the storyline but helpful when previous characters are mentioned. Although, there is enough background information revealed that helps!

Chaaya and Basq are kind of an odd couple but when Basq finally admits that she is his mate, wow do the fireworks sizzle between them. But before that happens, thing are kind of on a slow simm

Chaya spent centuries in captivity, a sacrifice to evil to protect her people. Finally free, she's determined to make up for lost time and enjoy her freedom. She spends her days having fun, playing games and generally causing trouble.

Basque has the unenviable task of body guard to Chaya. He prides himself on his unflappable demeanor. Only Chaya is able to break through. Her independent spirit calls to him. When Chaya is called to chase and apprehend an escaped prisoner, one thought to carry the

I admit, I jump in and out of this series, so I'm not the best example of a hardcore reader in the Guardians of Eternity world, but this book was a fun read. The size made it feel more like a novella than a full length novel, but that could just be because the pages flew by!

Chaaya is a trouble maker. Maybe literally? She's free from her prison but can't seem to escape a certain brooding vampire (see what I did there?). Basq is a brooder by nature, but his task of following Chaaya has become some

Interdimensional Manhunt + Romance

After being sacrificed by her mother and having escaped the infamous Beast, Chaaya is done playing by other people's rules. She's powerful, practically immortal, and won't take direction from anyone. But Chaaya's help is needed to find an escaped prisoner, and Basq, a broody vampire, isn't about to let her go alone. The two set off together, traveling through time warps, meeting new creatures, and building enough chemistry to keep the pages turning. Though I wo

I love this series and really you cant go wrong. Like anything some are better than others, but I enjoyed this one. You have weres, imps, vampires, demons, dijin, druids, I mean really, how can you go wrong? I enjoyed Chaaya. Was she responsible? No. You try living in hell for centuries protecting the world and then tell me how you would give a care when finely free, Wouldn't you want to live? Shades of Darkness is the sixteenth book in Alexandra Ivy’s exciting Guardians of Eternity series which features a multitude of paranormal creatures including Vampires, Demons, Fae, Mermaids, Weres, Imps, Djinn and our very favourite Gargoyle, Levet. The title of this story is definitely apt, as the character portrayals are troubled and dangerous; but I had mixed feelings about the overall story as I struggled to warm to Chaaya and her penchant for chaos and her lack of remorse for the consequen ...more

There is not much new that I can say about the sixteenth Guardians of Eternity, Shades of Darkness that I haven’t already said. Alexandra Ivy has kept this long running series interesting with remarkable characters. Often the characters are self-sacrificing for the good of the many which is the case for Chaaya. Now this girl just wants to have fun. I could hear that song playing in the background of my mind as I read. She not only wants it, but she also deserves it too. Basq seems to take all th ...more

Chaaya sacrificed her life and her spirit continued to protect people from evil for hundreds of years. Now, free with a corporal form and unknown powers, she and her unwitting vampire bodyguard, Basq, must once again stop evil from pervading the world.

I had a hard time getting into this book. It was slow and failed to hold by attention. There was little chemistry between Chaaya and Basq, and I felt their romance was somewhat forced. They just didn't seem to mesh together. Also, I felt there wer

You can instantly feel the chemistry between the main characters, Chaaya and Basq. It is hot, hot, hot! And the humor in this book is over the top! I love Alexandra Ivy Romantic Suspense series. I have tried a few of her Supernatural\Paranormal suspense series and found each one is completely different from each other even though its the same author.

3.75 Hearts This is the 16th in the series and by now you would think the stories would be getting old… but nope! This is Alexandra Ivy and that woman can write a book that leaves you wanting more as soon as you close the book.

We now have Chaaya and Basq’s story. I loved the relationship they have. Chaaya is strong but sad. Basq is a diamond in the rough. And somehow they are perfect for each other.

Ivy is easily one of the best in the genre. I have enjoy

I have really mixed feelings about this book which is why this is only getting 3 stars, and that's honestly being a bit generous. The story itself was nice and I enjoyed it, but every time something exciting started to happen you'd suddenly be in another POV of a character somewhere else. It was jarring to go from Chaaya to Troy to Bridgette to Inga to Basq to Levet and so on. There was too much happening with the POV switching and not enough happening with the actual story and because of that, ...more

I was so gleeful when I seen this one since I think I have read all the ones before this. There are just some authors in the paranormal that I have been reading for a minute so when a new one is available it gets snapped up. Slipping into this world again is like entering a old friend. Chaaya is a character that is interesting because you do not come across alot such as her. And to think she has a body guard that cause us readers to salivate especially those silent types lol. I received this book via NetGalley and have agreed to leave an honest opinion,

I am a fan of the author and have read many of her "Darkness" series and loved them but this one I just could not wrap my head around, I just didn't really care for the story and I wanted more...

I wanted to see more of Chaaya and Basq's developing relationship for sure. Anytime you have an alpha male, and a vampire at that, it is always interesting to see how they handle a new relationship.

This was an entertaining, well-written book. Chaaya revels in spreading mayhem wherever she goes, but then she has to go after someone who may be under the influence of the evil being who imprisoned Chaaya for years. There was humor, action, snark and heat. Basq refuses to let her go alone. Sparks of all kinds fly between them. The book was fast-paced and impossible to put down.
