Ruthless Women is celebrity agent and author Melanie Blake's highly-anticipated second novel and an exposé of life in soap, that’s all too close to the truth. Inspired by real experiences and real people in a backstabbing and ever-bitchy part of the entertainment industry that Blake knows all too well, this is a drama-filled, outrageously fun read that will whisk you away from reality into a world of cutthroat dealings, fake smiles and enemies masquerading as friends. It goes behind the scenes o ...more

Oh the drama! It’s not just Falcon Bay thats a drama in this story, so are the Iives of the people who create and bring the show to life. Their little world used to be defined by great collaborative professional and loving personal relationships but, the drama kicks into overdrive when there is a change in network ownership and it seems like their passionate and wonderful world is about to be taken away from them. Thank goodness these ladies are there to support each other in you guessed it…a dr ...more

It’s been quite a while since I was glued to the pages of a book in quite the way I was to Ruthless Women. In fact, I can go back to the 1980s, when I was a teenager and my friends and I were passing around copies of Judith Krantz, Jackie Collins and Shirley Conran novels in the Sixth Form common room with the page corners turned down at the really juicy bits. (Do you remember THAT scene in Lace? We were agog!) Those books, filled with strong, glamorous and bitchy women, ruthless men and setting ...more

Wow.. utterly speechless... adrenaline pumping... couldn't put this down... what an ending... more please!

Well those are a few of my initial thoughts just minutes after finishing this spectacular book. I knew from The Thunder Girls that Melanie Blake was clearly a good author, but had been a bit worried whether that was a one off or not, rest assured it wasn.t this was even better.

My only regret with this book was that I wasn't reading it somewhere hot and exotic as it epitomises everything I

Falcon Bay is the doyenne of television drama. For thirty-nine years this ‘soap’ has been broadcast to a global audience, whose love for the characters is matched only by the cast and crew’s love for their jobs. But their once perky ratings are sagging somewhat, and its future now lies in the hands of a steely, spike-heeled, new network owner. Almost overnight, long-standing friendships are torn apart, insecurities are weaponised, and rivalries worthy of any tv drama become the new norm, both on ...more

Serial drama, Falcon Bay was once riding high in the TV ratings with its main stars regularly receiving prestigious awards but times have changed and a succession of new owners have seen the show plunge dramatically in the global ratings. With a new network owner, Falcon Bay, is once again the centre of controversy, and with a special anniversary looming the hunt is on for an explosive story line which will fire the imagination of the viewing public.

The cut-throat world of television is laid bar

Wow.... What an epic tale of power, sex, money, friendship and strength. Focused on the main people behind a world renowned soap opera the characters have as much glamour, sexiness, bitchiness and secrecy as the show itself. Imagine Dallas with the power suits and glamorous women, meets Sunset beach with it’s crazy storylines. The drama on screen is matched, and then some, by the impressive talent who create it. A group of ambitious women head the team. A powerhouse of strong, well respected, be ...more

It has been an extremely long time since I last read a book that kept me so engrossed and mesmerized that I read the entire story in one sitting. I was impressed with Melanie Blake's premise on centering the whole story around women of different ages and portraying them as powerful women who are their own rescuers and challenge the norms laid out for women by the society and men surrounding them.

I was getting very excited to read this but unfortunately my expectations were not met. I read the first 100 pages and decided maybe Im not the preferred audience for this book due to my age (im 27 y o), as i couldn't relate to any of the characters. A very bloated introduction that goes on way too long, with little to nothing happening in the first part. I was expecting a thriller, but the thrills are kept to a minimum. Just felt like a waste of my time really

Ruthless Women draws you in to the deceptively gorgeous and idyllic world of Falcon Bay from the opening paragraph. Introducing you to a cast of strong and fierce women, who love their jobs and will do whatever it takes to protect the show they love.

The Men are equally strong willed, slightly chauvinistic in some cases but they to love the show they work on and the power and prestige they get from working on it.

Scheming, shenanigans and sex are the order of the day as manipulation in front of, and behind the camera, is needed to boost the flagging ratings of what was once a watercooler tv show.

The women around whom the story is constructed all have very different parts to play, from new mum Amanda, who was demoted in favour of her husband whilst on maternity leave, to casting agent Helen , who was responsible for the hiring of ingenue Farah, and a lifelong friendship with Falcon Bay’s grande dame, Cath

„Falcon Bay“, a soap opera, has been shown on TVs all over the world for 40 years now, winning all prestigious awards possible. However, times are changing, the ratings are dropping dramatically and the competition doesn’t sleep. The succession of new owners doesn’t seem to be able to bring the old glamour and high ratings back but it should change now, when the production is passed in the hands of an American business woman, Madeline Kane. So it’s because of this news, but also because the 40t ...more

Welcome to Falcon Bay!

Before we start, I need to set the scene a bit. Falcon Bay is a TV spectacular in the old style - there is nothing of the grey and tawdry about this baby. Instead we are talking the full on glamour and pzazz of the 80s style soap opera... sorry, continuing drama... here - the wonderful, over-the-top Dallas and Dynasty days, with big characters and salacious storylines.

Falcon Bay television drama needs a boost!

I have to be completely honest and say that initially I wasn’t sure if I was going to enjoy Ruthless Women because I don’t watch television soap operas (or continuing dramas as I now understand they are called) and it seemed to take a while for me to work out exactly who was who and what their relationships were. I definitely needed the list of players and the beginning – and ‘players’ is definitely the right term in all its meanings for many of them! Wh

Best-selling author Melanie Blake lifts the lid on the less than squeaky clean world of soap operas with the book everyone is going to be talking about in 2021: Ruthless Women.

Millions of people all around the world were hooked on Falcon Bay. The steamy soap set off the coast of Jersey had captivated audiences all around the world with its outrageous plots, larger than life characters and picturesque locations, but the shine has worn off this jewel in the network’s crown. I loved Thunder Girls and when I was invited to the tour by Bei at Midas PR for this exciting book. Thank you to Head of Zeus for my copy of the book in return for a fair and honest review.

This book took me right back to my teenage days when a perfect weekend was spent with the latest Jackie Collins book. Set in a TV production company C. I. TV which produces the soap Falcon Bay that has been running for over 40 years. At the lead of Falcon Bay today is Alpha male Jake Monroe, he is typical exam

Thank you Harper Collins for sending us a copy to read and review.
Where Jackie Collins and Rebecca Chance left off, go no further, we have a new reigning Queen Melanie Blake.
Falcon Bay is the worlds most watched soap for nearly forty years.
From it’s over the top storyline’s and filmed on a secluded island, what goes on when the cameras stop recording is so much more scandalous than what’s on the screen.
But the ratings are low and it’s time to bring in new blood and revamp the series.

OK, this one isn't quite within my usual genres, but I'll admit I was intrigued! A sexy, shocking, glamorous, 'unputdownable', revenge-filled thriller? I totally fell for the blurb! Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

The novel is set in a beautiful location just off the coast of Jersey where a soap opera, 'Falcon's Bay', is filmed. A long-term fixture of the TV schedules, 'Falcon's Bay' has taken a tumble in the ratings a

Absolutely, utterly compelling and unputdownable! If I'd had the luxury, I would've downed this rather big book on a single day (I made the mistake of sitting down with it in the late afternoon, which meant I was just at 66% when it was time to go to bed, and I had to wait for the next day to finish it)
It's been a while since I found a story as riveting as this one. The pages just flew, the words just strung together, the story just rolled - can I say it's like binge-reading? Unputdownable, for

Scandalous, sexy thrillers inspired by real experiences and personalities are always addictive. Ruthless Women's vibrant characters and vivid scenarios make guessing the inspiration behind them a must. The abuse of authority and prejudice are relatable, and the intelligent way the women fight against them believable. The female characters are flawed but easy to empathise. Hidden agendas and twists make this an intriguing read.

As you read Ruthless Women, you know it could only have been written by someone who has worked in the media business it portrays, with inside knowledge of what makes this world tick. After the early chapters which establish the main characters, I found that the pace increased and it turned into quite a page turner. There is quite a cast of characters, all larger than life and with their own agendas. There is a cast list at the beginning, but I didn't need to refer to it. Each character seemed ev ...more

At the beginning, this book was good. Then it was really, really good. Then it was just utterly amazing and a fantastic reading experience.

The first 250 pages definitely hit the 4-star mark – it had a few small plot twists which kept you engaged and lots of bitchiness and dark humour, which just meant I couldn’t put it down. I’m talking ‘lunch burning’ type of vibe. And then blimey, do things get intense in the second half.

It’s an easy read which would be best read on a beach with a cocktail. It’s fluff, fashion and a an attempt at a thriller but like most ‘situational dramas’ it’s not going to stimulate your brain or leave you altered in anyway, and yet that is the beauty of the novel, it is pure fantastical escapism.

N.b. - the sex scenes were hyped up around this novel, in fact it has been called the novel 50 shades wished it was. It does have sex in it- but its not an erotic novel- and were they well written?

I definitely went through an emotional rollercoaster with this book but I was feeling all the emotions the characters were going through. Wow! “Ruthless Women” is another version of the 80’s tv soaps, similar to Dallas and Dynasty.
The woman are strong, bitchy and you never really know who to trust. If my friends behaved like they did - I wouldn’t need enemies!
The men on the other hand were weak, simpering and pretty pathetic species!!
I took a while to get into the book as it slowly involves the reader into getting to know the characters, but once you do.... BAM!!
This would make a great TV movie and I look forward to reading more
