I was looking for a fresh devotional resource for Advent this year, and was pleased by this new resource by Brian Simmons. Brian is leader of a group who have created a new translation of the Bible called the Passion Translation. You can read about that project online. As with all translations, there are mountaintops and pitsfalls.

Yet as a daily resource to walk through the Advent period of waiting and expectation I would commend this book. Based in the 2 gospel accounts (mostly Luke) and Psalms, Simmons walks us through the various challenges and blessings of this unique period as we await the celebration of Christ's birth as well as his coming again (Adventus). Easy to use, and appropriate length for a daily devotional.

This was done in a very interesting manner. No Advent devotional is complete without the story of Jesus's birth and this one does deliver. However, I believe that it focuses more on Zechariah's side of the story. It was a refreshing view and very well done. Definitely worth a study during future Advent seasons.

Good daily reading and prayer during the Advent season .

A wonderful devotional from the Passion translation team. This is a great reminder of the good news of the coming Messiah that was proclaimed by the prophets throughout the Old Testament.
