1915, Curlew, Alberta Canada. 12 year old Sam and his family move from their farm in Iowa to the Canadian frontier. At first, Sam misses Iowa until his father gets him a horse, Prince, to take him to and from school. When winter ocmes, Sam's father says they must let Prince go to survive with the wild horses since they don't have enough food for him. Sam can't wait for spring and wonders will Prince come back or will he stay with the herd?

Great read! No idea why there is a train and not a horse on the cover. Would appeal to readers who enjoyed the Little House books or books about horses.
