This is the fifth book in the 'Dark Love' Series, I wanted to love it but it definitely is my least favorite book in the series. I read books 1-4 in less than a week, I couldn't put this series down until I got to this series. I haven't enjoyed this book much, I should say I am about 70% done with the novel on Kindle Unlimited. I do plan on finishing the book because I want to read book 6 in this series and the following 'Forbidden Love' series by this author.
I had to give this book 2/5 stars in comparison to the 4-5/5 stars I have rated the previous 4 books. The book introduces a whole new character Noah Mason, who we only ever read about in one fleeting paragraph in the first book, he is Charlie's cousin who was never named in 'Chasing Love'. Suddenly he has his own book when we know nothing about him.
Unlike the previous 4 books, Charlie & Lex's story was followed up by Adriana (Lex's Sister & Charlie's childhood best friend) & Julian's (Charlie's ex-fiance & Lex's nemesis) love story. Noah comes out of the left field, we don't know him at all plus Adriana or Julian are barely present, Nikki and Rocky are maybe mentioned once and Charlie and Lex are barely in the book, maybe 10% of the novel besides the fact Noah is staying in his cousin's house.
Kate, Charlie's friend, and Lex's ex-assistant is set up to be Noah's best friend/possible love interest but that is cut short. In reality, the only reason I decided to try and finish this book is that Kate and Noah's love story is in book 6, not this one and I really enjoy Kate as a character. Her POV chapters get me to keep reading.
I had to pause at 58% completed with this book, take a break, and read all 3 'Sleet Series' novels by S.J. Tilly which I finished in 5 days. If that doesn't tell you how much I did not enjoy this book, I don't know what will.
Noah, a man whore, and Morgan, the assistant/manager, and sister to Noah's celebrity crush are the main two characters but it is obvious they don't belong together. They are toxic, they only are together because they enjoy sleeping together, nothing more, they are not 'in love' they're infatuated with how good the sex is. Morgan is unlikable as a character plus she's hiding a child from Noah and an ex-husband. Noah is pretty insufferable;e most of the book unless he's around Kate, he is kind of using Lex's connections to get what he wants, including a high paying job and hotel rooms to screw Morgan in.
All in all, I get why the author chose to go this route because all her books in this series are duets so each couple has two books but overall, I don't think this is the best writing choice. Hell, Kate's heartbreak 'ex' has been introduced and talked about in previous books, Domonic, Eric's older aloof brother.
Overall, I look forward to book six to see Kate's happily ever after.
