This was a very well written book. It started fairly tame and easy-going. But the more I read the deeper my sense of dread became.

It dealt with so many dark issues and the further in you get the more horrified you become.
If any of the following upset you then I suggest you don’t read this book: Child abuse, infidelety, non-consent, domestic abuse.

Now, for the rest of us, lets begin, lol.

NATALIE
This woman has lead such a sheltered life that she truly is a shadow of a person.
She’s 26 years old, married to a man at least 15 years older than her and has been since she was 18. She has no friends at all and was homeschooled most of her life.

Her mother was insanely strict and controlling all of her (and her 3 sisters’) life.
And it was all about appearances, weight, beauty and striving for perfection.
Also training her to become the ‘perfect wife’ for any future husband.

It was an immense amount of pressure to put on a wee lass, almost straight from the cradle and to be honest the whole thing just pissed me off royally.
I hate this mother...like blood boiling hate.

Natalie is attacked one day and knocked unconscious and ever since that day she’s having huge gaps in her memory. She can barely remember her childhood and has no idea how she met her husband but doesn’t want to say anything in case they think she’s crazy.

Every now and then though she has these waking dreams with a completely different scene playing out from the little she does remember about her life.
She’s the kind of woman who has never, not even once, disagreed or spoken out of turn with her mother or husband.
They both control her life with an iron fist and I have to be honest...it got to me.
I was angry! I wanted to jump into the pages and shake her. Scream at her to answer back, stand up for herself!

ALEXEI
I liked him. Right from the start he was a much more believable character than a lot of these alpha males.
He’s all kinds of dark and twisted and knows that Natalie is way too innocent for a man with his particular desires and lifestyle but he just can’t leave her be.
He’s a killer without any conscience and a heart of stone...until her.

“I’ve wanted to fuck you from the moment I laid eyes on you, little bird. Ready to go again?”Shyly, she admits what I already know. “I’m not sure. I’ve never done that before, and I’ve definitely never done two types of sex in one day.”Jesus fucking Christ when this woman says things like that I just want to wreck her. I want to fuck her so well that she can’t walk after I’m done and that jackass of a husband will know another man has finally screwed his wife the way she deserves.
There is an amazing mystery storyline here as well and as Alexei starts looking into her life and that of her husband no one is prepared for the discoveries.

Just...wow. (yup, I’m angry all over again, lol)

SEX SCENES
Now, this book was more about the emotions and experiences they shared together than the actual sex. And being the utterly sex-crazed person I am, I found that I wanted more in-depth sex scenes with more detail and nasty dirty content. I need all the details, damn it! (don’t even pretend you are any different! I know you!)

Holy fuck. She’s never done this before. When she tilts her head back to look up at me, I can’t imagine her ever looking more beautiful than at this moment when her mouth is mere inches from my cock. Her eyes wide and more innocent than I think I can deal with, she says, “I asked Pilar how to do this at the country club the other day. She said to make sure I watch my teeth, unless you’re a man who likes teeth. Are you a man who likes to feel teeth during it?” Jesus, I might come just from the feel of her hand lightly holding my cock and her asking me that question. No woman I’ve been with in my entire life has ever asked me that. “No, but don’t worry. It won’t matter.” Uncertainty clouds her expression. “No?” Reaching down, I caress her cheek as I shake my head. “Trust me. No.” I can barely stand the anticipation as I wait for her take me into her mouth, but unlike with other women, I don’t grab her head and push her down on my cock. I don’t want to frighten her. But fuck, it’s like asking a tiger to change his goddamned stripes. The first touch of her mouth sends a rush of need through me that feels like a freight train tearing through my veins. She moves tentatively, wrapping her lips around the head so softly, and all I want to do is ram my cock all the way to the back of her throat. Her hand grips the base, but even that’s far too fucking light. Slowly, her mouth slides down my shaft a few inches, and then she backs off. This is dangerous for her because another couple seconds of this and I’m going to be fucking her face. I’m already struggling to stop my hips from thrusting forward to bury every last inch inside her. I stuff my hand into her hair and tighten my hold. She whimpers against my cock, only making things worse. If I can control myself long enough to just get her at a good pace, I won’t scare the hell out of her on her first blowjob. “Tighten your hand, little bird,” I groan out as I gently push her head down just a little further. She does as I order, and I add, “Now move up and down just as tight.” Obedient as she naturally always is, Natalie begins to jerk me off while my hand on her head eases her mouth down to meet her hand. She’s naïve as to how to really do this, but it doesn’t matter.

Final thoughts on THE SINS DUET by Abbi Cook
This is an intensely passionate and heartbreaking story that kinda makes you feel like you wanna jump into the book, shake the heroine and deal with these assholes yourself.
It really was well written. The only issue I had with it was that it took such a long time to get through her sadness and weakness to the action. I spent a lot of time annoyed with her for not at least trying to stand up to people but with the way she was raised you can’t be surprised by it.

You can’t help who you fall in love with!

The Sins Duet is 2 books Covet and  Corrupt.  This story in its entirety is so different to anything I have read for a while, and I loved it.

Natalie is the young wife of Adam, they lead a relatively quiet suburban life.   Adam runs his own business and Natalie stays at home.  Natalie's life revolves around her mother, sisters and acquaintances and being the trophy wife.   On the surface everything seems normal ish.     Or is it!!

As the story developed, I took a dislike to Adam  and found Natalie naïve, this I think is because she is so much younger and led a sheltered life.

This is until Natalie has a flat tyre,is rescued by a stranger and the cracks begin to show and she then starts to question everything.

Alexei, the stranger who is dark and dangerous, he completely took me my surprise he is a complex character who know what he wants and who,  and makes no apologies for taking it.  I might have developed a bit of a crush on this one!

Abbi tells a thrilling story which grips you until you have finished the last page.  It has everything you could want, suspense, romance, heat and chemistry and comes with an explosive ending and a chilling plot.

At times it raised more questions for me than it answers, you think you have an inkling of where this story is going and then you don’t.  The way it has been written is utterly brilliant.   I felt hurt, angry and happy for Natalie, but also frustrated and wanted her to open her eyes and see the lies and deception.

The unusual love story in all of this, just makes you realise you have no control over who you fall in love with. With the right person, you take the happiness and the heartache together and help each other through everything life throws at us.

“I stayed away from you because I can’t help what I feel. Why won’t you just leave me be?” she asks, hanging her head as all her anger fades away. The answer to that question never changes, even though I think she wishes it would. Tilting her head back, I smile at the gentleness I see in her eyes now. “Because you’re inside me. I can’t leave you be. I love you, little bird. And whether you want to admit it or not, I’m inside you too.”

This book was so disappointing, it had so much potential and it didn't hit the mark at all. The story fell flat. The whole thing was rudundnt and full of fluff. How many times can you repeat the same thing over and over. This story could have been told in half the time. For two books there was never any real progression in the plot.

Natalie was described as sweet and naive but in reality she was dumber then a box of rocks. She was supposed to be well educated but she couldn't even see the obvious, even when it smacked her right in the face...literally. She never learned from her mistakes, had no backbone, she was weak. Merely a pawn in everyone's game. She never even fought for what she wanted, I don't think she even fought to be with Alexei.

Alexei, there was not enough of him in this book. Maybe that is part of the problem. For being so vicious and terrifying we never even actually saw his dark side. He liked Natalie because she was "sweet, naive, and acted virginal." I don't know how he could want to be with a woman who literally put herself in the DUMBEST situations, even knowing the consequences.

And then there were a number of characters who just fell off the face of the earth, what ever happened to Samson and Roman. They just suddenly were never around or talked about again.

* First time reading author

The sins Duet is a five star all the way around. The twist and turns, the give and take with Natalie and Alexei is off the charts and the sinister way that the bad guys are written is so well done you are questioning yourself if you have the right bad guys. Natalie is a complex character that you just can not put your finger on and she is the one you have to watch. Is she good or bad? I highly enjoyed Alexei and everything he brings to the table. All he wants to do is protect Natalie, but she is determined to protect herself and find out what is going on with her life.

I was so enthralled with this book, it took me three nights to finish it (between life and school) that I would stay up extra late to try to get through it. I am officially a fan of Abbi Cook! I hope to read more like this book from her.

Natalie has the perfect life, a great husband and a family to love her. Except her husband paid someone to kill her. That someone, Alexei, ends up falling for her instead. Natalies whole life unravels as Alexei falls deeper in love with her and she doesn’t know who to trust.
Opinion
You are going to want to read this book. I was completely daunted at first when Kindle told me it was going to take ten hours to read. Let me tell you though, I was on the edge of my seat for most of those hours. There are so many well written subplots in this story that my mind kept spinning trying to figure them out. There were multiple times I wanted to scream at one character or another. This book will frustrate you, in a good way. You will enjoy this book from start to finish.
Many thanks to Bare Naked Words for providing me with an ARC of this book.

I’ve added some discussion questions (bookmark style) on my blog. Feel free to check them out.

Ok, I didn't hate it.

But I kinda hated it.

I went into it blind, I just knew it was 'dark romance' and that I saw blurbs about it on TikTok, but here goes.... my thoughts on the whole thing:

Alexei is way more interesting a read than Natalie. I liked his POV chapters better. I found her a weak victim overall and hard to root for, especially when she mindlessly walked into life threatening situations, even after being warned. The repetition of the same sentences over and over became tiresome (Alexei is a killer, Adam is a good man, I'm not crazy, etc.) we know this, it's been mentioned five times already... oy vey.
The narcissistic psychosis of Elizabeth is commendable, I found it believable. The story with the cult behaviors was very interesting, and helped deepen the plot, but there were loose strings that didn't tie up satisfactorily. why is Alexei's half brother mentioned at all, he's dead weight? Why was tess in the story when she's never in the story? why did the first hit on her head start up the memories of the grooming, it seems weak for a plot point, how did Claire and Tess husbands die? did Alexei kill them for Elizabeth? I was fuzzy on that point.
the transition from Natalie being beat, choked and abused by Adam is horrible but she never really had any hesitancy when Alexei did it? even choking her over the bruises her husband gave her? I found that ridiculous. a battered woman wouldn't just forget her abuse and let her boyfriend fuck her right after, I don't know I had to suspend disbelief a lot with these books.
Otherwise the smutty scenes with Alexei are excellent, the sex is well described, it's hot as hell. His POV chapters are clear, concise, and fascinating. the first one is perfectly chilling, and sets the tone excellently. Natalie's are more muddied, which makes sense because of the years of gaslighting, abuse, and drugs, but the round about way she goes to try to get to the point became frustrating, and all I wanted was to get to the climax (pun intended) when the truth about her family was brought to light, but even that was a little disappointing. Natalie's story was perfect, did not see Adam being the father of the baby (but really, he did it just to prove he could? why not play up his pedophilia tendencies like Natalie finds kiddie porn on his phone or lap top or something... maybe that's too much for some people, or its mentioned he doesn't find her attractive anymore because she's "too old" or something equally as disgusting. not like we needed more reasons to hate him, let's be honest.
The corruption kink works, even if Natalie is naive to the point of stupidity, and it would have been more satisfying if Alexei had a little more personal character growth or broadening. not a redemption arc or anything, let's keep the bad boy bad, but he loves Natalie just because she's hot and small? that kind of sucks.
His protectiveness was believable for the most part but the chapters with his predatory characteristics were much better.
All in all I'd say worth the ten dollars I paid, but if I knew how repetitive and red herring it would be, I would probably have not bought it.

This duet was different. I went in pretty blind. I had seen an Instagram ad for the first book in the duet and went to check it out.

Based on the Instagram ad and the blurb I think I was expecting something a little different. I really love dark romance so the potential ways this could have gone would probably be more my speed.

The beginning is pretty slow to start, the sexy times aren’t fade to black but the chemistry between them during the sexy times felt lacking. I’m pretty sure this is a newer author so I think as she writes more the love scenes will improve.

The first sexy times happens around 40% in the duet so that would have near the very end of the first book. I’m not a huge fan of slow burns. This one struggled a bit with tension, instead of building anticipation it felt too drug out.

Safety squad note: hero gets an on page blow job from an ex-girlfriend who also happened to be his former stepmother while trying not to think of heroine. It’s obviously after they’ve met but aren’t technically together yet. This wasn’t cheating to me but I know some people don’t agree.

This book isn’t really safe overall though. The heroine is married and her husband hired the H to kill her but alas romance and affairs ensue. Husband is also cheating on her with another woman and later finds out he impregnated a different woman. So lots of cheating if that is a trigger for you. Honestly I wish she’d given in earlier in the book but that just me.

I downloaded another set of books from her, a trilogy I think. I think they are supposed to be captive romances which are one of my favorite tropes. I was hoping I’d like this more so I’ve lost a bit of the wind in my sails but I think I will read them.

I think there is a lot of potential here so I look forward to reading more books from this author.

"Love is an emotion, like hatred and rage. It ebbs and flows, taking with it trust and kindness when it disappears. And when it's all gone, that's when the smiles fade away."

My God has Abbi stepped it up with this duet! It was just phenomenal!

Natalie is innocent and sweet, but not in the annoying way some innocent heroines can be, she's just so damn loveable. She's seen as weak by her husband but everything she goes through shows how strong she actually is inside! And more fool her dumbass husband!

"Your husband doesn't know how to take care of things he should cherish"

Alexei... My God he's so. Damn. Hot!!! He knows what he wants and he takes it! That is what we love about our alphaholes! He's ruthless, he's a killing machine and he's good at it, but he melts for Natalie and I just couldn't get enough of them! And don't even get me started on those throat holds 🥵🥵

"He's power and control, and he wields it all so effortlessly over me"

Abbi feeds you breadcrumbs throughout this duet, and everytime you piece them together like a jigsaw puzzle and think you know what's going on BAM there's another plot twist thrown in there!

Don't let the size of this put you off, I mean not only is it actually TWO books, but it's NO WAY over written, in fact I could have kept reading this story for another 500 pages it was just that good! Although I now have no fingernails left from the constant biting 🤣

This was just everything, I lost myself in this book, I felt what the characters were feeling and I felt like I knew them inside out by the end of it. So, you better put your seatbelt on as you're in for one hell of a journey! Thank you Abbi for another amazing experience 🖤

The Sins Duet is an incredibly great read. I couldn't stop reading once I started until it was done. The story Abbi Cook tells in this duet is gutwrenchingly beautiful and so tragic it will rip your heart out. She tears you completely down and then builds you all the way back up by the end. I've experienced every emotion there is while reading these books and have been left utterly wrecked in the best possible way. What an truly amazing journey this has been.

COVET

HOLY COW!!!! This book will ABSOLUTELY make you sit up and take notice. The story of Natalie Tarrigan, Adam Anchoff and Alexei Wolfe is one huge mystery. The suspense is unbelievable and kept me guessing and wondering what was going to happen next with each page I read. And what is Natalie's mother's part in all of this mess. I was on the edge of my seat the entire way through this book, I couldn't put it down! I can't wait to see what Corrupt brings.

CORRUPT

Talk about a climactic ending! Corrupt is every bit as exciting and suspenseful as Covet and absolutely kept me completely enthralled until the very end. My goodness at the things Natalie and her sisters have lived through. That mother is nothing but pure evil and deserves so, so much worse than what she got. In the midst of all of the chaos and tragedy in Natalie's life one person has been a constant for her. The one person that hasn't let her down or left her. Her beautiful Alexei. Their journey is one struggle after another. It seems that no sooner do they get one thing taken care of there's another coming into play. One things for sure, they work hard to endure and nothing will stop them from being together.

Natalie was way too sheltered as she grew up, but what can you expect when you have a crazy evil strict mother like she had? She was only raised to become a trophy wife, and trophy wife she became to a man quite a few years older than her. And it may seem idyllic, but there's so much more going on under the surface. Something happens to Natalie which messes with her memory, but no one knows because she doesn't want to be considered crazy. Enter Alexei, a dark man who comes into her life by design?! Or just a random meeting...yeah I'll never tell. Anyway, there's something about Natalie that has him becoming obsessed with her, so let the crazy games begin. I really wished that Natalie wasn't quite so naive because it became rather frustrating to me. There are so many people that I could have taken out on her behalf, which makes the loud f-bomb worthy twists awesome and kept me on the edge of my seat as I found myself enraged more than once. This is one hell of a story, but it does have triggers so keep that in mind! In conclusion, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL YOU BRAVE ENOUGH!

I didn’t know what to expect when I started reading this story. Alexei was a paid assassin and this was a first for him, falling for his target. He didn’t expect to realize how amazing Natalie was and that she wasn’t anything like her husband stated. Natalie was so innocent and so naive that she didn’t know what Alexei was up to when they first met. This story was so different from others I’ve ever read. It was a mixture of not only a love story that was brewing but so many secrets suspense malice at the hands of an unexpected person. How can someone be so cruel to someone they claim to love will leave you shocked. Natalie bond with her sister was very strong and they were basically best friends. It was a lot for both of them when secrets were revealed but they had each other. I loved the ending and it was beautiful to see that they both got the happiness they deserved especially Natalie.

I’ve been waiting for this book forever, and it exceeded expectations!!! Natalie and Aleksei’s story has all the feels. Natalie was raised by a cold woman who demanded perfection of her and her sisters. Aleksei was cold and calculating and very human. Natalie’s husband is just a disgusting excuse for a man and the way the author layed out the story of the characters was suspenseful and so entertaining.

I won’t give away spoilers, you just have to read this duet to see how things play out, I promise you won’t be disappointed. If you like dark romance, this book will wow you.

I received a copy of this book from the Author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

Covet and Corrupt, the Sins Duet, have proven that a killer’s heart can be changed by the perfect innocence of one woman. Alexei was hired to kill her, until she looked at him with those trusting blue eyes. Now, Natalie is is greatest obsession, the only woman he desires to protect beyond measure.
Alexei and Natalie are two fractured beings living in a world of lies, deceit, and facades. With each day they both discover that the truth won’t set them free, only love can. Outstanding build up to a tear your soul apart read!

This set includes the books Covet and Corrupt which make up the Sins duet. This story is so many things, a psychological thriller, a hit-man genre and a dark twisted romance, even though it is all these the story line is well written and easy to follow. You will be gripped by the first page. This is the intense story of Alexei and Natalie, which are very well written, the secondary characters also add to the story as well.

I was given a advance reader copy of these books in exchange for an honest review

The Sins Duet by Abbi Cook is the story of Alexei and Natalie.
Natalie would seem to have the perfect life with her husband Adam and her other family. But things are not what they seem and Natalie starts to see that she doesn't have a perfect or normal life. Alexei isn't a nice person and is used to getting what he wants. So when he meets Natalie there is a instant want for her but he has a secret...but that won't stop him from taken what he wants...Natalie. This was nothing sure of a page turning read. This was my first book by this author but it won't be my last. Loved it.

This is a fabulous read. It is the two books Covet and Corrupt. I thought this was cleverly done in that as I was reading I thought oh this is kinda mild then bam she stepped on the accelerator and pulled me right in.

Although naive I really liked Natalie. Her husband bugged me so much. Alexei took me by surprise.

You really need to read this for yourself. It’s a brilliant read from start to finish.

These characters pulled so many emotions out of me. I certainly won’t forget them in a hurry. This is a well written gripping read that I highly recommend.

This is the first time reading a book about adultery/forbidden romance. For me, romance is there but the plot revolves more around the heroine and the challenges she faced. The plot (mystery) kept me on the edge and made me want to know what happens next.

While most of the questions were answered, I still find that there are some unresolved in this. Why Tess was disconnected from the family (what's her story) , who was the girl that Adam cheated with, the story behind the flashbacks that Natalie had, etc.

Really liked Alexei. Natalie was too wishy washy for my taste . I didn’t think they had very much chemistry for the romance to be believable but I did enjoy the plot , mystery and suspense . Great series

Great book

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the suspense and yet it was open enough to know what was coming. I do wish it would've revealed more about the other woman, but I guess she really wasn't that important. I'm glad the husbands for what was coming to them.

NO SPOILERS!!!!
This is a slow build thriller that kept me flipping pages as fast as possible to get my answers. There are clues on just about every page. Some set me in the right direction others had me questioning my path and even backing up a bit.
When the truth is revealed?
WHOLLY Guacamole!!

This opens by introducing us to Alexei and the darker aspects of his world and it keeps that twisted sense of "What is happening" throughout the read.

The story is told from both perspectives and we go back and forth between timelines some are via a diary while others are nightmares or disjointed memories, maybe?
And that is where the twist lies.

Natalie is happy in her marriage it is all she has known and she can't remember a time when she did not feel content. That is until the night she is the victim of an attempted burglary - then everything she has known begins to slip through her fingers.
Simple memories she no longer remembers. Things begin to change.

Adam ... the doting overprotective husband is always there to calm her, to tend to her emotional needs. But lately, there is something there in his eyes. A darkness Natalie has never seen before.
Is she imagining it? Is she losing her mind?

Alexei is hired to do the dirty deeds that others can not do themselves. To fix problems. He is cold, calculated, and never fails. However this latest "fix" -
Something is off
