"Pilot Ray - The Tale Of A Snail" is a wonderful story written in rhyme about a little snail named Ray who never gave up on his dream to fly. Poor little Ray was teased by his brothers. They told Ray that he was too small and would never amount to anything. They laughed at Ray's dream to fly. Ray didn't listen to his brothers' mean comments and he made a paper airplane out of a wrapper he found. But his dream got away on him. The wind blew before Ray could jump onto the wrapper, so the plane took off without him. It was just like a dream that got away. But just as our failures may make us stronger and come back to help us in the long run, something extra special happens with that failed attempt at flying that Ray had just the day before. What Ray had built out of the wrapper ends up saving his life! There is a little sadness in this story with the brothers being mean and the plane getting away from Ray. Then there is a little bit of a scary and suspenseful part in the book for Ray where readers may think it is the end for poor little Ray. Not to worry because what Ray did was he never gave up. In never giving up, his past failures came back to help him in the end. My kids and I really enjoyed this story. It was a good reminder for all of us to remember that even when we fail, we should not give up. Our failures make us stronger and can help us in the long run. This truly was one of my favorite children's books that I have read. It serves as a great reminder to keep trying even when others do not believe in you. This would be a great book for kids around ages 4-8.
It's been great weather for snails lately and perfect weather to read the newly published 'Pilot Ray - The Tale of a Snail'. A fabulously poetic story by Jana Broeker about a snail who dreams BIG and packed with stunning illustrations from Svitlana Liuta. I loved it. A soaring success!
This book is gorgeous. The illustrations pop and are so well designed. I loved the rhyming in the book as well. The story is very sweet and positive giving readers the message that anything is possible if they dream big.
Usually when I buy books I’ve never heard about, I am skeptical, even though I had high expectations for this one. Honestly, though, this has “knocked it out of the park!” I am so amazed by the wonderful illustrations and how each of the snails are characterized so well. I could see this as a Disney movie. Without even realizing it, the story pulled me along and had me empathetically involved to its quite literally sparing climax. This was a joy to read and share, and I’m glad that it’s now my own! :)
This is a magical picture book with a great message for little people. It teaches readers not to wait to express love for one another. The intertwined message of sibling love and chase after your dreams were well-expressed. The rhyme and illustrations draw in the readers. My girls 6 and 4 love the story, and they reminded each other how much they love each other. We finished off with a hug and a kiss before bedtime. ☺️
“Pilot Ray – The Tale of a Snail” is a cleverly crafted, fun-to-read-aloud rhyming story with an inspiring message - “If there’s a will, there’s a way.” The bright and bold illustrations by Svitlana Liuta add to the enjoyment of this exciting plot-twisted tale. What a great tale about not giving up on your dreams and doing whatever possible to make them happen. The rhymes were adorable and the illustrations were divine. I also love the added element of appreciating your siblings and letting you know you love them. Way to go Ray!
I found the rhyming verses charming and whimsical, accompanied by absolutely brilliant and colorful llustrations. There are a couple of fun surprises and twists which kept me turning the page to see what happened next! A joy for all children, especially any little new pilots itching to dream Big.

Ray wonders what it would be to fly when he thinks about all the things he can't do well, and he soon finds out! This is a story about finding your place, not giving up on your dreams or when things get tough, and loving the family you've got. Lots of great messages in a little adventure tale. The artwork is real cute, too.
A beautiful story of believing in impossible dreams no matter who tells you it's wrong. I also love the idea that you never know just how your dreams will manifest - you've just got to keep believing. Lovely message for young children.
Jana has outdone herself. The message of dreaming big is clear from the start, but what we liked most was the protagonist's heart! A great twist leads to an exciting climax. Bravo! We definitely are reading this one again.
