I got this while reading Light of the Jedi because I thought it was another story in the High Republic era, but it turns out it’s just an abridged version of that novel. I think it was still good, and obviously it’s for kids so it’s toned down a lot, but it was still enjoyable. I wish LotJ had pictures in it like this did because it definitely helped with the characters. Also the stickers included are cool, but the collector in me will not let me actually use them lol

The Great Jedi Rescue is a great illustrated version of the The Light of Jedi! While obviously designed for the kids to get on board with things and understand the High Republic it is exceptionally well put together! The illustrtes are brilliant really giving us more of a look at these characters! The script itself is as sharp as the The High Republic and Light of the Jedi and hits the overall ark of the story of the Light of the Jedi as well! It can also serve as a who's who as well for these n

Today is the day! The High Republic Books have launched! My goal today was to pick up Light of the Jedi at my local Target drive up and my order got canceled twice! They are sold out at all my local shops. It's great to see so much excitement for the series.
I was really happy however to get The Great Jedi Rescue in the mail. The book is young readers adaption of the first view chapters of "Light". It includes the fate of The Republic ship The Legacy Run and the Jedi that come to help the people ...more

Very fun introduction for children into the High Republic era, with wonderful artwork highlighting the new ship, clothing, and lightsaber designs.
Note: if you're planning to read Light of the Jedi, and do not want to know the broad strokes of the first hundred or so pages of that book, do NOT read this book first! Found out the hard way. ...more

If you’re excited for the Light of the Jedi and looking to share the experience with a young reader in your life, you may want to pick up The Great Jedi Rescue. It’s also a great purchase if you’re a visual person, like myself, and want something to help you really immerse yourself in this new era.

Hi Gemmies, I have a new book review for you today. Star Wars: The High Republic The Great Jedi Rescue by Cavan Scott is a fun quick read and a young readers version of the events in the first half of the adult novel "Light of the Jedi".
This book is suitable for ages 5-8, but don’t let that stop you from picking up this gem. It was great to see illustrations of the ships and characters. I liked the aesthetic of the Longbeam. And let’s take a moment to appreciate the wookie Jedi with the best hai ...more

A lovely children's book that retells the events of part 1 of Light of the Jedi by Charles Soule. There is certainly a challenge in adapting this material for young readers, as it is quite dark. However, Cavan Scott's adaptation focuses on the heroism of the Jedi and how their teamwork and hope allowed them to succeed.

I read an ebook of this and it was so cute but now I’m tempted to buy it just for the stickers!
This is a great adaptation of a couple of the plots from the first third of Light of the Jedi — obviously simplified quite a bit for kiddos. Might be worth it for adults to read before deciding if you want to commit time to spending on Light of the Jedi, and especially in this new era, having pictures really helps.

My Padawan really enjoyed this story, especially the Wookie Jedi, Burryaga. Although definitely a story for children, I really appreciated the beautiful artwork to help establish the characters in my mind, something I should have done before reading “Light of the Jedi”.
My Padawan’s only complaint was about the lack of droids. There were, surprisingly, none. While disappointed, he is looking forward to more stories set during the time of the High Republic.

If you're an adult, the best way to read this is concurrently with Light of the Jedi. It's great as a sort of visual aide, but not much else. It tells only about a third of the events of the main novel, but in a very child-friendly fashion. Besides an error in the skin color of a minor character (green in the novel, blue here), it's a very nice little companion book to have if you're excited for the High Republic.

A cute picture book, depicting the Great Disaster or Part One of Light of the Jedi. It obviously doesn’t go into as much depth as Soule does in his novel, but Cavan Scott still does a great job capturing the direness of the situation and the triumph of the Jedi during the event in a voice appropriate for young readers.
It’s also great to see depictions of the new High Republic characters and vehicles, especially on the cute stickers included.

Oh my, such a wonderful child’s version of part one of “Light of the Jedi.” Oh yeah, it also comes with some pretty rad High Republic stickers which is a huge plus.
Not much more to add to a review coming from a 29 year old male who took it upon himself to stay up to date with all High Republic material but I did love the illustrations.

I won’t judge a children’s book too harshly, I’m still trying to feel like I understand what’s happening with the high republic with everything that’s been released, and feel like a child could follow to basic story structure of this book... but also like did like a bunch of people just die on the second page of a picture book

That was an interesting little story. It focused on the new High Republic storyline with new characters to behold and introduced new heroes that I am sure will reemerge elsewhere soon enough. It was not the usual children's book. Very nice.

A quick, highly condensed and censored version of Light of the Jedi designed to allow young kids to enjoy The High Republic along with us. As an adult reader, it's nice to put images to the ships and characters from the novel but, unless you have a small child, it's fine to skip it.

Wanted to know how the Longbeam and vector looked and BOOM! This book helped me understand their look. Really helpful if you don't know much about the species/ships looks the characters have in star wars.
