When Ember moved to Acorn Hills Academy with her best friend, she expected to be bullied by the popular girls, she expected to hate her Maths class, and she expected life to be as annoyingly mundane as ever. What she didn't expect was Reid. He's gorgeous, funny, unpredictable...and Ember hates him.
Reid Ashton thought he had everything he wanted: Girls threw themselves at him, guys envied him, not to mention his superhuman abilities thanks to being a vampire, just like his friends. But then he met Ember and discovered there was something he wanted more than his reputation after all....and he can't have her.
Worse, there's trouble heading straight for the vampires, and Ember is stuck in the crosshairs.

I loved this book so much. From the first page, right through to the end the author had me hooked. I enjoyed reading about Ember and her journey at Acorn Hills Academy. I adored the interaction between Reid and Ember, and could feel the sexual chemistry from the first time she spurned his advances. Sherry and Ricky were such a cute and believable couple.

I read this book over a three night period, and kept my reading until bedtime so I would be undisturbed! I cannot emphasize just how much I loved this book. It is quite impressive knowing that the author is only eighteen, and with a debut like this, I can only see bright things for her future.

The cover drew me in, and the creep factor ticks all the right boxes for me. H.G. Lynch is an author to watch out for in the future, not only will her words win you over, but her new, and fresh take on the vampire genre will have you craving for more.

I cannot wait until the sequel! 5 stars isn't enough.

I'm pretty sure I've already read this although I hadn't marked it off.

I had a look at it, realised that this book was published 2012 and the next 2015 and immediately gave this series the big ditch.

This book is really funny. Vampire book with a main female characters that loves vampires but hates romance and a vampire man-whore that finally met his match.

Ember is new in Acorn Hill Academy and the only thing she really wants is to have a bit of fun with her best friend, no boys attached. But the most popular man-whore of the Academy, Reid, wants to win her over, but Ember will show him that she is no regular girl.

I’m a vampire fangirl, but lately I’m not much in the mood for vampire romance, but this one is pretty nice, most because Ember couldn’t care less if Reid is a vampire or not, and certainly fight him over the small things. The whole love-hate relationship makes you laugh every single time that Ember and Reid prank each other. And it’s refreshing having the male character actually having trouble in charming the girl.

Ember is just really funny, she is described as small but just she makes up this difference in being very short-tempered and blunt, no one makes fun of her or humiliate her without receiving the same back. And she certainly shows that every time she fight against Reid.
Ember is not the kind of character that fights her feelings for the main male protagonist, she honestly don’t do well with understanding and facing her feelings and often wonders what she really feels towards Reid. After she discover Reid secret’s we get some insight that she is not just different because of her personality, but what is there to discover about Ember?

Reid is the whole “I know I’m handsome” and is often with different girls, and he has an reputation to prove it. But once he sets his eyes in charming Ember to his bed, all ideas of getting other girls seem just too boring for him, to easy. Ember is definitely a challenge and when everything fails and Ember just seem to want to be as far os possible from him, Reid begins to wonder if the challenge is all that catches his attention when it comes to Ember.

Put witches trouble, vampire trouble, relationship trouble, and high school drama and you have this book. We have some pov switch mostly between Reid and Ember but sometimes we get a glimpse in Sherry and Ricky’s thought.

I REALLY need to kick myself !!!!! I've had this book and the 2nd in the series on my kindle for over 12 months and only JUST got around to reading this one !!
I've read EVERY other book by H.G Lynch but have to admit that it was the cover of this which put me off slightly.(Yes i'm a scaredy cat when it comes to dolls etc)
Anyway !! This story was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !!
From page 1 i was glued, as we're introduced to Ember, a new girl at Acorn Academy. She for reasons she's unsure of attracts the attention of resident badboy/manwhore Reid Ashton. She thinks he's only paying her attention as he's already had almost every girl there but doesn't realise that by pushing him away, pranking him and generally trying to ignore him for being a total asshole, her actions are having the opposite effect !!
Reid can't understand why Ember is having the effect she is on him. He's NEVER been told NO by any girl before so in Ember doing so he see's a challenge. Ho knows he should stay away from her as unlike his friends he doesn't interact well with humans. Yet he just can't help himself......... This leads to some rather funny scenes between them both as they try to fight their feelings but fail, epically !!
I know i've done it backwards, reading H.G's other books prior to these, but in doing so it's given me the chance to see how her writing has improved. Yes this book is really well written. Yes i can tell it's her first book. But at the same time her style when writing this genre (YA Para) doesn't falter. Her use of descriptives are fantastic and make it so that you are able to visualize the surroundings, sounds, smells etc. I know, i'm wittering on but seriously this really was an amazing book !!
If you like sexy alpha vampires, witches, werewolves and a few unexpected twists, then THIS author is the one for you !!!

I enjoy reading paranormal stories, and couldn't wait to read this. It is a great YA paranormal read.

The main female character, Ember, is sassy and opinionated and really well written. I could really relate to her and I think a lot of young females will also relate. She is trying desperately to lead a normal life, blend in, and finds herself at the forefront of the action instead.

Reid is used to getting what, and who, he wants without even trying. But when he finds himself being turned down by Ember he realises he has to try harder. The more Ember pushes him away the more interested he becomes. But he has a secret.

And he isn't the only one with secrets!

I immediately downloaded book 2 as soon as I finished this as it does end on a bit of a cliffhanger!

This book doesn't read like the normal teen paranormal romance, it is quite dark and very suspenseful.
The interaction between Ember and Reid is intense, with Sherry and Ricky as a sweet background romance.
With vampires, witches and werewolves, it is full of action and drama. Well written, without the need for silly teen angst to make it work!
I have become quite a fan of H.g. Lynch as her work never fails to pull me into the story.

This was an intriguing story of teens at a school who encounter vampires, witches and werewolves. Great read!

The thrill of your first boyfriend for one girl and the irritation of a boy who likes to make you angry for another girl.

Something is afoot when witches come to town intent on wiping out the vampires. The witches will do anything to follow through.

Cliff hanger alert! Just as the story starts to get really intense...

This is a great YA supernatural read. It is so different from any vampire book I have read. It's in a school setting with sixteen year old girls falling in love. Ember hates romance and fights it every step of the way, while her roommate is all about romance.
Reid is the ultimate bad boy who has his life turned upside down by Ember. This book is for YA and Adults who enjoy a good read.

Hot Vampire bad Boys! Best Friends in a new school! Mix them together and what do you get? Reid, Ricky, Brandon and Perry are the “Bad Boys” of Ember and Sherry’s new school. Reid has bedded every girl in school and now he feasts his eyes on Ember. But there is something different about her. Something he feels stirring deep down, but doesn’t quite know what it is. To Ember, Reid is a hot sexy ass and all she wants to do is play practical jokes on him. Little did the both of them know, that playing those practical jokes on each other would turn into something more.
This story is awesome, with vampires, witches, werewolves and a Mother that wants control over her daughter, even though she goes to school away from home. You have young romance, high school style and best friends that are more like sisters. The story takes you through their relationship and you see how it blossoms into romance. You learn a secret that the boys are hiding and the story takes a whole new twist from there.
I feel that high school and young adult girls would really enjoy this book. H.G. Lynch is a very talented author and I enjoy reading her work and I think you will enjoy it too.

Much appreciate Ember's spirited nature!

There is a definite time and place when a girl needs a backbone. Holding one's own despite unexpected revelations is helpful. Humorous and full of exciting twists! Perfect for my romance queasy stomach.

::..Reviewed for Red's Midnight Readers..::
I was given an ARC of this in exchange for an honest review.

After moving to Acorn Hills Academy with her friend, Ember quickly realizes that things aren't going to go as she expected.

When i was given the opportunity to review another of H.G Lynch's books, i quickly jumped at the chance as i love her stories. However, i found this one a little lacking for me.
I enjoyed the concept of the book but it just didn't grab me like i had hoped. Ember (who definitely lives up to her fiery name), quickly got boring! Her constant attitude was just too much.
Initially i enjoyed the witty banter and sizzling chemistry that was building between Ember and resident Man-whore Reid but the constant backwards and forwards, will they, won't they became a little tedious, as that basically filled out the middle of the book with not a lot else happening.

However, as the action started to pick up and secrets started to be spilled i did find myself starting to enjoy this book and then it was over!! I now can't wait to find out what happens next.

I gave it 3.5 stars.

This book stands on its own as a bad-boy romance, but it's marketed as a vampire/paranormal book, even though that aspect of the story is barely there. Any time vampires or witches were introduced, it felt out of place like I was reading two different books that were disjointedly stitched together.

That being said, the saving grace of this book is the characters. Ember is a firecracker, and her back-and-forth relationship with Reid was fun and cute. I liked reading the development of their relationship. HG Lynch is very good at making you care for her characters.

In the end, I'll give it 2 stars. The romance was cute & the characters are very well-written, but I felt misled by the Paranormal Romance label that this book was marketed as. The vampire angle feels like an underdeveloped afterthought.
