Big Man's Contract by Penny Wylder is
Madden and Lina's story. This is about the shy boy next door and the "mean girl". Madden was in love with Lina but she didn't speak out when a nasty prank got pulled on Madden then ended up moving away...fast forward 10 years later when Lina moves back to town after her dad died and she's trying to get her dad's bar opened back up. Madden has changed since Lina last saw him. He is all buff and muscles but he is carrying a grudge due to how things were left between them. Can these two mend fences? Well this is a 2nd chance romance so yea! I am a bit unhappy with the ending. I liked the plot but the story left questions. Madden and Lina are great together. Lots of passion, angst, drama and romance but no real HEA...overall good read, with good characters.

Hmmmmmm
Short stories are an art. Done well they leave me satisfied.
This felt like an incomplete outline instead of a book. It was uneven and awkward. I wish it had been fully flushed. It needed more story for any of the resolution to feel real. Even the steam was lackluster.

This story needed tone expanded a lot. This is a novel parading as a short stoey. Things are resolved unrealistically, the reasoning behind some things makes no sense. I've read other books by this author, so I'm chalking it up to being an early novel.

I liked this story. It was entertaining and enjoyable even though it had peer pressure and bullying as part of the storyline. The characters were interesting. The town was almost another character with how everyone knew the gossip and picked a side. Haley's behavior both when the girls were teenagers and again as adults was outrageous. Lina was way more forgiving than I would be. Madden was also way more forgiving of everyone including Lina than I would be. Madden really made the story for me. He was super sweet and even though his proposition isn't gentlemanly it does start a new chapter in his life. I was surprised at how helpful Madden was when it came to helping Lina. Lina was difficult for me to understand. I didn't get why she went along with everyone back when they were in high school and I didn't understand why she came back a year after her dad died. Lina's parent's decision also baffled me. I liked how the story ended but I would have preferred an epilogue further out to round out the story. I recommend reading this book.

I liked Lina & Madden's story even if it was occasionally maddening. High school drama was still being played out eight years later. While some of it really sucked for both of them, when they reconnected, they REALLY reconnected! There is a mix of sweet, steamy, sad, and bitter moments throughout. I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

Lina/Linny, 25, returned to the town she had grown up in but left at age 17 to move with her mom to California. She had returned after her father died to reopen his bar but found that the townspeople seemed to hate her. In high school she had been a “mean girl” and pulled an embarrassing prank on her friend Madden that caused him to be ridiculed in school. Madden, now handsome and well built is one of the first people she sees on her return and he is the only one willing to help her get the bar fixed but he demands that she spend a night in his bed. He plannned to have his revenge by making her beg for more and he’ll walk away this time. Is Lina still the “mean girl” she was in high school or has she matured? Will Madden get his revenge or will old feelings be rekindled?
I thoroughly enjoyed this short well written story of 2 people reconnecting. The author did a great job letting you see why Lina and Madden acted the way they did in the past and present time. It was a feel good story of people maturing and changing for the better.

Lina is coming back to her hometown to try and bring her father's bar back to what it used to be. She never expected to find her homecoming to be filled with hate from people she left behind. Madden had a reason to be mad and to hate her for what she had done. However if he gave her a chance to explain he would know all the facts. Madden wants to make her suffer a little while he pays her back for what she did. What he doesn't know is that everything he and everyone else has been told isn't the truth at all about what really happened all those years ago. Lina doesn't know why her mother took her away from the town and her father but she intends to find out. Will she find out her answers? Will Madden get his revenge? Can they move forward?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is sizzling hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.

BIG MAN'S CONTRACT is a fun and entertaining story about a woman who has to atone for her sin but in the most delicious and sexy way. Lina was a "mean girl" in high school who pulled a trick on Madden that was quite unforgivable. Shortly after her mother moved the two of them to California leaving her father back in their hometown. So Lina never got a chance to apologize to Madden and try to make it right, which was highly doubtful in the first place. But now she has come back home after her father had died and is trying to reopen the bar he owned. When she quickly discovers that she cannot do it alone it ends up that Madden is able to help her............but for a price. Madden is ready to have some revenge on Lina but once he finds out all of the circumstances that had happened he may be thinking a little differently. Lina is really thinking differently as the young boy she had known, who she secretly had a crush on in high school, has changed into a very big, handsome and sexy man, ALL MAN!!!

This story was great. Lina & Madden they have some history and it was great to see them work through their issues. The author did a great job with how these two handle their past and present feelings for one another. A hit for me!

This book had great promise but it doesn't deliver. So many pot holes that adds the brakes to it.
1. What was the reason for all the hatred shown to Linney when she arrives back.
2. What about the vandalism towards the bar and are the perpetrators apprehended?
3. What causes the complete turn around of the town's people towards Linney.
4. What was Haley's story and how does she manipulate Linney and all around.
5. Where are everyone else? Is this a ghost town?
It would have made such a great book , unfortunately all we are left is grasping at straws.
Linney and Madden are a great couple. But again its so one dimensional- aren't there any one else living in this town? Where are the towns folk?
Once again this book brings up the role of an editor? Are they even existing? How did they clear this book with so many loop holes and loose ends?

This book brings us Madden and Lina. They went to high school together where Lina was a "mean girl." She was secretly interested in Madden, but wouldn't let her friends know that. They lived next door to each other. However, one night, she was supposed to spend it with Madden and her friends, along with others, came and surprised a very naked Madden. As sorry as Lina was, she didn't speak out. Shortly after, her and her mother up and left for California. Now she has returned as her father passed away and she is left trying to re-open his bar. Madden hears she is in town, and goes to see her. This, however, is not the same boy that left. He is all muscle. As hard as he tries to hate her for his humiliation, he just can't seem to stay away from her. Lina is left to re-examine her life, and realizes she was a mean girl. She makes amends with Madden, although he does have an offer for her also. This is a great read and I highly recommend it.

A hard one for me in terms that I devoured it and didnt sleep until I was finished but also that I was frustrated beyond belief. Don't get me wrong, I love Penny's writing and I LOVED Lina and Madden and their come back again story BUT... I need some resolution.
The ending was very, oh it's all a misunderstanding caused by *I cant spoil sorry!* but... I wanted jail time, I wanted public humiliation, I wanted VENGEANCE!!! 🙈😂🤣
I also didnt understand Lina's parents or their decisions at all. So I was stuck in shock at like, what? No way? Theres gotta be something more.
Definetly give this one a read if you're looking for a quick, happily ever after, somewhat redemption story.

I'm a huge fan of second chance romance so I couldn't wait to dive into this one. Overall a good book but, not necessarily one of my faves by PW.
We got our usual angst and steam as well as the drama but I feel like there could've been soo much more between Madden and Lina.
M&L had all the chemistry and the makings of some serious make-up $ex and unbelievable drama but I didn't get that... I was OOKKK with it but still it left me wanting more... but maybe that's the point right?
When you've got the nasty "mean girl" and the nerd turned hottie is there really a resolution that can be had for actions of the past? And let's be honest, it's not like we can truly explain our teenage actions!!

This is a quick, hot read about second chances. Lina returns to her hometown after her father's death with the intention of restoring his bar. However she is met with distaste from most of the townfolk when she asks for their help. Madden, a boy she bullied comes to her rescue with one condition.
Lina has a long journey ahead of her to get acceptance again & also gain the trust of Madden. Plus she has to deal with a few friends from her past.
It was quite touching at times how she tried to redeem herself & her interaction with Madden. A nice feel good read.

Former mean girl Lina and sweet and one-time nerdy Madden are likable characters whose high school friendship/almost-romance ended badly. Madden's transformation from teenage boy to big, hot, muscley man is not lost on a regretful Lina who is forced to admit that she still has feelings for the boy she hurt so long ago. Will Madden get his revenge or find forgiveness in his heart?
This sweet and steamy second chance romance did not resonate with me as much as some of the author's more recent books but it is still an enjoyable, interesting read.

I volunteered to read this ARC for an honest review. I enjoyed this quick story about Lina and Madden. They grew up next to each other, he had a crush on her and she liked him to. When a promise gets turned into a prank, he's left hurting and she's embarrassed. Fast forward a few years, she returns town after her father's death to reopen his bar. When Madden shows up after a call to the local locksmith, she's beyond flustered. He wants revenge and she wants to make amends. But her friend from HS made a mess and now she needs to figure out how to fix it. A HEA in the works.

I enjoyedbthis short story about Lina and Madden. Lina had been part of the mean girl crew in high school however, she really liked Madden. When fellow mean girl Hayley finds out, she kind of forces Lina's hand where Madden is concerned.
Shortly after a really mean prank, Lina's mom suddenly moves her to California. She does not keep in touch with her friends.
She returns home 5 years later after the death of her father. Everyone in town seems tonhate her except of course Madden. They reconnect whilw restoring her father's bar.
The heat level was 🔥🔥🔥🔥. Definitely recommend this story.

Lina and Madden. High school can be a complete nightmare, especially if you are the nerd in love with the HBIC. Little did Madden know that she loved him too but she couldn’t show weakness or chance being dethroned. A prank was played that affected both of their lives. Lina moves back to town after her father’s death and everyone hates her. Does Madden? He’s changed on the outside but has he changed on the inside?
Madden and Lina are such a cute couple. They are trying to maneuver through the minefield of their past selves and feelings to what’s going on in the present, it was a good story, would definitely recommend.

I just finished reading this story and it was really freaking good! Every book Penny has comes out with gets better and better. The writing was done beautifully and flows throughout the story without any errors. Love it! This is kind of enemies into lovers story with a twist. Lina is all grown up and came back to her hometown. She is different, funny, smart,and beautiful. I love how she own up to her mistakes and independent. Madden is the boy next that was in love with Lina. Madden turned into a handsome man that is confident in himself. He's sweet, smart, down to earth and love to help others. What will happen when they see each other for the first time?

This was a quick read super steamy second chance at love romance. Lina Renier was the mean girl queen bee in her small town high school. Madden Trek was the boy next door who was hopelessly in love with her. Lina and her mean friends played a nasty trick on Madden in high school and now that she is back in town renovating her father's bar he wants his revenge. Will Lina pay the price her high school crush demands? Must read to find out how they resolve their differences.

Lina was the mean girl back in high school until her mother moved her out of town and years later she returns to open her late fathers bar. She was always picking on her next door neighbor Madden and played a very dirty trick on him and she feels terrible because it was her friend that wanted to do it and she went along with it. Everyone in town turns their back on her but the one sexy hot Madden and he helps her to open the bar. There are some twists in the story that shakes things up but in the end she explains to him why she treated him so badly which is she really liked him.

Penny Wylder is one of my favorite writers so anytime she has a new book, I am quick to jump on it. I loved Big Man's Contract. When Lina returns to Pepperhill to reopen her dad's bar after his death she isn't expecting to see Madden. When they were kids Lina tormented him and used his feelings for her to humiliate him. Will everyone in town refusing to help her, Madden sees his chance at revenge. After all these years Lina regrets the way she treated Madden. There is no denying the explosive chemistry between Madden and Lina. Will they finally get their second chance?

This book very well describes the secrets and the gossip so rampant in a small town, Also, how well-loved a kind-hearted person is! Lena and Madden had grown up caring for each other until Lena's mother suddenly moved her to California leaving her father in the small town to run his bar and keep making mortgage payments on the house. But they get a second chance to clear up misunderstandings when she returns eight years later after her father's death to reopen his bar. You will shed a few tears before it's over! Short, sweaty, but sweet, Recommended.
