Clyde Hatchett hadn’t planned on running away to become a pirate -- that’s just what happened. Now he’s on a seaside mission far from Glaton, desperate to find the only mage capable of freeing Clyde from the corpse-king taking over his body. Get ready for a nonstop joyride full of secrets, betrayal, loot -- and mermaids!
Oh and on the way, Clyde will have to rescue his tjene’s sister from marrying a murderous slave owner.
The winds of ill-fortune may be blowing directly at Clyde, but our down-on-his luck rogue assembled the best team in the business to help him succeed: a libertine swordsman who keeps getting arrested, a mohawked captain whose crew is perpetually on the brink of mutiny, and a salty old seadog who’s very nice and has a lot of… well, he’s very nice, and that has to count for something, right? Add Hellion the mimic and Grim the little grimeling to the mix, and there’s no stopping this dream team.
Not even the mermaids.
Seas the Day is the swashbuckling fifth novel in the Bad Guys LitRPG series. If you like adventure on the high seas, breathtaking magic, and monstrous creatures, pick up this page-turner today!
This one had inconsistent pacing. The first third of the book had nothing to drive it forward. The supposed clock that was counting down, was undermined by a complete lack of concern by the team 99% of the time.
Also, and I know this won't annoy many, the land ship they construct is an engineering impossibility. At least paper over the logic holes with magic... please.
Clyde is now sliding into the realms of the over-powered. He has gained two types of magical sight, that, when added to his already impressive repertoire, take him over the top into the strata of the unstoppable.
What keeps me engaged is that the whole team is likable. I want them to succeed, and to have fun doing it.
But it’s definitely going down hill. I don’t know why Eric has decided Clyde should become a complete idiot? But i thought this character of the two was suppose to have a modicum of intelligence. If the next one doesn’t pick up I’m done this half of the series. Not a fan of both characters being big hearted idiots, maybe that’s all he knows how to write, but it gets old.
Adventure on the seas often involves piracy and sea monsters
Surprise surprise it’s time for a nautical adventure that Clyde has no choice about. His ‘mentor’ is definitely insane but he has a mimic and a grimeling as pets so he’s an oddity himself. Yet Clyde had a decent heart and certain morals that clash with this world. He also learns more about his Drain spell and the unknown side effects that could shorten his adventures in this world. Unless somehow maintains his sense of self, which will seem much less likely as you read along. Our hapless hero rogue is bouncing from one bad situation and decision to another but he will soon learn more about his status as a pawn in a larger game. Read on for crazy adventures on the sea, including a kraken, well once they convince Clyde he has to leave Glaton for a bit. Ironically he runs into the Crown Prince again during an awkward moment of one of his ‘grand’ plans.
The series is really hitting it's stride now. Clyde is a very different protagonists from Montana, more tricky, more magical, less violent ( not hard! The Tasmanian Devil is less Violent than Montana), but 5he signature humor and dialogue is there in Spades and it's good to see a thief/mage navigate to this world.
We also get to see more of the world in this book which is a big plus.
This is a very fun, funny, entertaining book in a bleak year.
I felt like this was a long form way to add more females to complicate the MCs life. I enjoyed this, but the turning into a monster and getting Shanghai to the boat was rude considering how nearly all those in the guild owe the MC several times over.
I'm meh on this book because it felt like a novella of the MCs travels that amounted to avoiding dealing with the big issue. Side quest might have been a good title. Still well written, great performance.
Seas the Day The Bad Guys Series: Book 5 By Eric Ugland
Summary: Best in the series thus far. Want to read again. 5/5 stars.
This may have been the first novel in the series where I felt Clyde was truly a bad guy: stealing and murdering (in a wartime or pirate setting though). It was also the first novel in the series that I could not put down. Sure the others have been really good, but Seas the Day has been simply superb writing. The author definitely knows how to write a pirate book to boot.
The Good: * Oh cool, dual casting has fun implications. * The fact that the mimic chest and the grimeling slipped in as “cargo” on Clyde’s journey makes for all sorts of interesting possibilities on their quest. * Finally, like Montana with Mr. Paul, Clyde gets a patron god: “Kent” the god of shadows. * I’m loving Clyde’s continued immersion into the world of magic and how often he’s casting now. Specifically the necromantic spells are invigoratingly entertaining: Vicious Wrench, hoorah! Also Bone Sight gets an honorable mention. * The Corpse King subplot is very intriguing. I can’t readily recall how Clyde slew his predecessor but Clyde is forever changed because of it, more and more as time goes on. His Corpse King out-of-body visions are very intriguing and adds another layer of mystery to an already gripping story. * Arg! Excellent pirate writing, Eric! You’re much better writing about pirates than cowboys (i.e. Wild Wild Quest). And pitting the adventures against other baddies has a very redeeming quality to it, especially when the latter gets their comeuppance. * Loved Seinfeld’s “Serenity Now!” quote. * And then a “Princess Bride” quote, lol. * The homage to Clyde’s remembrance of Clara was touching. * I wondered when Clyde and Trolls would meet again. Happened at the perfect time too.
The Meh: * Although it should have been expected from an author who writes his books with no ends in sight, but the whole complete diversion from the goal they set out for did not take long to arrive at, nor does it seem likely they’ll get back on their original quest any time soon. * Before the end, another of these quests comes along, and at least Clyde has the gumption to admit how he’s being taken off his course to do these quests for others.

First, my review: “This was a fun book. I am glad that I read it. You should try it too.”
Second, I am not a bot...at least I don’t think I am. Yes this is copy pasta (just learned that term, so fun!) simply because I feel like any book I read deserves acknowledgement but at the same time my feelings on reviews conflict with the normal review process.
I enjoyed this book, so my goal is to promote it and help the author. If you are a potential reader, just stop reading now and take the above as all you need to know. I am not going to share my reasoning, thoughts on the book, or any opinions that would influence your decision to read it. It is my opinion that Art needs to be experienced at an individual level. You are the only one that can determine what you like and don’t like. Don’t let others make that decision for you. You should definitely read the book and completely ignore all of the reviews. Or not if you don’t think this book is for you. That choice is all yours and the beauty of art appreciation. You are a much better judge of what you will like than anyone here.
If you are a member of the IAK Guild (thanks, Jason) or part of the review police, feel free to criticize me and challenge my philosophy on reviewing art. I think we all love a good debate. The forums are open and I welcome your comments. I was wrong in my previous request to get you to stop. Your blatant disregard for that request has led to some fun discussions. Growth is important for us all.
I have only one question ... when is the next one coming out?
I am an addict of Eric Ugland's work (both the Good guys and Bad guys series, though personally I find the Bad Guy's series more humorous)
The voice artist Neil Hellegers continues to do an awesome job narrating the series with just the right amount of panache to deliver kick ass punchlines.
The face slapping is subtle but the MC charges ahead , succeeds and survives along with his companions through miraculous actions. One of the reasons I love Gamelit/LiTrpg genre.
Being away from Glatin for the first time in in the series ... I would alternatively have titled this episode as "The one in which they crashed a wedding" (spoiler)
A very fun read and highly recommend checking out the series.
Clyde is on another quest and this time it's personal and urgent. When he finds out that one of his tjene has a sister, who is forced into marriage, he decides to save her. Off they go on a ship to sail to the rescue. It's never that easy though and in between getting new friends out of jail, fighting a kraken and almost being killed by mer- people, Clyde continues training in magic.
This book is a wild ride and I loved every moment of it. I love all the scenes with Hellion the Mimic and I'm looking forward to find out what abilities the Grimeling (Clyde's other "pet") has.
It gets better with every book I'm reading and honestly, if you haven't picked one of Eric Ugland's books up by now, go and get one!
Clyde Hatchet is trying to journey to a distant land in time to get his drain spell removed from his head before his body can be taken over by the corpse king he used the spell on. So, naturally, with no time for any distractions, he gets pulled into a number of side quests, shipwrecked, and more. Like all the other books in this series, this one is just packed with fun as Clyde continues to do what he does best—help people and then come up with ingenious and innovative ways to get out of all the problems everyone gets him into. Still don't know why this series is called The Bad Guys because Clyde and his friends are clearly among the best of men and women.
loving this series, the snark, the adventure, the twists & turns
The MC gets Shanghaied by his friends so that he doesn’t turn into a Corpse Lord’s skin-suit. They go on a quest to get to a city in Carchedon by boat… oops by ship. Of course there are pirates, sea monsters, mer-people and being ship-wrecked. Through it all, the MC works on leveling his magic whilst coming up with hare-brained but effective schemes to get them out of trouble. All the while, his snark is ongoing. Gotta luv it.
What a great book. It was a lot of fun to read. I have been anticipating this book and I wasn't disappointed at all.
My only complaint is that it had a little bit of profanity. Usually I take off one star for profanity but since it was just a little bit and it was such a fun book to read it gets 5 stars instead of 6.
It unusual for every book in a series to be stellar. This series… is. The plot is so fresh and creative and what’s more amazing is how this intensity is maintained throughout each and every episode book! I almost didn’t want to pause to give a review, because I was so eager to proceed with Book 6. It’s extremely easy to award a solid 5 stars to this series!
As expected, more problems follow Clyde as he is off to deal with his approaching identity crisis. Along the way he will naturally get into another situation to throw him off from his needed quest, thanks to being too nice as usual.
A good read, advances the story well, but way too short, as virtually any enjoyable book is!
Eric Ugland's books are always a joy to read. It was an action-packed rollercoaster full of twists and turns that did not disappoint. My only note of critique is that is needed another pass through an editor. There are some small and obvious mistakes, but still a great story.
Love love loved it darling... But. Where was the shopping? Not a bit of dicker? Where were the stats? No crafting or stats?! No sewer escapades?! Gasp! Shocking! I dare say, young man, you have forgotten the character sheets! Well....I never. A Good day sir! I say unto you, Good day!
Again Mr. Ugland brings us another absolute killer of a book! Both the Good Guys and the Bad Guys are hands down the best litrpgs I've ever read and in the top five series I'veever read period also Mr. Ugland is a freakin riot, definitelythe funniest author I'veever read
Buy this book or at least read it on KU. Clive gets to do more fantastic adventures and learns a little more magic. Certainly causes plenty of people not to like him or his party. My only concern is that I have to wait months for the next book in the series.
They finally left the big city to see the world--and the world was cool to see. But most of the characters seemed to stay static (many chapters had only 1 other of the MC's party in it) and the plot was more a series of adventures rather than one big story. It was still awesome, but the world building crowded out some of the other elements.
I had put the series down because I didn’t want boats or a whole sidequest keeping everyone from Glaton. What I did get was an adventure that I had a lot more reading than I expected. Still annoyed that the plot is taking such a large side stroll but at least the adventuring is top notch.
Who would have fought that canalisation work experience qualifies you to become an empress candidate?
This book consists mostly of cultivated boredom, slapstick and Conan like encounters. The MC is becoming ever more stupid but OP. The way they travel through the desert is so stupid that it is almost funny.
Solid 5 stars and this one just deepens my love and respect for Mr. Ugland's talent and depth. This Bad Guys is more of a slow burn than The Good Guys but man has it been worth it. I was worried that the plot direction the author took with this series might reduce my interest in the series or fall into some well worn trails but not the case at all great job!
A chaotic journey across the sea, sands, and Carchedon. Clyde does what he does best, what he needs to, plus a little rifling through pockets for gold. Pretty entertaining addition to the series.
Adventure at every turn for Clyde and the gang! Can’t wait for the next! Yes there are a few typos, but that doesn’t take away from the story and certainly shouldn’t take away a star. Keep writing Eric and I’ll keep reading!
Another awesome installment in the series written to Eric's abnormally high standards. Fun book, great characters, what more do you want? Well, in my case I want more! Write faster please.
I love the exploration and seeing the sights! Eric has such a wonderfully full world, I love getting to see more of it. Ships, oceans, the great erg, wonderful to see them all in this book.
