Queen of Beach Reads is back with a delicious, intriguing, engaging, addictive, unputdownable gem to devour at one bite!

This is fast pacing, action packed, exciting murder mystery centered at the pop motel in Florida Beach-town.

Quick paced story starts with new comer/ fugitive Letty Carnahan’s arrival at the parking lot of Murmuring Surf motel with her sweet pie 4 years old niece Maya.

They are running from authorities because she finds sister lying on a blood bath at her house as her little

This was my sadly my least favorite Mary Kay Andrews book yet.....for a book that’s easily 150 pages too long (always a MKA staple, the woman needs a better editing system) the book just felt rushed and the plot too cut and dry. It needed some surprises or twists and turns that you didn’t see coming from a mile away.

MKA’s books notoriously for me are way too long but they’re usually solid 4-4.5 star reads, but there wasn’t much of a mystery to this fish out of water mystery story. The book revo

A life in peril. A disaster in the making. A con artist able to manipulate, gaslight, and terrorize an entire family.
Nobody knew the real Evan. However, he's had a history of abuse. A man that would do anything to save face, to receive a source of supply, to replenish his benefits for himself. A selfish man devoid of empathy. A man that literally sold out his own for the sake of himself.

Beach season will be right around the corner when this fantastic new book is published in May, 2021. I am reading it in January but it still gave me warm thoughts of the summer ahead.

Mary Kay Andrews is one of those few authors who NEVER disappoints her readers. Her new book is another fantastic read for lovers of books about strong women who are faced with huge obstacles to overcome.

Thank you St Martins Press and Netgalley for an early copy of this book.

I was captured from the beginning when a lady on the run with a 4 year old end up in FL from NY. They are running from something and the story will take you on an interesting ride to find out their story.

This is a book with mystery, deep family love, some quirky characters and a bit of romance. This is a great book and one that all MKA fans should greatly en

Letty is on the run with her niece Maya after finding her sister murdered. She heads to the Murmuring Surf motel where she and Maya are embraced by the owner and her family.

Unfortunately, the crimes committed in Mew York have made headlines and Petty is considered a subject in the murder.

Lots of mystery and suspense in this story!

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

Mary Kay did her usual fantastic job on this book. But I must tell you her writing style has changed a lot from her beginnings. The topics are way less frivolous. The storylines and characters are more profound and more mysterious. The last few books have less humor and off-the-wall characters in them. In this book, the main mystery is quite complicated, and because there are actually 2 mysteries going on, it can get a little complicated. There are some stereotypical characters in this book (th

Thank you, Net Galley, for an advance copy for an honest review.
I have read many of Mary Kay Andrews books which I have enjoyed. This one was good, and I did enjoy it. I liked the main character Letty- she is just a regular person who is doing the best she can. When her sister is murdered, she takes her niece out of harms way. She ends up at an old fashion motel on the beach in Florida where she hides out. I liked the characters who are staying at the motel and they really enriched the story.

I really enjoyed this book. I love books with the beach and kids. A hot cop thrown in didn't hurt either. I could just picture the regulars at the motel. I see a group like them at our favorite beachfront motel. I love all her books. ...more

I won this book as an Advanced Reader Copy from Goodreads and was very excited as I had never gotten an advance copy of a book before. I have read all of Mary Kay Andrews books and thoroughly enjoyed this story. The characters were very believable; we have the heroine on the run with a huge problem, a very kind and sympathetic motel owner, a sexy, skeptical local cop, hilarious seniors, all contributing to a very interesting plot. This will be a great summer read when it’s released in May. Hope ...more

I've read nearly all of the books by Mary Kay Andrews and this one could easily be my favorite. As always, the character development is superb, the story is heartwarming as well as a page turner.. After a very long drive from New York to Florida, with her 4 year old niece, Maya, in tow, Letty pulls into the parking lot of the Murmuring Surf Motel displaying a clearly marked signed indicating parking is by assignment only for the guests. Exhausted and cramped from sitting so long in the Kia she p ...more

Mary Kay Andrews’s The Newcomer is a book that’ll make you wish you were sitting on a beautiful Floridian beach. Its strengths lie with its mystery/suspense elements, which take the foreground in this particular narrative. The romantic elements, on the other hand, feel kind of forced.

Letty is on the run. After her sister, Tanya, is killed, Letty knows she has to save her niece, Maya, from her father, who Letty is convinced killed her sister. Enter the The Murmuring Surf Motel and its compassion

I am already predicting this book to be the #1 beach read of 2021! Mary Kay Andrews totally knocks it out of the ballpark with this story. I loved it and read it in 1 day.
The story is set in the present, but goes back to the past when it reflects on the events that support the story being told. The main character, Letty, is living in New York City working as a waitress while waiting to become a famous actress when she finds herself without a place to stay after her roommate wants her boyfriend t

I was a newcomer to Mary Kay Andrews with The Newcomer, but nothing about the book makes me want to stick around, or read any of her earlier books. This whole story was a hot mess, from a cliche storyline made even more cliche and cheesy by how it played out, to the multiple points of view at different time period - including briefly a cat, and the random interactions of the characters. Letty takes her niece Maya and flees New York to Florida after her sister Tanya is murdered. The suspect in qu ...more

This was my first time reading a book by Mary Kay Andrews. I've been wanting to read her work, and was drawn to this latest effort due to its being set in Treasure Island/St. Pete/Tampa, which is where I'm from. I liked how authentic the details of the setting were; Andrews perfectly captures the seediness and quirkiness inherent in the area that is, on its surface, an easy, breezy beach town. The entire beachside motel community is portrayed with vivid accuracy, from the ramshackle pool furnitu ...more

Letty and her niece are in trouble and on the run after Letty found her sister’s body on the floor of her condo. Letty packed a bag and headed to a hotel listed in a slip of paper packed in her sister’s emergency bag - The Murmuring Surf.

Letty is wanted in the murder of her sister, and in the kidnapping of her niece Maya. She finds a friend and job at the Murmuring Surf, but is constantly on edge as the owner’s police officer son seems to be hot on her trail. Will he figure out why she is there

This is only the third book I have read of this author's. I can honestly say that I am coming to like her for that fun, mysterious, easy, beach read. That's what her books seem to be, and I have no complaints.

I wasn't quite sure where this book was going to take me when it first started. The mysterious beginnings of this book had me wondering just what could possibly happen that would lead me to that ending that I know Andrews will deliver.

This romantic suspense novel has a lot going for it: a believable, flawed main female character, an appealing low-key romance, and a suspenseful situation involving a child hunted by a criminal father. Secondary characters, some quirky and loveable and others menacing, also add to the enjoyment of a good read. The writing is assured and skillful, so the story flows well. I finished the novel in two days. This is the first novel I’ve read by this author, and I will certainly seek out more of her ...more

From the beginning of this book, I was intrigued as to what happened to send the main character on a nonstop, rushed journey with a toddler not her own. Blood is mentioned as a reason to be on the run. But who died and how?

As the story progresses, more clues are slowly revealed. A warm and fuzzy who-dun-it, little romance, a little family drama, all part of a tangled web of mystery.

I've enjoyed reading the last several novels written by Ms. Andrews and was thrilled to be offered this one as an ARC. I enjoyed this one, but not as much as ones that she has written previously. The setting is super vivid, as they always are, and the pacing is good. I feel like the characters were not as developed as they could have been, and the plot is kind of thin. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a quick, breezy read!

I loved that this story was a bit different for MKA! It was set during summer but in Florida this time and had some suspense thrown in throughout most of the story. There was definitely family drama and love which her stories are known for but this story added another layer. Thanks Netgalley for this ARC!

I received this book as an ARC. I am so glad I did. From the first pages you are pulled in to a tragic story featuring an Aunt and her niece. I could not wait to see how the story unfolded. It was hard to put this book down. From New York to the beaches of Florida we are ensconced in a story about a woman starting over with her four year old niece in tow. However, this book was such a quick easy read. I loved it. There was action and drama and of course romance. There were a few typos and misprints that need to be corrected, but otherwise highly recommend.
