Over the past year or so, I’ve wondered at random times, “What is Chevy Stevens up to, and when will she release a new book?” As a fan, you can imagine my delight when I saw that DARK ROADS was announced as her upcoming novel...and the result of her work is compelling.

Cold Creek Highway has been well known for decades. There have been countless warnings:

This was the hardest book I've ever written and the one I am most proud of because it took me the longest to find. Plus, I love Wolf, and if there is ever a movie made, I can't wait to meet him in real life. Paws crossed. ...more

When St. Martin’s....[a publishing company that treats their readers with respect ... never pushy... yet ‘kindly’ suggests and reminds early-arc-readers of a book that we might like]....sent me an email about Chevy Steven’s new novel....
I said to myself, “Okay, why not?”.

My childhood close friend, absolutely loved “Still Missing”. I was a holdout...but read it ‘hoping’ to love it because she did. I didn’t love it....yet we’re still close friends 50 years later.
So....knowing this was an early -

Chevy Stevens is back and better than ever with a grisly tale that will make you think twice before driving down any deserted highways at night. DARK ROADS is a chilling, pulse-pounding thriller that also tugs at the heartstrings. It's everything you've come to love from a master of the psych thriller genre! ...more

Here’s a little confession. I broke up with Chevy Stevens for a bit because her books just weren’t doing it for me anymore. I still blame it all on the fact that Still Missing was just toooooooooo good and the others were probably fine if my brain didn’t insist on constantly comparing them to that one. Then I was over on the NetGalley because I need friends like these . . . .

And this was a Read Now and if you are an addict you know it’s real hard not to click the button when pushers pub

Welcome back, Chevy Stevens!! Dark Roads played in every single emotion I had, it turned my stomach, broke my heart, made me think and made my blood pressure rise!! I loved this emotional page turner. Every character touched my heart and left an imprint. Compulsively readable because you’ll want a resolution and to know how this story turns out. Absolutely breath taking. I love being an early reader but can’t wait to talk about this book with someone. So many emotions. One of the best thrillers ...more

After patiently waiting 3 years for Chevy Stevens next novel, I can honestly say that it was worth the wait.

With the suspense of missing hitchhikers always looming in the background, Dark Roads involves four young people: Hailey, Beth, Jonny, and Amber. In typical Chevy fashion, she has created 4 characters that are so real that it is hard to leave them at the end of the book. You will cry with Beth, get angry with Hailey, feel the weight of the world with Jonny, and connect with Amber. The gor

Dark Roads is a confident powerhouse of a thriller, written by an author who knows exactly what she’s doing. There’s soul in the mountain setting, the clear love of the Pacific Northwest, and if you don’t fall in love with the dog in the story, you need your heartstrings checked. The plot builds to cinematic crescendos that come at you in terrifying waves. You won’t be able to put it down, and you’ll never guess the villain. I loved it. Well played, Chevy Stevens. You worked hard on this one and ...more

I read my first Chevy Stevens book about three years ago and ended up reading the rest of them within a short amount of time. I was super excited to see that she had a new book coming out this year and it did not disappoint!
I started this book in the afternoon and ended up staying up until 2 a.m. to finish it. This story was gritty, atmospheric, and suspenseful. The setting being primarily woods, back roads, and trails made it perfectly creepy. The twist wasn’t shocking, but rather I read it wit

I love that Chevy Stevens is back, and I really enjoyed this one. I did not realize it won't be out until August 2021, so I will try not to get everyone too excited, haha. Stevens often writes about the outdoors, but this one is really steeped in survival, bringing back echoes of those books I loved as a child (My Side of the Mountain comes to mind). And of course, there are the requisite thrills, a small town packed with secrets and fear. I'm excited for this book to come out. ...more

Chevy knocked it out of the park with Dark Roads! This book had me hooked from the first few pages and made me feel all the emotions that come with her books. Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's press for the opportunity to read an advanced copy of this novel, Dark Roads by Chevy Stevens.

This book sucked me in from the prologue and held me tight until long after I finished reading the Epilogue.

I became deeply invested in Hailey and her dog, Wolf as the story progresses. Beth, the secondary main character, did not appear until halfway through the book but I soon became deeply invested in her as well.

This book has everything you need to be creeped out

A very good psychological thriller with a surprise ending. Many women have gone missing along a highway. Amber who has left her family home moves to a small town near this highway and finds employment at a truck stop along this highway. Amber starts a relationship with Hailey who has left her aunts home to live in the woods with the help of Jonny her longtime friend when she finds incriminating pictures on her uncle’s computer. Amber goes missing and since Hailey suspects her uncle Vaughn she an ...more

Where do I even begin with this book? I’ve been a fan of Chevy Stevens from the very beginning. The depth in her characters never ceases to amaze me, and I am continually amazed by the twists she puts into her thrillers. I was thrilled to receive this ARC from NetGalley, but after reading the first chapter I knew that I was in for more than I had even hope for with this one! The creep factor was definitely raised in this one, and yet it was all very believable. Always know where you are heading, ...more

This book had me guessing until the reveal. I didn't see it coming. Really tough to decide who to trust in town. I would be a victim. I was surprised to hear it was based on a real highway.
I liked the different viewpoints in which the story is told. It was interesting to see how family members are affected. Beth was so determined. Hailey was relentless. I recommend this one.
Thank you, Netgalley for this opportunity to read this.

I'm at a crossroads with this one. One on hand, the high-paced and nerve-rattling ending helped redeem the story for me. On the other hand, I can't help but remember that a good chunk of the book, (about 40 percent) I kept wishing for the pace to speed up and maintain my attention. There's nothing wrong with the storytelling perse. The writing is beautifully authentic and each character, even the side characters, comes through the page in a way that made me feel like they were people I could run ...more

Cold Creek Highway is hazardous...to women. For decades a killer has stalked women who find themselves alone on this road. Locals constantly warn young girls but the killing continues. One local girl that ignores these warnings is a young woman named Hailey McBride. Hailey's father dies suddenly, leaving her an orphan. She is underage and has to move in with her aunt, uncle and cousin. She loves her aunt and cousin but her uncle gives her the creeps. He is strict, harsh, and bossy, none of the t ...more

Chevy Stevens can definitely weave a dark, creepy story. It made me scared to turn off the light after I was done reading. After reading this book you will never drive down a dark country road again without feeling like someone is out there watching you! I loved that Hailey was such a strong, young female character who stood up to people she knew were wrong. Cold Creek was a small town where young girls were mysteriously disappearing. This made the whole town paranoid. People wondered if they we ...more

I am a Chevy Stevens fan and I was looking forward to this one.

Cold Creek Highway seems to be some kind of a Bermuda Triangle where people just constantly disappear (or have been found murdered). Hailey thought it would be an excellent place to “disappear” from a bad living situation. She could not have predicted what would happen next!

Beth is visiting Cold Creek to attend a memorial for the highway murders because her sister was murdered there one year prior. She finds out that secrets are bein

I received a copy of Dark Roads free from Netgalley for review.

Girls have gone missing along the Cold Creek Highway for decades. The girls in Cold Creek have grown up knowing it's not safe to hitchhike on the highway. The story follows the sister of one of the murdered girls. Beth is trying to uncover the truth about her sister's murder. Dark Roads has an atmospheric and sinister vibe. I thought there were some pacing issues bit overall I would recommend this story to readers who enjoy a good t

Creepy enough that I could not read this at night and good enough that I could not stop! There’s a long time serial killer on the loose on a dark deserted highway.....many a girl has gone missing and everyone including the town’s police are on high alert. When 17 year old Hailey loses her parent and has to move in with an aunt and her husband, Vaughn, who is a policeman, she sees that he may not be the protector he should be. CHEVY STEVENS lives on Vancouver Island with her husband and daughter. When she’s not working on her next book, she’s hiking with her two dogs on her favorite mountain trails and spending time with her family. Chevy's current obsessions are vintage airstreams, Hollywood memoirs all things mid-century modern, and stand-up comedians--not necessarily in that order.

Chevy's debut novel, STILL MISSING,
