This is a fantastic extensive manual on developing functional assessments and behavior plans for students in schools. I'd give it 4.5 stars if I could. It is very thorough and does well explaining the most current framework, ethics, and required steps in this line of work.

This book is dense and wordy, but the repeating concepts helps solidify the information. I'm inclined to say this is an exhaustive resource, almost a "bible" for FBA's and BIP's. However, it is likely not an easy read for the everyday person but is a great tool for someone who is a BCBA or studying to be one. While it is primarily focused in behavior analytic research, it would also be a great resource for teachers and school administration specializing in this work and wanting to know more about tier 3 behavior supports.

Some small criticisms. I actually think this book did really well addressing and emphasizing "non-behavioral" concepts, such as the importance of relationship building, emotional regulation and sensory needs. I think there could have been even more of this added, but perhaps there is more needed on the research end.

Lastly, a warning to those looking for practical tips and tricks, this book is much more "big picture" around the framework and oversight for developing and teaming on behavior plans. It doesn't have a lot of quick tips and tricks for supporting students, which is fine. I do feel the book would improve with a greater list of evidence based interventions, especially when related to sensory/automatically maintained behaviors. The example behavior plans were fine but seemed a little too simplified, which make sense given how individualized a real behavior plan ends up being.

Overall it's a great resource, one which I will refer back to and cite for many years in my line of work.
