The Most Beautiful Moment in Life #2

HYYH The Notes 2

Rate this book
Amidst despair from errors and mistakes and a little bit of hope, the journey to find the map of the soul begins.

Perhaps it was inevitable that we return to this place. Everything about us began here. I realized the meaning of being together and the joy of laughing together. Here remains like a gaping wound my first mistake, my first error that I could never admit with my own lips.

Everything up to now couldn't have been coincidence. It was inevitable that I'd arrive here. Only then could I discover my errors and mistakes, and the meaning of the pain and anguish thus caused, and finally take the first step in the search for the map of my soul.

It took me long enough, but I finally finished reading this...

AND WE FINALLY HAVE SOME RESOLUTION TO SEOKJIN'S STORY!!!!!

I was really happy to have so many questions answered. However, the ending definitely brings up so many new questions that it's clear there will be no conclusion to the BU any time soon.

In contrast to the Notes 1, I really liked that the Notes 2 put all of the notes in chronological order and kept everything to one timeline. It made for a much easier read and one that felt more like a novel than disjointed notes. However, I felt the writing and editing of this was much more rushed compared to the last book. There were quite a few errors. A small complaint, but I'd like to see them do better next time before publishing!

When you're finished reading this book, I highly recommend going to watch the BTS Universe Story trailer. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=no2QN...) It makes SO much more sense with the context of the book and almost directly follows the storyline of the Notes 2.

All in all, this is a MUST READ if you're interested in understanding the storyline behind many of BTS's music videos, VCRs, and performances, and I challenge you to read through ALL of it without crying ONE TIME. (It's impossible, I think.)

(look at them, they're so precious. uwu)

If you're new to the Bangtan Univerese, here's the order you should read the storyline:
-Save Me webtoon - The Notes 0
- The Most Beautiful Moment in Life - The Notes 1
- The Most Beautiful Moment in Life - The Notes 2

This book was a wild ride from start to finish. I had so many moments where I had to stop reading just to take a breath.
All the answers I had from the webtoon and Notes 1 were answered, but it definitely left enough for me to want more! I hope there's at least one more book!

Just like with the first book, the writing in this is.. not good. But - it definitely improved! There’s somewhat more depth in the words, idk if that’s because this one’s from a new translator or if the same one just improved, but this book was definitely easier to get through. That being said, I’m not a fan of the story. It was interesting enough in the first book, but as it keeps unfolding, I find myself uninterested in most of it. The characters stay shallow and superficial - I’m saying that while wholeheartedly loving them, when you know you know. I think Hoseok has definitely pulled the longest straw here & that his character development is the most interesting one (so far).

can my yoghurt smoothies yoonkook ever catch a break

actually tho no matter how vile and evil the bu storyline is, i am quite impressed with how well they've spread out this very complex plot over various different mvs and webtoons and games n shit that too over several years im so satisfied with how this book answered most of my questions still curious to find out about the choi kid and how seokjins dad and his hs friends and the whole thing with jungkook in the epilogue is connected in notes 3

also im crying at how armys made a billion theories on why jin hit jk with his car only for him to be like oops hehe it was an accident it has nothing to do with the time loop

this book single-handedly cursed my family and de-watered my crops, oh my god.

never before have i wanted to rewrite a book this bad, not even because of its content (although that's an insult to the hyyh video series all on its own), but because of its emotionless, dry writing style.
the characters acted out of character so much, at the end of the book i didnt even know what their actual characters were anymore.
and, not to dive into the content too much because i WILL simply have to start screaming, the worst thing about this is what they did to jungkook's character. it's completely detached from the mvs and even from who he was the previous book and i feel personally insulted on so many levels.
is there something like reverse character development? because that is what they did to this poor dude.

now to some good points: the writing style has actually improved a bit when you compare it to the first book. some characters did actually get a bit of development as well, although im going to have to dampen the positive mood here again, because all of their developments felt inorganic and forced, except for hoseok's (maybe).

two stars because its still hyyh related and i am Emotionally Attached TM.

will i read the next (and hopefully final, please god) book as well? absolutely. am i already disappointed? oh 100%.

The writing is not much different than the first but there were improvements brought upon the deeper reflections of each of the characters as more secrets unfolded and more of the plot grew.

I find myself being surprised at new information often and it was a pleasant surprise (not to mention aLLLLL THE PAINNNNNNNNNNNNN). I'm happy to find the many inspirations here - from the direct quote from The Art of Loving, to Demian, to The Ones Who Walked Away From Omelas, Kafka On The Shore and the cat reminded me of Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I can also pick out quotes here that I like because of its improved writing in terms of reflections.

Here's a few:

"The question itself was wrong. I didn't have to save us. I didn't have to straighten out all the errors and mistakes neither. / What I had to do was to accept all my errors and mistakes as a part of myself. The one and only person I couldnt save was me, and I had to forgive, accept and love myself. That was the only answer."

"As you cannot put a period at the end of a sentence without a subject, after losing myself, I circled around the same place, unable to take a step forward."

I thoroughly enjoyed this more than the predecessor and I look forward to the next few volumes. I'm also looking forward to watch the live-action drama based on this too to maybe understand more about the plot.

I reccomend re-reading The Notes 1 before reading part 2 if it has been a while since you read it. I had a moment of confusion in the beginning, followed by a realization, and then a greater understanding of the Bangtan Universe, which left me absolutely hooked. Like the first one, I find it a hauntingly beautiful read and I loved the new things revealed and its conclusion. The Notes 2 was just released, but I find myself already waiting for Notes number 3. However long I must wait, I know it will be worth it.

”I was still holding the wildflower in my hand, but now there was no one to give it to.”

“For me, who was always alone, my hyungs were friends, family and teachers. My stories were all the stories of my hyungs and I only existed in a relationship with them.”

“Why is it that a melody only comes to mind after the person who played music with me is no longer with me?”

“But the more I tried to be someone else, the more I was afraid. I wonder if you discovered the real me and was left disappointed. … However, I could not add a period to a sentence that had lost its subject.”

I have had several epiphanies reading this, to say the least, and I can now see their music in an even more loving, tragic, meaningful light.

Finally know what happened to Jimin's character at the Grass Flower Arboretum... 😥

Also think there's gonna be a third book even though most of our questions and plot points got resolved, the ending very much flat out said "something much bigger is about to begin."

I give it four stars only for the few errors and for the open ending. Despite them, I loved it. It really took me back to several years ago when it all began.

As with the first book, I was really impressed by the quality of this sequel. I got a lot of answers to the HYYH storyline and just enough additional questions to keep me wanting more. My rating is 4 stars mostly just for what I assume are translation-related quibbles. Overall, the translation does a fantastic job, but there are minor flow/structure problems occasionally. I blame the English language for not being able to handle the nuances of the book’s original Korean.
I’m so glad we finally got to see a resolution to the time-loop and Seokjin’s part in that. This felt like a very natural place to resolve the story. Also, WE FINALLY FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED AT THAT DANG ARBORETUM. I’ve been theorizing for /literal/ years (and I was pretty accurate in my theories, I gotta say). The mystery surrounding Jungkook and his accident was a fun way to lead in to some new material (and cause me more pain 😭). Somebody please let me adopt him!!! Did he make a new contract with the cat/spirit? And what are the ramifications? I need to know, so hopefully they give us a third book. I just want my seven lads to be happy, or at the very least, alive.

This really seemed like (it should've been) the ending of the story. Everything (but one character) wrapped up pretty nicely. But they obviously didn't want the story to end yet, so they set up that one character to be the possible bad guy in the future. Enjoyed it though! If you like the HYYH storyline I highly recommend reading these two little books.

After reading this one can finally understand what is going on in the music videos. But the story proceeds slowly. There is a lot of suspense in it. Characters are really similar to the actual nature of the members. In the end, the sudden realisation hits that how difficult it is to live together in the time of despair with extremely different personalities.
