Gabe McGinnis loves his job as a commercial fisherman, his bayside cottage at the Jersey shore and his large Italian-Irish family. But there is something missing in his life, something that he both longs for and fears. Because of his past, Gabe has never been intimate with a woman.
Single mom Devan Murray is more than ready to ditch her business suits and hectic lifestyle in New York City and move to the calm beach town of Avalon with her son. They both are in need of a fresh start. But the moment she locks eyes with her sexy new next-door neighbor, she’s feeling anything but calm. Just the sight of him has her wanting things she hasn’t experienced in more years than she cares to admit.
But Gabe conjures up more than just butterflies in Devan’s stomach whenever they are together. She has questions, the kind you are afraid to ask...because the answers you may receive may be too horrific to hear.
Elle Keating is the author of romance books in many different genres including romantic suspense, contemporary romance, paranormal romance, and taboo romance.
Elle grew up in a small suburb in south Jersey, just minutes from Philadelphia. She moved to Pennsylvania but less than two years later, she came running back. Some people call Jersey the Armpit of America, but Elle proudly calls it home and for that reason, you will always find a little bit of Philly and a whole lot of Jersey in her novels.
When Elle isn’t torturing her heroes and heroines (don’t worry, there’s always a happily ever after), she is a public school administrator and enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 children in New Jersey.

There are so many great authors out there just waiting to be discovered. This author made contact and wanted our blog to read it. The blurb was enticing and trust me this is a 5 star must read. A new discovery, a gem.
Gabe is a fisherman for a profession but he as a secret, he’s never been intimate with a women. A childhood trauma that has left him unable to get close to the opposite sex. Devan moves in next door with her son. There is something about her that makes him want to try and get over his fears.
I read this story in a few short hours. It’s so addicting and captivating. I was hooked by this page turner that latched itself to my heart and soul. I loved these amazing characters that called to me. Beautifully written with Ana amazing storyline. Bottomline this is a must read.
Standalone told in a dual POV with an HEA. I strongly recommend this story. I downloaded the previous from this series of standalone.
This is the 6th book in this series and is Gabe and Devan’s story. Devan is a single mom with a son Jack, and they move to a beach town for a fresh start. Gabe is a commercial fisherman who loves his life and his family, and he is great to Devan and Jack when they move in next door. Both of these characters are broken by traumatic pasts, but together they are perfect. This is a beautifully written slow burn story which is an emotional roller coaster throughout, and I was captivated from the start by this riveting tale. I look forward to reading more from this author whose work I recommend for all.
Gabe and Devan’s story was so emotional. They both have such a traumatic past that crippled them in different ways. They have all the odds stacked against them.
I loved the friendship that developed between Gabe, Devan and Jack. The pace of the book felt on par to me up until the ending. That felt rushed to me and I personally felt they deserved a little more time to shine in their HEA.
Overall I love this book even and the author did a wonderful job conveying Gabe’s story.
I fell in love with this cover and title. It is absolutely swoon-worthy. I can so see Gabe in this cover and not only a hot man but a broken and anguished man. Now I am not through gushing! I also fell in love with not only Gabe in the book, but I also loved Devan which is rare for me to bond so well with a female character. She is the perfect amount of tough, but still female and soft too. I loved her and Jack's story. Now back to Gabe. I loved his story as well. He is the perfect broken man. He is not all soft and like a victim. He is great with Jack and also Devan and I liked the slow burn. Now this is a book six in this series but perfectly written so it works as a standalone. Elle Keating gives just enough backstory to each of the characters as they are introduced as you know them, get a hint of their story ( and want to read their story) Well-done. If you love broken men, seaside stories, strong women, single moms, The cutest kid ever, fishermen, a realistic romance, and slow burn. you will love this one... Now let me go see about getting and making time for the first 5!
This is book number six in the Beneath The Broken series. I read it as a standalone and was able to follow along perfectly fine. I will admit that I am going to go back and read the other books in the series. I wish I had before because I would have maybe had a feel of what I was going to be reading. Though that did not take away from the book form me. This book is well written and may have some triggers for some. This book was not at all what I expected. The roles are reversed.
This book. UGH!! Devan is a single mom raising a seven-year-old and has come home to be close to her family. Devan was raising her son in New York but wanted the peaceful beach town that her family used to vacation in. Her son was being bullied and the change was welcome.
Gabe’s story is sad. He is a great guy but he can’t stop the nightmares. Even though his brothers have moved on or are trying it is not working for him and he doesn’t want a relationship. Gabe is broken and keeps a distance from all except his family but he forms a bond and friendship with Jack, Devan’s son.
These two meet as next-door neighbors whole playing catch and Devan breaks Gabe’s window. She has an attraction to him right away and Gabe does as well. Gabe is great for Jack. He is another man in his life besides his uncle, Max.
I loved reading the progression in seeing how much they all grew, especially Jack and Gabe. Just when he gets a little to close for comfort with Devan he takes his long fishing trip as a commercial fisherman. There is just the right amount of drama and friendship, well everything to make this book work. I loved the family members they bring more to the story and we see their growth as well.
I can’t wait to read the next book in the series. It is Gabe’s twin brother. I just would have liked this book to be a bit longer. It leaves us with a bit of a cliffhanger with what is to come.
After living city life for years now single mom Devan Murray is ready for a change, something quieter, more peaceful, and less public. So she settles on a little beach town called Avalon hoping it will give her the life her and her son have been craving. It's a new start where no one knows her, and there no reminders of her tragic past... it's perfect.
Then she meets her new neighbor and suddenly it becomes even more perfect...Gabe McGinnis is everything she wants, but is too afraid to go after. Or is she?
Beneath the Broken is a beautifully penned story of new beginnings, finding love, and letting go of the past. These two broken souls meet and have an instant attraction to one another, but getting past that is the hard part, Gabe is hesitant to get close to anyone, and Devan hasn't had a man in her life for many years. Their meeting is the start of something beautiful, together they grow, heal, and find something in one another they never knew they needed. It was a perfect romance! I enjoyed every single second of this one, it squeezed my heart in all the right places, and left a smile on my face... and it doesn't get any better than that in my book! Highly recommend this one, it's characters are bound to steal your heart from the very first page!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Gabe is a man who loves his life of being a commercial fisherman, and comes from a big family who he loves a ton, but there's something missing in his life. He has quite the emotionally charged painful past which keeps him from actually pursuing any woman so there is loneliness. Devan is a single mom who leaves a big city for a slower fresh start with her son, and she also has a painful past. However, it seems like fate decided to get involved with these two, as she ends up his neighbor, and they become friends with chemistry of the slow burn variety. This story was so emotional that I really had to keep my leaky eyes in check because they wanted to go rogue throughout. Elle Keating penned a beautiful story that I couldn't get enough of, and you won't either after you hit those one click buttons! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ALL!
4.5 Stars This book had me at single mom and I'm so glad I did read this one. It's emotionally powerful. Both Devan and Gabe have traumatic pasts. My heart broke for Devan and Jack. How he came into the world is so heart wrenching. Then Gabe is going to break your heart because of his childhood. It makes you root for him to get a HEA that he so deserves. The scenes with Gabe and Jack are some of my favorite moments in the book. It made heart so happy to see how close Gabe is with his family. They are a solid support system. This book is going to suck you right in and you won't want to come up for air. For the journey these characters it's all the more sweeter how the ending is. The epilogue left me with a huge smile on my face for Gabe and Devan, but looks like trouble is on the horizon for Gabe's twin.
Thank you to the publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
4.8 Stars
First of all, the cover and the story matches so much. This is the first time for me reading Elle Keating, won't be the last for sure. How Gabe was written in this story completely reflected on the cover, a man with a broken story inside him. On the other hand, single mom, Devan is also a beautifully written character.
I love how the story goes and went. Highly recommended if you are looking for some beautiful broken love story.
Gabe meets his new neighbor Devan but his past won't let him have what he really wants and that is her and her son. I loved this story and when I read what Gabe and his brothers went through as children broke my heart. Devan didn't have the best past either but she is a strong woman and is making a life for her and Jack. Jack just melted my heart, such a sweet boy. This is one book I will read again and again. LOVED IT!!!
Another beautiful insight into these gorgeous damaged boys. I missed interactions with the family, there wasn't much, but nonetheless, lovely read. I would have loved more romance between Gabe and Devan, instead Gabe's secret only came out in the last chapter and suddenly Jake was calling him Dad. I can't give Gabe's story less stars than the others as they were all part of the big picture, they all suffered together, they all deserve the same recognition.
