This debut graphic novel by long-time cartoonist and sock-wrangler Kev F Sutherland is brilliant fun, the odd murder or three notwithstanding. I certainly found that it helped to be a Shakespeare fan, and the graphics resonated enjoyably with me as a child of the 70’s. Even setting these happy harmonies aside, the visuals are energetic and the text not totally Shakespearian, but interspersed with some modern idiom and a wee bit of Scots. Thoroughly recommended for fans of Shakespeare, graphic novels, Scots, and strong noir-ish imagery.

Interessantes Setting mit einem Twist
Der Comic hat natürlich bereits die Probleme des Originals. MacBeths unlogische Mörderserie, die in einem 1970er Industriebetrieb jetzt nicht wirklich logischer wird.
Andererseits sind einige der Probleme des Originals gut aufgelöst. Die Hexen/Sekretärinnen sind eine gelungene Interpretation und wie der Wald sich bewegt durchaus besser als im Original.
Anders als im Manga Shakespeare sind hier nur teilweise Originalzitate eingebaut, vor allem, wenn die Figuren ihren Gedanken nachhängen. Meist reden sie normales Englisch mit Irischen? Dialekteinfärbungen (da hätte ich mir Fußnoten gewünscht).
Das Setting ist somit stimmig, innovativ und gibt der Geschichte noch ein paar kleine neue Twists.
Der Druck ist aber ein wenig pixelig, man merkt, dass es Digitaldruck ist. Der Zeichenstil ist Geschmackssacke.
Schön ist, dass bei diesem Comic der Shakespeare Originaltext im Anhang zu finden ist mit Bildern des Comics zwischendurch, um die Orientierung zu erleichtern. So kann man, sollte man das Stück nicht kennen, erst mal das Original lesen.

This debut graphic novel was published in 2020; the first in a trilogy it is followed by The Prince of Denmark Street & The Midsummer Night’s Dream Team. If you normally shy away from Shakespeare, I advise you not to miss this enjoyable, funny & page turning take on the Scottish play.

Very enjoyable version of Macbeth transferred to 70s office politics. All of Billy Shakespeare's most famous lines are in this, as well as lots of corny jokes and the spirit of the original. A fun re-imagining.
