Manipulator. Killer. A time-bomb waiting to explode...
Just weeks away from giving birth, New York prosecutor Amelia Kellaway is about to interview Oregon serial killer, Rex Hawkins, a man who has tormented her for years. Amelia has no other option—Rex insists she hears his confession otherwise he’ll take the details of the string of rapes and murders he’s committed to his grave.
Truth be told, Amelia wants to do it. She wants to show Rex Hawkins she’s no longer the same person he victimized all those years ago. She’s stronger now, braver, smarter and she’s determined to get him to tell her everything he knows. But is Amelia underestimating Rex? What underlies all his talk of redemption and seeking forgiveness? Could he be planning something? And if so, what? As Amelia’s due date gets closer and the pressure mounts, events spiral out of control, thrusting both her and Rex onto a devastating final trajectory in which only one of them survives.

Just weeks away from giving birth, New York prosecutor Amelia Kellaway is about to interview Oregon serial killer, Rex Hawkins, a man who has tormented her for years. Amelia has no other option: Rex insists she hears his confession otherwise he'll take the details of the string of rapes and murders he's committed to his grave.

But is Amelia underestimating Rex? What underlies all his talk of redemption and seeking forgiveness? Could he be planning something? And if so, what? Speak for Me is a thrilling conclusion to the Amelia Kellaway series! It opens two years after the events from Coming For You. Amelia is now married to Ethan, and she has a baby on the way. Rex Harrison, the serial killer who left her for dead, is behind bars. But it’s known that he killed many more women, and as part of a plea bargain to avoid the death penalty, he is planning to confess and tell the officials where the bodies are located. The catch? He’ll only talk to Amelia Kellaway.
This book is a little longer than the first two in the trilogy, but it’s just as jam-packed with action. I absolutely loved the mind games and psychology talk--particularly when Amelia was preparing to interview Rex and learning tips. For instance, she was told to maintain eye contact unless she thought he was being deceptive, then she should break eye contact so he’ll try to reel her back in. As a possibly psychopathic serial killer, he would try to see what he could get away with.
The intensity from the first two books is nearly tripled because the stakes are higher. Sure, she isn’t left for dead in the wilderness, but this time it isn’t just herself that she has to worry about. She’s pregnant, and her pregnancy is anything but smooth.
Unlike the first two books, in Speak for Me we get scenes from Rex’s point of view. This gives the reader much needed insight into his thought processes, as well as what’s going on in the prison. What are his motivations? Is he really reformed, as he claims to be?
At the risk of giving too much away, I’ll stop there. But I do want to emphasize that this novel is a pulse-pounding conclusion to the trilogy.
Prosecutor Amelia Kellaway, although just weeks away from giving birth, agrees to interview serial killer, Rex Hawkins. Rex insists she hears his confession otherwise he’ll take the details of the string of rapes and murders he’s committed to his grave.
Amelia was his last victim ... the only one to survive.
Rex says he has found God in prison, and wants a chance for redemption. He says he's sorry for the victims he took and their families. Is he on the level ... or is there something else that he's planning?
Events spin out of control creating chaos and havoc .... and more deaths.
This thriller is loaded from start to finish with page turning action and suspense. The plot is skillfully written with deftly drawn characters. Although this is 3rd in the series, it is easily read as a stand alone. I do recommend reading them in order because Amelia is such a compelling figure.
The fact that Amelia, so close to delivery, was allowed to run around a forest .... be involved in physical fights, etc. Not so credible in my opinion. I did drop the rating to 4.5.
Many thanks to the author / Lawson Publishing / Netgalley for the digital copy of this psychological suspense. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
Welcome back, Amelia! This is the Amelia I remember from book #1 in this series! I really enjoyed Speak for Me. In this third installment, Amelia is put in the position of interviewing Rex, her abductor and rapist, in hopes that he will give the details of his past victims. Amelia really wants to help the victims' families heal.
Did I mention Amelia is married and VERY pregnant? She is weeks away from giving birth. Compound the stress of impending motherhood and the task of mediating days long interviews with Rex, we have to wonder if Amelia, her marriage, and her baby will come out of this ok. You're gonna have to read it to find out :).
I must admit that I was angry with myself for feeling the slightest bit of compassion for Rex. I remember Amelia saying more than once in book #1 that Rex was charismatic. The author managed to successfully drive that point home in Speak for Me. At one point I had to mentally slap myself for thinking that Rex had endeared himself to me. This just speaks to how great a job Rogers did in weaving a story with excellently developed characters. Speaking of characters...I would love to see what's next for Detective Novak. He gave me some LOL moments.
I'm excited to have finished this series. I look forward to reading more from this author.
...and that may be the biggest understatement of the year.
Under 2 hours ago I purchased Speak For Me, straight after finishing Coming For You, as I needed to know what happened next after the cliff hanger of an ending. To say I have just been gripped and had to binge read without moving a muscle until I reached the other end, it was like I was a woman possessed.
This is one impressive trilogy that will mess with your head, I have no clue how I'm meant to sleep this evening, What an ending, just don't ask me whether it can be read as a standalone as I'm not positive I even had that thought.
I just needed to know whether Amelia would be able to get justice or at least closure for the families of Rex's victims.
I have enjoyed seeing how Amelia's character has developed over the course of the books, from where she started book 2 to where she ends this one that is some growth in all manners of her life, which all stem from the dramatic events of book 1.
I do love a multi book villain and Rex Hawkins is disgustingly despicable, and a man I had great pleasure in hating. Although you almost see another side to him at times, it's hard to know just who was being manipulated.
This is the last in the series about Amelia Kellaway and I am going to miss these books.
Amelia is expecting her first child, but she is still working as a lawyer in the prosecutor's office.. Her husband, Ethan is a dectective. Amelia has been contacted to talk with serial killer, Rex Hawkins. For an exchange for the information where Rex buried at least 20 of his victims, he wants to avoid the death penalty. The only catch is that Rex will not talk to anyone by Amelia.
Ethan wants Amelia to stay close to home as their child could be born any day, but Amelia feels the need to find out where the victims are buried for the sake of the families.
Why is Rex only wanting to speak with Amelia? Will he be willing to share all his secrets to save his life or is he just lying?
What A beautiful. story! You really have to read the series in order. A fantastic story about murder and a woman trying to adjust the perils of a chance to adjust from the past and find a new life for herself. What is it that would let her love and live a normal life? Is she crazy? Why does she see the man who is trying to kill her no matter how she tries to forget the past?? I
'Speak for Me' was a pretty intense story. Well written and well played out. Intriguing storyline, thrilling scenarios and some interesting characters. I wanted to despise Rex. But the way the author humanized him, there was a fine line between compassion and rage. I don't admire him, but I did sympathize with the overall situation. I like when an author can bring about many emotions. A great add to your tbr list. Definitely a series, 'Amelia Kellaway Series', to read. Recommended.
RANT: This book passed through the hands of too many professionals for there to be so many typos in the final printing! Who let that happen? 😒 I lost count on how many there were, and after every single one I lost interest in the story just a little bit more. They were distracting and I couldn’t take it serious anymore. Luckily, all 3 books in this ‘series’ were very short and did not take too much of my time.
The story itself had potential, but unfortunately it did not come together well.
(SPOILER ALERT)~I liked the book, particularly the ending. It was nice to see a softer side to Amelia. Many of Ms. Rogers books aren't exactly "feel good" stories but are not expected to be in the thriller genre. So I enjoyed a happy ending for a change!
Amelia and Rex have a curious relationship. There are many psychological twists. Deborah Roger’s keeps this story moving. There are new characters added throughout the book , all adding to the believability of the plot. If you enjoy suspense, grab a copy and begin reading.
The storyline was not what I expected but man did it deliver. The writing was excellent and the descriptions of certain parts of the book were amazing. This author is so smart, she kept me up all night so engrossed in the story. Truly a must read!!
This was a fast read, because it was hard to put down. The main character is a strong and intelligent woman, the bad guy was a strange mix of evil and hope. If you like mysteries, read this book!
I enjoyed this book and for me that says a lot. You get this feeling throughout that something bad is going to happen. So does it? You gotta read the book to find out. I recommend it!
This story kept you guessing until the end. So much drama and intrigue. Can't believe all the chances the main character took with her being pregnant and all. The death of the killer was sort of predictable. Good read!
This book is a great read! I love this series. I wish there where more books in this series. It keeps you on the edge of your seat. I could not put it down.
These two were connected to the end. However, I can't imagine a pregnant woman willingly and willfully putting herself and her unborn child in such peril.
I enjoyed this book the most out of the three book series. I felt there was more action and drama in this one. Amelia and Rex have a final showdown that is a killer.
Overall, I enjoyed Speak for Me. The extremes that Amelia goes to get the bad guy, I found very hard to swallow. No regard for ANYTHING. Otherwise, a good read.
SPEAK FOR ME BY DEBORAH ROGERS IS A MUST BUY, ON SALE JULY 31, 2020. COME ONE, COME ALL TO BE INVOLVED IN THIS CHAT ABOUT THIS AWESOME BOOK. SORRY I CAN'T CUT AND PASTE BUT LOOK UP DEBORAH ROGERS AND IT HAS IT ON HER REVIEW!
Newly pregnant prosecutor Amelie Fox is the only one serial killer and rapist, Rex Owens, will talk to about how he has done the crimes, and more importantly where he's left the bodies of the women he has killed and raped. Sort of reminiscent of Hannibal Lecter, but these girls are already gone and if Amelie doesn't speak to her and his request to speak for her alone, these girls may never be found, and he will take all his dirty, nasty secrets to his grave.
Deciding she owes these families something of the dead victims, she gives in only to find out is he playing a sick and sordid game with her, or is he wanting to get these rapes and murders off his chest? Look for Deborah Rogers and their is an Amazon site to purchase this book, and Also a website for Goodreads readers to ask her questions and thoughts on writing this book. FANTASTIC!!!!!5 STARS!
Amelia is married and just weeks away from giving birth. Serial killer, Rex Hawkins is in jail in Oregon and will only give his confession to Amelia. Amelia has no other option—Rex insists she hears his confession otherwise he’ll take the details of the rapes and murders he’s committed to his grave. Deep down she really wants to do this to show Rex how much she's changed from being the victim to being the smart and brave woman that she is today. What is the real reason that he wants to see Amelia again - does he have a plan to do harm to her again or has he truly found religion in jail? As Amelia's due date gets closer, the tension continues to rise until Amelia's worst fears are realized. Will she be able to survive this time?
Book 3 in the series is another roller coaster ride for the reader. The only thing that I didn't like about this book is that Amelia took a lot of chances so late in her pregnancy and didn't seem concerned about the baby but maybe that was due to the psychological effect that Rex had on her mind.
Make sure you are in a comfy chair, have the phone turned off and have informed everyone not to disturb you because once you start reading this book you do not want to be interrupted and have to take a break. The only moving I did whilst reading this book was from the edge of my seat and back again. I was turning the pages and I couldn’t read this fast enough, I was completely consumed by this story. Oh, did I mention I enjoyed reading this book!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Speak for Me is the third book in the Amelia Kellaway series and is an engaging read.
This is the first book I have read by this author and I enjoyed reading this thriller. It is well written and has interesting characters, a good storyline, intrigue, evil, and suspense.
I really enjoyed part 3 of this series thought it was well written and had enough twists and turns that kept me interested through out the book looking forward to see what happens next
