This was a really cool debut fantasy! I absolutely adored the world and how it was brimming with Hindu culture. It was super vibrant and whimsical and just came to life. There were a lot of elements I really enjoyed about the story overall. I found the stars to be fascinating, the star hunting aspect, and the competition and how it played out, and how the competition centred around art and the stars as muses. I had very high expectations for Star Daughter thanks to its magnificent Charlie Bowater cover, which in retrospect was probably not the wisest idea on my part. Contemporary fantasy is not my go-to, and definitely not my preferred subgenre of fantasy, given my general dislike of contemporaries. However, the contemporary aspect was not what I didn’t enjoy about this read.
