I loved this so much! From the moment I read the blurb I knew I had to read this and I'm delighted to say I was right - and it is fab!

Elliot owns and reports for Weird News along with his employee, Samantha.  Always on the look out for weird, supernatural things to write about, Elliot is intrigued when an unexplained death happens near his office.  But as this is followed by another, he realises there's more to these deaths that first thought.  On the hunt to find out more, he finds himself witness to something unexplainable, giving him the kick he needs to delve deeper.

What he discovers is beyond comprehension, and leads to him and Sam being sucked into a world of demon hunting, hidden libraries, intriguing characters, secrets and more....

Honestly, this is fantastic!! If you're a fan of supernatural thrillers then you need to check this out!  Although this is a long book, I was engrossed all the way through and didn't want to put it down.....still wanting more when I came to the end!

I loved all the characters, each with their own back story which we come to learn.  I thoroughly enjoyed the fact that there is a bit of a romance in this too, which had me really wanting to see two of our characters get together!  Gabriel and Liam are both fantastic, and I'm sure there's much more for us to learn about them in coming books (eeek!).  The Mime is such a brilliant character; creepy and evil as hell.....

Harrison has done a superb job of bringing us some imaginative, strange and intriguing deaths caused by the Mime and his invisible weapons!  I literally had no clue what death would happen next, and Harrison continuously surprised me and blew my mind throughout.  There are some absolutely brilliant twists in this; some I had a slight suspicion of and others were completely out of the blue.

The whole plot is just truly fantastic, intriguing, mind blowing and gripping - you can't not be sucked into this book.  The settings are creepy; secret libraries, crypts, ruins and more; and Harrison describes everything wonderfully, allowing you to play the whole story out in your minds eye.  This book would make a fantastic horror movie; one that I would definitely watch!

Honestly, if you're looking for your next supernatural read full of unexplainable deaths, demons, secrets and portals to hell, that will keep you completely engaged and on the edge of your seat, then check this out! Horror and supernatural fans will love this.  Highly recommended by me.  I can't wait to see what the next book in the series brings us!!

This was such an addictive read I was staying up late to finish and I regret nothing! A fascinating murder mystery broadens to cover a sinister Mime with both vast powers and an nasty sense of humour. Very creative and well structured with great characters to fear or root for

This supernatural thriller has it all. Action, intrigue, mystery, curses, priests, serial killers, and even a little romance. In author Chrissey Harrison's capable hands, it all threads together to create a story with characters you will care about and a villain who is chilling even though it can't speak. Elliot Cross is a reporter for Weird News and when he and his photographer, Samantha, come across a case of human combustion, it leads them to a series of killings more sinister than the next. By the time they realize the killer is not only otherwordly but also hunting them, they're on a path that will not only change their lives forever but reveal mysteries and truths about their own pasts that they'll have to face to survive. Highly recommended if you love books with supernatural elements, demons, family secrets, and thrilling climaxes.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! A supernatural thriller jam packed full of action.

Chrissey’s writing style is very easy to read, and despite the book being quite the door stopper, I found I flew through it really quickly. The characters were all very well written, each had enough of their own story so the reader can get behind them. The story flowed really well, and the flashback scenes were cleverly done.

I can see this book working well as a film! Looking forward to seeing where the Weird News story goes in the future.

I loved this story!!

The plot for this story was spot on and I loved the pace of the story - it was an additive read that was full of suspenses and I loved that I did not know what was going to happen next!  The book is quite a longer one than some that I do read but it was packed with detail that helped bring the story to life, I was going to give the book 4.5 stars and then the final quarter of the book happened - and it is definitely 5 stars!!

In quite a lot of the books that I read the plot ends up being a little predictable but this one had plenty to keep me on my toes and guessing - and that for me made it so enjoyable - I do love a good horror and this was definitely that!

The characters were brilliant, well developed and the different personalities worked really well together, the characterisation was completely on point - I thought that it was fantastic - it is 5 stars from me for this one, I loved it - very highly recommended!!

I knew that this was going to be a treat to read when I decided to back this book on KickStarter. Oh boy, I do not regret doing so at all! This story was so well written and put together, that it was honestly very refreshing and rewarding! I feel that the concept of the mime doing what it does was very ordinal and I don't recall ever reading it watching anything like it! The plot and the characters were great and fun to experience! I have Even though it can be considered "standalone", I can hope and see this becoming a start of duology, trilogy, or a multi book series! If this genre is your cup of tea, then I wholeheartedly recommend this book to read!

Wow, let’s just get straight to my rating before we move on to the book! I was going to give this book 4 stars BUT the further I read on and the ending … well it just HAS to be 5 ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ from me! The reason I was planning on a 4 because after the immediate action in the beginning it did slow down a little! HOWEVER this is a 500 page book and after this one slower little section it picked right up, and not only did it pick up…. it literally got MORE AND MORE crazy, dangerous and action packed!

I absolutely LOVED this book it’s like a supernatural thriller with a hint of romance! 3 of my favourite things perfectly fitted together! The Mime demon, the murder he commits and the mind games and the thrill of the chase, and watching a romance progress! What more could you ask for?

Now my favourite part of this book is definitely the idea of the Mime demon, the murders he commits are INSANE!!!!! Like how do these authors come up with such imaginative murders and ideas!! These murders had me gob smacked and I found them sooo EXCITING and just blooming brilliant! Seeings this book is based around this demon character well it was obvious it was just going to be awesome from there!

The thrill of the chase did slow at one point, but then when the real chase begins the action just picks up so quickly and progresses in to a jaw dropping climax! I loved the fact the demon was chasing the main characters down but the main characters were chasing the demon down at the same time! It was a matter of who was going to succeed first!

Now I haven’t talked too much about the story line and how it starts etc because you really need to enjoy it! I’m not going to talk about what murders take place, because you need the element of shock and suprise!

So.. let’s talk about SOME of the characters, there are a few so I won’t talk about them all, but it’s REALLY easy to follow!

Elliot is the MAIN character along with the demon! Elliot owns a weird news business that reports on weird and supernatural news! He suffered a loss that hit him hard and moved away! Weird news is his life and he is overly dedicated! I LOVED Elliots character, I really felt for him battling his own feelings! He was so incredibly hard on himself and went on a real deep journey of self discovery, he finds so many secrets along the way and finds out so much about himself!

Sam is Elliots colleague, she takes pictures and reports for weird news! Sam found Elliot after she suffered a strange and traumatising event and it brought them to work together! Sam is so understanding and also learns so much about herself along the way! She is so so brave and so incredibly likeable!

Liam, now Liam is actually quite funny! He has a GREAT sense of humour, is very flirty and is an incredibly strong character who managed to lighten the book quite a bit! I really enjoyed this character as it broke up the really dark parts for me! I enjoyed his humour and how light hearted he was!

Gabriel is the last character I’m going to talk about! He is religious and has his own dark secrets, he has his own experiences with evil and is so helpful in this storyline! I enjoyed how he talked, it some how was so religious or old style language and completely different to the other characters!

ALL of the characters minus the Mime demon are likeable, strong, brave, determined, supportive and they create a great network and I really liked that about this book, there were no characters that I even slightly disliked! They all had their own journeys, secrets and paths to go down and each was easy to follow!

Over all an explosive beginning, a slower paced build up which SUDDENLY leads to an exciting fast paced chase against the clock!

Who will win? Who will live? And who will die? ….and can you even predict how crazy the murders are from reading this review?

Honestly pick up this book and invest your time! I’m so glad I did! I feel like the author has left the ending open for more.. maybe that or I’m just soo hopeful as I’d love more from this author… what supernatural demon could she create next? The bar has been set so high 😀

Congratulations to this author, you can really tell the time she has invested and the work she has put in has paid off!

Thank you for this amazing opportunity!

Couldn't put down! I need more!!!

Prepare to Be Terrified by a Demonic Mime!
Step right up, if you dare, into a world where the invisible becomes fatally real and monsters lurk in the most unexpected corners. In this pulse-pounding supernatural thriller, we meet Elliot Cross, a man whose disbelief in monsters shattered the day his brother fell victim to something unnatural. Four years later, as a string of inexplicable deaths leaves law enforcement scratching their heads, Elliot, a journalist driven by a thirst to expose the supernatural, sees his chance to make a difference.
With the help of his sole employee, Samantha, Elliot quickly uncovers the terrifying truth: the culprit is a demonic mime artist whose invisible creations manifest with deadly force. Yes, you read that right—a mime! It’s a uniquely chilling premise that will have you second-guessing every silent gesture.
Out of his depth and facing an enemy he can barely comprehend, Elliot's only hope lies with the legendary demon hunter, Gabriel Cushing. But finding Gabriel is just the first hurdle in a desperate race against time. Their quest to stop the demon forever propels Elliot and Sam on a cross-country journey, unearthing forgotten histories, buried secrets, and surprising truths about themselves along the way.
This book delivers on all fronts: the suspense is palpable, the action relentless, and the stakes couldn't be higher. The concept of a demonic mime is brilliantly unsettling, adding a fresh and genuinely terrifying twist to the supernatural genre. Elliot and Sam are a compelling duo, their evolving relationship adding heart to the high-octane adventure. If you're looking for a read that will keep you on the edge of your seat, questioning what's real, and thoroughly entertained, then dive into this one. Just be careful what you imagine!

I was intrigued by this one from the go – it’s right up my street. And, I’m incredibly happy to say, I wasn’t disappointed!

Mime starts with a suspension of disbelief; an impossible death that the police just don’t understand. But Elliot does. Elliot and his co-worker, Sam, have both been touched by the supernatural in the past, and have pretty much only each other believing. Producing their underground magazine, Weird News, they are on the lookout for the supernatural, the unexplained and the just plain odd.

When one impossible death is followed by a second then a third, they understand something the police don’t. With eyes open, they race from Bristol to Oxford to Cornwall to stop an entity that’s plagued generations.

I raced through this one. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Actually had to message the author and pass on my congratulations!

The writing is clean, precise and unrambling. The edit is bang on (Well done, Jo!), and I can’t think of a single thing I would change – hence the rating!

Chrissey Harrison presents us with engaging characters with depth and backstories, a devilish antagonist who kills with malevolent glee, and a plot that twists delightfully. Mime contains everything you’d want in an urban supernatural; freaky deaths, subversive undercurrents, secret rooms full of books, demon hunters… And, since it looks like this is part of a series, I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more from Chrissey Harrison. Yes, Mime is that good.

If you’re a fan of the supernatural, or if you’re willing to open your mind to the inexplicable, Mime is for you.

I knew when I saw this cover that Mime was a book I had to read. And this is a case where the cover and what lies between it are both great. And it seems like it's the start of a new series so now I'll be looking forward to the next installment.

Elliot Cross and his employee Samantha publish a monthly paper called Weird News. Because of things that have happened in their past, they have dedicated their lives to debunking or assisting with unnatural cases. When the book opens, a string of deaths in Bristol have the police baffled and even though they appear to have no connection, Elliot and Sam soon discover otherwise. Before they know it, not only are they trying to catch a demonic mime artist who uses quite unique ways to kill his prey, but they are also running for their lives.

This book has it all. Action, excitement, demons, complex characters, and intriguing backstory and even a hint of romance. I feel in love with the tale immediately and it didn't even seem like I was reading a book over 500 pages. Harrison weaves in historical elements with a current time frame to keep the reader completely involved. In addition, I have always found mimes a tad terrifying and this book definitely solidified that fear. I can't wait to see what Harrison has in store for Weird News next!

Hugely enjoyed this book!

If you're fan of anything from Buffy, to Supernatural, to the Otherworld books, or even supernatural horror films you should find something to enjoy here. This is a world of hidden monsters, forgotten pasts, forbidden secrets, and dusty libraries where occult knowledge lies locked away. This contrasts nicely with the very grounded lives and aspirations of the central characters who are drawn into investigating several unexplained deaths.

The titular Mime is a fantastic villain, blending elements of the carnival with the grotesque. When the Mime is around the book veers closer to the horror, especially in a very effective sequence featuring an invisible swarm of creatures. The book has enough of these moments to appeal to a horror reader, whilst not dwelling on it too much for readers interested more in the supernatural investigation side of things.

It's this balance between the gothic, and the contemporary horror that helps make the book so well. Add to that well drawn, realistic characters, and this is definitely one to read.

I won this book in a draw by the author, and it's my first venture into paranormal. As I like magical realism, I guess it was no surprise that I enjoyed Mime. Both Elliot and Samantha are dealing with their personal demons, and also struggling to maintain a proper employer/employee relationship, when the Mime - a real demon - enters their lives. It conveniently turns up whenever Elliot is looking for it - and when he's not - but it takes some time for him to understand just why. In order to stop the Mime's killing spree, Elliot and Sam call on a demon hunter, a young doctor with an interest in these things, a priest and an academic expert. There's plenty of pace as they race against the clock and across SW England, to work out how the demon can be destroyed. And against this fast, intricate plot, there's also the unfolding of the real and deep attraction between the two main protganists.

Chrissey Harrison is an excellent writer who's easy to read, as well as keeping the reader engaged following the clues and the ups and downs of what turns out to be a real crusade.

Overall this book, following a group of demon-hunters as they chase a mime artist demon who can create invisible weapons out of thin air, is a fun read with a fairly satisfying ending that ties in most of the plot points. The idea of invisible weapons is an interesting one, and it was fun to imagine the scene as it was playing out. Fantasy readers who enjoy a bit of gore will love this, I'm sure. However, parts of the book seemed to drag - what is, in essence, a one-track plot got lost inside irrelevant sub-plots that came across as slightly forced. For example, the budding romance between the two main characters added nothing to the plot, and in fact got in the way of the demon-hunting at times. Furthermore, there seemed to be one - or two - too many 'failed attempts'; after a while, there are only so many ways they can approach killing a demon before it gets repetitive. Nevertheless, if you're looking for a fun, slightly gruesome, but on the whole easy read, this might be for you.

Mime by Chrissey Harrison is a gripping and inventive supernatural thriller that blends horror, suspense, and darkly imaginative storytelling. Following Elliot Cross, a journalist driven to uncover the truth behind a series of impossible deaths, the novel pits him against a demonic mime artist whose invisible creations are fatally real.

Harrison expertly builds tension and suspense over 520 pages, balancing eerie supernatural elements with compelling character development. The journey spans the country, uncovering lost history, buried secrets, and deep personal revelations for the characters. What makes this novel stand out is the clever interplay between horror and human emotion Elliot’s grief, determination, and moral choices keep the story grounded even amid the supernatural chaos.

Fans of horror, supernatural thrillers, and inventive dark fiction will find Mime a thoroughly absorbing and unforgettable read.

One of the best debut novels I have had the pleasure to read. Chrissey Harrison weaves a fascinating tale of a supernatural killer committing a string of seemingly impossible deaths. Reporter Elliot Cross and his assistant Samantha take on the hunt for the killer with an unknown dark secret in Elliots past. Joined by allies along the way, including a crossover with another comic/webseries caharacter, they endeavour to track the killer down with a countdown against them. My reading was given extra life as i had backed the Enhanced Reading version of the book on Kickstarter which gave me a box full of supplementary materials such as photographs, maps and consumable items to give an interactive experience reading along. Highly recommended.

I count on Goodreads reviews and ratings for my voracious reading habit, and I guess I missed that this is a Young Adult level book; I bailed after 120 pages or so. The last couple books I read were so writerly and rich and engrossing that this felt like a considerable step down in quality of both writing and story-telling, I just don't care what the demon mime does or how these characters develop feelings for each other while they chase it down, I am sure for lots of people it is entertaining but for me it seemed a rather brainless waste of time, so it goes and so do I.

The idea of this book, Mime, was an interesting one... However, I found it quite difficult to get into at parts as it slowed down in pace and often times nothing happened. Unfortunately, this is not a book for me.

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC. All opinions are my own.

I found this took quite some to time to get into. I’d say I was a good quarter way in before it started grabbing me.

But I did eventually get invested in the characters and story line.

In the end it is worth reading if you can stick with it in the beginning

Elliot is a journalist, he runs Weird News and investigates the odd and unexplained with the help of his assistant, Sam.

Sam has a bit of a thing for Elliot, and so she keeps an eye on him, making sure he eats, sleeps and takes care of himself. Elliot is a damaged man, dealing with the grief and feelings of guilt after the death of his brother.

A recent spate of odd deaths, an invisible bullet, drowning on dry land and more, these come to Elliot and Sam’s attention and so they begin to investigate, but they end up in danger too, as the Mime knows who they are!

Mime is a supernatural horror that’s gripping from start to finish, with creepy gruesome deaths, demons and a portal to Hell, this really is a goosebumpy read. I can thoroughly recommend it to anyone who loves a dark, supernatural horror.

Thank you to Anne Cater and Random Things Tours for the opportunity to participate in this blog tour, for the promotional materials and an eARC of the book. This is my honest, unbiased review.
