Micah Vehyl considers himself an “opportunist.” Living in the underground city of Tartarus, he’s not misguided by the ideals of the esteemed and noble government, nor by the promise of rehoming and freedom on the surface. In a world where homosexuality is considered punishable by death, and only the rich and healthy are able to see the light of day, Micah has made a living ...more

I've been in a slump since the pandemic hit. Every book I've attempted to read since has been a dnf.

Garden of Eden (The Elysian Chronicles book 1) has been the first book that I've completed in months and it was a 5 star read for me.

I'd pre-ordered this book to show my support (I have a soft spot for debut authors), and my intention was to get to it "one day."

Out of curiosity, I took a peek inside and was hit with a first paragraph that sucked me in, and I could not put it down.

I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this book so I could read it early. When I first opened it, I figured I’d read a few pages before bed, but I got sucked into this intriguing world. Before I realized it, I was 100 pages in and knew I was going to be tired the next day! The author did a good job revealing bits and pieces of the setting – a dystopian island – and the differences between the society on the surface and the underworld, which is a shady world of criminals and castaways, as well as l ...more

I received an ARC for this novel about a week ago and breezed through it. For this being a debut novel, I was really surprised at how fleshed out and well written it is. The sex scenes are ON FIRE—like the highest level of male on male I've ever read. It doesn't crowd the sex with unrealistic and bubbly ecstasy. It feels real and VERY steamy in it's detailed descriptions and wide vocabulary. I've read a lot of heterosexual sex scenes in other books and this blows them out of the water.

When I received an ARC copy of this book, I had no idea how much I would end up enjoying it. I started reading and instantly became engrossed with Micah and Eden, as well as the friends and foes in their lives.
Micah was practical and intelligent, able to maneuver through his underground world like a shadow. While Micah lived with his brother and several other men, he kept mostly to himself and never dreamed of anything in his life ever changing.
Eden appeared from the world above like a bright l

Come for the grimdark, dystopian world and stay for the passion, heat, and sizzle! Hellie Heat’s Garden of Eden rocked my world. I was privileged to get my hands on an advance copy and it blew me away. I couldn’t stop reading.

Micah doesn’t trust anyone, and Eden is too trusting—at first. Micah is desperate, and Eden is desperate for Micah. Micah has a secret that could get him killed—and so does Eden. The country of Elysium is run by a dictator. Eden is his best soldier—and his son. Micah is on

Disclaimer: I received an ARC from the author.

"Garden of Eden," the debut novel from Hellie Heat, is a solid effort that plants roots for what promises to be an intriguing series.

The divide between two lands and the unification of the two leads is what drives this story. You get all the beats of a shadowy leader, conspiracies, and sown seeds of rebellion--and steamy man-on-man action, of course!

One cliche I hate in M/M romances is when the female characters are shallow and annoying, but you get

I snapped this one up while it was still on pre-order. Forbidden love stories are my favorite. Though there are plenty of good reasons Eden and Micah should not be together, from the very first moment they couldn't resist each other.

Eden is police, working for a corrupt government. Micah is banished, living in an underground society deemed unfit by a fascist president. The world building in this novel is extensive and interesting. Details of how things got so bad are trickled throughout the plot

Wow! This was a really good story, fantastic! I could not put it down, I read it in one sitting! It reminded me of hunger games kind of like a dystopian society. The world building was amazing. The story was really well written and kept me captivated from beginning to end. Micah was a tough nut to crack, hard on the outside, soft in the center. Eden was a little too perfect and trusting for my taste, but the chemistry was off the charts between these two. All the characters in the story were wel ...more

Make sure you check this out!!

I got an ARC from a friend and was BLOWN AWAY. This novel is dark, hot, beautiful, and raw. The relationship between the two main characters is the only light in their dismal world, but it shines so bright you might catch on fire! It's almost post-apocalyptic and the world building is fascinating. The two main characters are total opposites (literally - think Song of Fire and Ice by George RR Martin) and couldn't be more different. Their story, against the backdrop

I love the world this author is building, it is truly horrifying and has themes that definitely resonate today. I look forward with great anticipation to see how the politics and the Resistance develops. The characters are wonderfully drawn and their struggles against both their inner and outer demons are affectingly portrayed. Micah and Eden clearly have a long, hard struggle ahead and I am anxious to see where this goes in books 2 and 3. This is a series I wish I had all the volumes for as I w ...more

I was lucky enough to get my hands on an advanced copy of this amazing novel! The world building and character development is superb. I love the nods to Greek mythology and the depth of the plot. Portions of it had a Hunger Games vibe to it that I absolutely loved. There is plenty to keep you on the edge of your seat from the characters themselves and the machinations going on behind the scenes. I highly recommend taking this journey into Elysium and Tartarus and seeing what each has to offer yo ...more

Having been a beta reader for this book, I’m familiar with the story. I just started over, because it’s been a while.
Here it is: if you’re not sucked in by the end of the first chapter, nothing can do it. I was before and am now.
I’m delighted that this book has been published and that I got to see it develop.
Excellent job, Hellie, you did good!

DNF at 50%

Not what I hoped from this book, it was boring, couldn't get into the story and close to the characters - they were flat. The sex scenes did nothing for me either.

I wanted to love this book, I thought it's for my liking but sadly not.

this is a different style than I usually read, but Hellie really pulled me in, and im invested in these characters! There are twists and turns throughout that i didnt see coming, and i feel as if i know the characters already. For a debut, this is an amazing book and I cant wait for book 2!

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book. Hellie Heat built a wonderful world for her story. Keeping you turning the page chapter after chapter to see what will happen next. I really enjoyed the characters that she created, and the “worlds” they are from. I highly recommend giving this book a read!

This read was a bit out of the box for me but I must admit I enjoyed it. Eden and Micah are great characters and the world setting is interesting.

It was not the fluffy romance I have been reading lately. I am looking forward to seeing where we head with Book 2.

I was blessed with an ARC of this little gem. The absolute perfect escapism: a natural romance with killer chemistry, lovely prose, pacing that makes you fly through it, and amazing worldbuilding. There is a lot of love and passion put into this book that you can feel through the pages. It catapults you in the middle of a fantastical but haunting dystopian world reminiscent of ancient Rome with the oppressive power disparities of "The Hunger Games," weaving details in throughout the narrative th ...more
