Show of hands, ladies--Who has time for the one who got away?
Not me. I'm a busy woman. It's wedding season in Bliss River and my catering business is slammed.
The last thing I need is a blast from the past, sweeping into my perfectly ordered life, talking sweet and acting even sweeter, making me think about kissing so often I start to wonder if there's something wrong with me.
Spoiler alert: There is. It's been waaaay too long since I've made room for kissing on my To Do list.
Easy fix: I'll play doctor with Mason Stewart until I get my ex out of my system. It shouldn't take long. I give him seven days--seven dates--and then we'll go our separate ways and I'll finally move on.
The only problem? Turns out Mason is even dreamier, sexier, more intense and magnetic than he used to be, and the only place I want to move is into his bed. Full time.
Maybe a second chance is exactly what the doctor ordered? Or do I need a second opinion?

He suffered so much in the years he was away from her and needed to get better for her that he dated like four women and slept with them. Wow, I guess he was getting better and turning into a better man by sleeping with other people. Yeah, I don’t buy that he was miserable without her and needed to get his head straight before coming to her years later and still dates ow. If this time apart was really for that, he would remain celibate for the heroine he would’ve waited for her. But no, he is a man and can’t keep it in his pants. This sucks! I’ve believed him if he stayed celibate, but he didn’t, so I don’t buy his love for her.
Bliss River is the place to be whether you are cooking for, attending or wishing it was your own wedding. Mason had done Lark wrong – sooo wrong – but now he was back insisting he’d changed. He wanted a second chance. So what if he was even more handsome than ever… Or he was uber successful and made his dream come true. He’d burst every dream she’d had and didn’t deserve to be heard… Or did he?
Mason had to fight Lark’s reluctance, she had good reason – he knew that, but also the town and her family that had rallied around her after he left. He was in the wrong – sooo wrong --- but there’s two sides to every story. What he grew up around, and the work he put in to overcome it, meant he (at last) felt he deserved Lark . He was going to do everything he could to show her he could be her everything again. He needed her. And boy was that as swoon-worthy as all get out… *fans self*
Seeing these two fumble, fish and bowl their way back to each other had me cheering that both of them got what they wished. I laughed, I got misty (I cannot lie) and I just reveled in what they were together. Happy. Sigh…
There are more March sisters who deserve a happy ever after and I really, really want Aria to be next… ~Diane, 5 stars
**My thanks to the author for providing me with a free copy for an honest review**
This is a wonderful second chance at love romance and Lili does it again with all the feels, you cannot help but feel the emotions with this book and hope that everything sorts itself out so that the characters can get to their happy ever after.
Mason knows that he screwed up with Lark 4 years ago when he abruptly left her the day after asking her to marry him. However he has been to lots of therapy to help fix himself and work on his problems, he is a qualified doctor and he has never for a moment forgotten Lark and what he needs to do to feel ready to deserve her.
Lark was devastated when Mason left and has never really gotten over the pain of losing him. However within a week she knows that she will never love another man like she does Mason and if it all goes pear shaped she will give up on love.
The path is certainly rocky and Lark's sister Aria certainly does not help, but we do get to see the reaction of Aria and Mason's friend Nick who will star in the next book.
I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait ti see what happens with Nick and Aria and to see a little more of Lark and Mason and Melody, the girls other sister.
Falling for the Fling is the first book in the Bliss River series by Lili Valente. Oh, how I love when one of my favorite authors starts a new series! It’s. The. Best.
Fours years. It’s been four years since Mason walked away from Lark without an explanation. No note. No text. No call. No carrier pigeon. Nothing. One night they were making plans for the future and next he was gone. After three years of dating. Three years of being in love and he just leaves. And now, he is back...
Seven dates. He has seven dates to prove to her that he is a changed man. He loved Lark with all his heart but he felt that he didn’t deserve her. After four years of working on himself, he is home and wants to show her that he has never stopped loving her. That no one has compared to her. She is it. He knew that before he left and he still believes it but does she? Does she believe that he loves her and knows he made a terrible mistake? Will she give him a second chance?
Lark was broken when he left. It took her a year to put the pieces back together and start her catering business. She has dated but nobody gave her butterflies like he did. She should hate him. She should tell him there is no chance. Seven dates. She will give him that and then they can move on. He can go back to his life and she can go back to hers. Right?
Awe!! I do love second chances. It’s so fun to learn more about the person you loved. To see if the love is still there. Lark and Mason are not the same people. They are grown up and have careers and past mistakes. I thought they were sweet, funny, and real. They made me laugh, cry, and blush. Adorable but with fight. Lark doesn’t let him off easy and I loved that. I can’t wait for the next book!! Omg...it’s going to be full of explosive banter.
Quotes:
Seeing her in a bikini yesterday nearly killed me, but this woman in jeans… Damn. “Are you turning?” she asks, propping a hand on her hip. “Jeans,” I say, with a sigh. She arches a brow. “What about them?” “Jeans good. Me like.” Her lips quirk up. “Thanks, Caveman Mason. Now turn around.”
“That was hot,” I murmur beneath my breath. “The way I order food?” Lark asks, her smile widening when I nod. “What can I say? I know what I want, Mason, and I’m not afraid to ask for it.” “And that was even hotter.”
I adore her, and I can’t wait to show her how much.
Book 1 in the Bliss River series and what a start. Loved this book so much. With each book that I read from Lili Valente, the more I fall in love with her work. I always have a smile on my face when I read her books and that is why I love her work so much. Great second chance romance between Mason and Lark. Mason left 4 years ago without a word after proposing to Lark. Lark was able to take that hurt and channeled that into starting her own business. She was doing good until she saw him again at her friend’s wedding and the hurt and feelings came back. He wanted another chance, but Lark worked so hard to be free from the hurt. She is successful and not willing to go back and have her heart broken again. Or will she? Will Mason be able to convince her that he is still in love with her? Can she get over the hurt and open her heart back up to her one true love? Second chance romances have always been a favorite trope of mine because I love watching people find love again with the one person they were meant to be with. I can’t wait to read what is next in this series.
Is there anything better than a second chance romance set in a small town with lovable characters? I don’t think so. And Lili Valente certainly knows how to put it all together in a romantic and humorous way. I think I knew from the start that Mason and Lark would rekindle their romance but watching them get to that point was simply delightful. I love a good romance without too much drama or angst and this book delivered 100%.
I absolutely loved everything about this story!! It is sweet, funny and full of so many emotions, with the perfect side of heat. Mason and Lark are both such likable and lovable characters, and rooting for their second chance at love to work out was simply a pleasure! I was praying Lark would give Mason another chance because he sure seemed to deserve it. He did not exactly leave her in a way that would be easy for anyone to be forgiving though. They had some difficult emotional bridges to cross but love isn’t always neat and easy, sometimes it is messy and difficult and needs to be worked at. It was perfectly clear how much they still loved each other and their chemistry was undeniable. Lark has a great support system with her two sisters, Aria and Melody, but sometimes that can have a negative effect as we end up seeing. Looks like the start of another amazing series for Lili Valente!! Besides reading, I also listened to the audiobook. I enjoy doing that when I can. It brings the book to life for me even more than my imagination can do when I read. The narration is on point with Jason Clarke as Mason-he could read me the specials at a dumpy roadside diner and I would honestly swoon! The man has one of the best voices for audiobooks. And Lili Valente as Lark is amazing as always. She also has a great voice for audio. I love that with both of them, you feel their emotions in how and what they are saying and it is almost like listening to a movie from the other room. I honestly can’t wait for the next book! I knew we were not seeing the last of Nash after those sparks with Aria! I hope Jason and Lili narrate that one too!
I’m not rating this book because I DNF at 20%. I dont care what kind of messed up past or hangs up a man have, he proposes to me & then abandons me the next day with no explanation and then turns up FOUR YEARS later talking bout he wants me back!? Chile he can go dive off the highest mountain & break his neck! And the heroine forgave him so damn easy. I couldn’t read anymore of this crap.
Lark had her heart broken by Mason when they were in high school. Mason having had a horrible childhood wants nothing more then to get away from an abusive uncle he lived with. Mason asks Lark to marry him and she agrees. That's where hearbreak begins. Mason leaves Lark the next day without any explanation. He is gone 4 years and becomes a Dr. when he returns to GA. to win Lark back the story takes off. The sweetness of Mason is beyond yummy making any woman want to swoon. Lark doesn't understand why Mason never contacted her all the time he was gone. Can time mend a broken heart? Can a second chance at love be possible when everyone in the small town you live knows the story of your heartbreak? Lili Valente does a great job of giving both POV and has you cheering for the Hero. The audiobook was a good listen with the sexy voice of Jason Clarke as Mason and Ms. Valente as Lark.
The dating concept in this book is super cute. Of course, anyone can be charming and thoughtful and go all out for a week. And the black moment seemed kind of minor to me. I guess it played on certain sore spots, but I didn’t understand how it became such a big thing. The one I was annoyed with was the one who kept prying into other people’s business. And I don’t know if this is a minor spoiler but... one of my pet peeves is when a book does a time jump after the black moment. All this time goes by and nothing happens. Seriously?
Outside of the romance, I hated the way Mason felt an obligation to his uncle. The dude is super abusive. Mason needs to run away and never look back. Being family and taking you in, only to hurt you at every turn, is not a bond worth fighting for.
There were a lot of laughs in this book. I had a really good time reading it. And if anyone knows Melody’s ex, I would love his number. I find babies to be pretty gross as well.
Second chance romance, anyone? *happy, happy sigh* From one of the queens of romcom comes a brand new series about the March sisters from the small town of Bliss River, GA. Aria, Lark, and Melody have had varied success when it comes to love, but Happily Ever After Catering, which Lark started from the ground up, has certainly become a success. Life is looking good.
That is until Lark's ex, who left her heartbroken and devastated without a word or a single glance back, shows up at her best friend's wedding. Mason had a lot of issues to work through before he thought he could be the man Lark deserves, but he's determined to make up for the past and win Lark back.
One of the things I love about a second chance romance is watching characters who have a history together get to know each other again. They work their way through baggage, discover that old feelings really never left, and best of all, learn to forgive the past hurts. Mason and Lark certainly have their work cut out for them on their road to forever, but I loved every twist and turn, every pothole and bump, and every high and low of the journey.
With her trademark wit and sass, this funny lady gives us an insightful, uplifting story full of snark, humor, steam and heart but leaves us begging for more. Get your copy of this fantastic read today so you’re ready for our next visit to Bliss River!
Dating Dr. Dreamy is the first book in the Bliss River series by the talented Lili Valente. A new series by one of my favorite authors? Yes, please! This is a second chance romance with fun and sexiness! It's been four years since Mason left a broken hearted Lark. He just left without a word and now he's home and wants her back. It took Lark a long time to get over him and she's not giving in. She can't put herself through that again. She's built a life for herself and it doesn't include letting Mason back into her heart. Mason isn't going away. He isn't giving up. He's still in love with Lark and he's going to prove to her that he's changed and she can trust him. Will Lark give Mason a second chance? Will she be able to let go of all the hurt and move forward with the only man she ever loved? I loved this story! I love a second chance romance, they just warm my heart. It's all about forgiveness and healing! Mason and Lark are just made for each other and once they realize they want to try again, it's a beautiful thing to witness! I can't wait for the next book in the series!
This is a mostly sweet romance with only a bit of steam. It's about two high school sweethearts getting a second chance at love. I LOVE Lili Valente's books, but I have to be honest, this one lacked a little something. Maybe it was the way the heroine forgave the hero so quickly, but I don't know. (If I knew the secret to writing great books like Lil Valente, I would be writing my own books and not just writing reviews.) I thought about giving it 4 stars, but I didn't think that would be fair because is still good read. Compared to the other romances I have read lately, it still gets 5 stars. It's just not quite as awesome as all of other work I've ever read by her in the past. I'm still looking forward to the next book in the series and think that story will surpass this one.
Audio Review An emotional ride to a second chance. I loved how these characters still have the love and spark they had as young adults but how Lark will make Mason work to get a second chance with her heart.
Bliss River Georgia is small town and everyone knows everything about their neighbors so when Lark got her heart ripped out years ago the whole town knew about it and now that the heart breaker is back in town and trying to get her forgiveness they all know that as well. There's lots of time to make up for but Mason is willing to do what it takes to win Lark back.
Second chances at love are so emotional. They have the baggage to weed through from the original hurt and everything that has happened in between. This is a great story that lets them get to the other side and find the love they once lost.
Lili Valente and Jason Clarke were perfect as Lark and Mason. Loved their voices and their timing was perfect.
About 80% (number I made up😉) of people usually deserve a second chance...Mason falls into that 80%. Cheers to a sweet second chance book. It’s the perfect weekend read:)
I’m not sure why authors or their publishers do this but sometime between the months I read the 2nd and 3rd books in the Bliss River series but before I went back to read this book, the first, the title went from Dating Dr. McDreamy to Falling for My Fling? I also felt the synopsis really didn’t fairly describe the story. No matter, it was still a good read. In this story we have Lark, the eldest of the three young women siblings the Bliss River series is built around. Lark fell in love with the slightly older Mason when she was nineteen years old. Mason was a pre-med student in college. They had dated for three years but hadn’t had sex because Lark trying to be a good girl wanted to wait until they were engaged and living together before she gave him her virginity. The plan was when Mason finished his undergrade he would go to med school in nearby Atlanta and he and Lark would move in together. Things were going to plan. Mason and Lark checked out affordable apartments in Atlanta, talked about marriage and how many kids they wanted. Mason proposes to Lark (sans ring) and then the next day disappears heading to med. School in NYC without a word to Lark. Lark is absolutely devastated and remains so for months. With the help of her family and friends and a focus on going to culinary school she finally pulls out of her depression and gets her life together. She dates, cashes in her V—card but never really allows herself to get close to another man and risk getting her heart broken. Lark is running a semi-successful and growing catering business working with her older sister single mom Aria and her younger sister Melody. While catering the wedding of one of her best friends she spots Mason whom she hasn’t seen in four years. One look at Mason and she literally takes off running. Mason who was attending the wedding reception for the sole purpose of apologizing to Lark and to hopefully win a second chance with her pursues her. He apologizes explaining why he left her and promises he’d never do that again somehow gets the skeptical Lark to agree to seven dates over the next week while she’s on vacation even though Lark knows it’s a bad idea. Over the course of that week Mason eventually wins back Lark’s trust and they’re talking marriage and children again. But then something happens that destroys Lark’s trust in Mason all over again. Can Mason ever win back Lark’s trust? Now if it were me I’d say “Hell No!” but this is a contemporary romance with a guaranteed happily ever after so you know he somehow will. Good story. I didn’t think quite as good as sister Aria’s the next book in this series (which the author spends plenty of time in this book setting up) or even younger sister Melody’s but still a good story. Lots of heart felt angst, some interesting sibling dynamics and one very sexy scene.
There is nothing more exciting than one of your favorite authors releasing a new series, especially if that author is Lili Valente. This small town, second chance romance is the first book in the Bliss River series.
Lark just knew that one day she would marry Mason. Why wouldn’t she? He did propose to her after all, but then he left; he left Bliss River without a word, without explanation, and without looking back. Four years later, Mason is back with the sole purpose of winning Lark back. Lark, however, isn’t the same girl whose heart he shattered. She isn’t the same girl he left behind. What happens when time doesn’t always heal old wounds? Are you able to open up your heart to the one person who destroyed it?
One of the things I loved about this book is that Mason came back with the purpose of getting Lark back. He wasn’t forced to come back to Bliss River, he wanted to come back. He wasn’t afraid to grovel and plead for forgiveness. While he explained his reasons for leaving he didn’t use them as an excuse to make Lark feel pity for him. He was holding nothing back. He knew he messed up big time and he was willing to take a chance and risk his own heartbreak for the only woman he ever loved.
Yes, the way he left was messed up and I’m still mad at him for taking four years to reach out to Lark, but at the same time he needed that time to heal internally, to grow and get the help he needed in order to be the man he felt Lark needed. While four years is a long time, it made this story more relatable. A person doesn’t heal from so many traumatic experiences from one day to another. It takes time and that’s what Lili did with Mason’s character. She gave him time. I understand Mason’s struggle but I also understand Lark’s pain. The one important trait Mason and Lark both possessed was their ability to forgive and give love another chance.
I also have to say that I love the sister bond between Aria, Lark and Melody. They are a force to be reckon with. I know Aria and Nash’s story is going to be hot. Can’t wait to dig into that one.
Dating Dr. Dreamy was a fantastic start to this new series!
Dating Dr. Dreamy is one of those second chance romances that you don't want to miss out on. Four years ago Mason made the biggest mistake of his life. He left behind the love of his life, Lark. When he left, he left a heart broken Lark who took a long time to become the woman she is today. Mason didn't know any better, thinking that what he was doing was best for Lark. It took Mason four years of therapy and soul searching to realize that he was worth Lark's love and being the man in her life. You see, growing up in a household where no one showed him that he was loved and special made him believe that he wasn't worthy. Even though Mason had the looks, the brains and the sweet personality he just didn't believe when it came down to it that he was enough for Lark. His family upbringing made him believe that. Four years....four years and Mason finally was ready to come back to Lark and prove to her that he was worthy and that the love they shared was special. But would Lark welcome him back? In those four years that Mason had left Lark, she grew into a strong independent woman. Starting her own catering business and being successful at it was her life. She was finally in a place where she felt like herself again. Although she was in a happy place work wise, in the back of her mind, thoughts of Mason did appear here and there. Especially on the day of her best friends wedding. As if her thoughts had the power to make Mason appear, boom there in the flesh stood Mason. Lark's reaction was not what Mason was expecting as he found himself running after her. Could he make her understand why he did he what he did? Would she even give him that second chance? Seven days...that is what he asked for and what she agreed on. Could he make her fall in love with him again in seven days? Dating Mr. Dreamy was phenomenal. I couldn't put it down, engulfing it up in one day. Mason and Lark's story pulled at my heart strings. Being a BIG FAN of second chance romances, Lili Valente gets a 5+. As always Lili Valente did not disappoint.
About 80% of this book was highly enjoyable and the other part was confusing and did not contribute positively to the story.
There was a legitimate reason why Lark and Mason did not work out in the past and he handled it poorly, which he clearly acknowledged. Mason seemed sincere in his efforts to win Lark back and the progression of their second-chance was sweet and made a lot of sense.
Now that part of the story was only about 20%, but it was confusing and unpleasant to read and messed up an otherwise great second-chance. I get there needs to be some sort of drama and then a resolve, but this one just did not fit the story well, which is too bad because the rest of the book really is very good.
Five years ago, Mason made the biggest mistake of his life when he left home without saying goodbye to the woman he loved. But after working hard to overcome the struggles with his family and get through medical school, he has returned home in hopes of making things right. When he unexpectedly shows up at the wedding Lark is catering, her anger flares and her first instinct is to run. But Mason is determined to win back her heart. What he doesn’t know is that despite the hurt he caused, Lark’s heart has always belonged to Mason. Though she reluctantly agrees to give him a second chance, as they begin spending time together, the connection they shared in the past begins to rekindle the flames between them. But will Lark learn to forgive the mistake he made and find her way back to trusting Mason again?
Lili Valente has been on my must read list for many years, so I honestly never bother with reading the synopsis of her new releases. I just dive right in. And she certainly doesn’t disappoint with Dating Dr. Dreamy. I really enjoyed the connection between Lark and Mason and the way they still really know each other despite the passage of time. I loved the support characters as well and could feel more stories on the horizon for the March sisters. Five stars for this sweet Bliss River romance.

Oh my, this is my favorite kind of story!! Second chance romance stories get me every time!!
Lark and Mason were so in love! She knew, early on, that he was "it" for her! All her dreams were about to come true because Mason proposed to her.........and then he left. To say she was crushed was an understatement. She's never cried so many tears or has been so heartbroken. As heartbreaking as it was, she was now a stronger woman, who owns her own business with her sisters, because of it.
She's catering a wedding, when who should be at that wedding, but Mason Stewart! Four years that jerk hasn't said one word to her after he crushed her! Yet, here he is more gorgeous than ever and she wants to go to him more than her next breath!
Mason still loves her so much and he was stupid, naive, and young when he left. Mentally, he wasn't in a good place, so because he felt he wasn't good enough for Lark, he left town. He's now a Doctor and finds a way to attend a wedding that he knew she'd be at. Will she be receptive to his plan to hopefully win her back? It doesn't help any that her sister is on the war path against him.
I loved this story so much! I was team Mason all the way!! I look forward to reading Aria and Nash's story!!
I loved this second-chance romance by Lili Valente. Mason had proposed to Lark one day and then left her the next. Five years later, Lark runs into Mason at a wedding and Mason is determined to win her back. When she reluctantly agrees to spend time with him, the old feelings resurface, but can she trust Mason with her heart a second time?
Lark was devastated when Mason left her, but she had started a successful catering business in his absence and she had worked to become a strong, independent woman. Mason had fulfilled his dream of becoming a doctor, but he had never forgotten about Lark. He had some issues from his childhood that he had to deal with before he felt he was able to let go of his past and become the man that Lark needed.
I loved Mason’s determination to win back Lark. He pulls out all of the stops. The pair have undeniable chemistry and are truly meant to be. Of course, there are lots of twists and turns along the way along with Valente’s trademark humor. I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in the Bliss River series and I’m anxiously waiting to find out what happens between Nash and Arial.
I loved this sweet, sexy second chance romance by Lili Valente. Dating Dr. Dreamy is narrated by Lili Valente and Jason Clarke. Both narrators are one click narrators for me.
Lark and Mason were going to have it all! Then one wrong move and Mason was gone. Now, four years have past and Mason has returned to Bliss River for a second chance with Lark. He has learned from his mistakes and realizes she is his one true love. However, will Lark take a chance on love with Mason for a second time?
Jason Clarke and Lili Valente's voices really complimented each other in this audiobook. In Jason's performance you could feel Mason's conflicted and strained past. Lili's portrayal of Lark's hesitancy and her issues with trust.
Overall I enjoyed this small town second chance romance. I loved that Mason and Lark got their HEA, however it was not an easy journey. I loved that this book shows the power of forgiveness and a chance to start fresh! I'm looking forward to Aria's story next!
Lark and Mason are my new favorite couple by Lili. Dating Dr. Dreamy will make your heart feel warm and fuzzy! I was laughing and then your heart speeds up with the drama that starts to transpire. Lark is very careful allowing Mason back in her life. I loved that she had slowed down and let the course take place with Mason.
Dating Dr. Dreamy is a reminder for us avid romance readers, first loves are powerful. I love the March sisters, and I am intrigued how each sister will get their HEA. Lark and Mason seemed to just fit. I loved their connection and chemistry. And then the letters! I loved it all!!
I finished this book in a single sitting. I'm very #NarratorMotivated, so a book written by Lili Valente and narrated by her along with Jason Clarke is an auto-buy for me! I knew I would be swept away in the performance, and I was right. Mason made some big mistakes, but I really enjoyed his steadfast devotion and belief in a future with Lark. He owns it and isn't afraid to apologize. That is powerful! Lark has been wounded in the past. I identified with her and felt the natural evolution of her feelings, though slightly frustrating. This is a short but sweet second-chance romance about owning your mistakes, taking care of yourself and getting healthy first and then making up for them, and fighting for what you know is right - even if that means stepping away and staying devoted from afar while things are worked out. I really enjoyed this story and immediately jumped into Married to the Enemy next to get Aria's and Nash's story.
