This was a Goodreads giveaway win. I entered to win this book because the cover looked cool. I didn't pay any attention to the title, but after winning I realized Lake Barcroft, (yes, it really exists) is ten miles away from where I live, and often times where I would spend summers with my friends. The winners of this giveaway were randomly selected, but I can't help feeling there was some sort of magic at play by my winning this book.

I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads Giveaway. One of the biggest issues with this book was one that the author addresses in the author note prior to starting the book, namely that they were curious about writing from the female perspective and so they opted to give it a go. It went about as well as you would expect. It's pretty clear that the author didn't talk with any girls, teenagers, or women when attempting to write from the female perspective.

This is a layered and suspense-filled book. The plot has many twists and turns including the unexpected ending. Not wanting to give away plot points, I will just say that the interior and exterior events (meaning what is in the mind of the main character and the events arising from that) are equally important. There is tension in love and sexuality; tension in religion and self-esteem; tension in love and betrayal; and tension in love and politics, and how all of this plays with happiness and we

I had higher hopes for this book based on the description in the Goodreads offer, but it wasn’t to be. The opening third adhered to the description - teenagers, rock and roll and a pregnancy. It was in the second third, the results of the pregnancy where the book began to lose me as I tried to find empathy for any of the characters. The final third was a struggle to finish the book and offer a review. The time line began to get very blurry (Farm Aid in the mid seventies? A thinly veiled congress
