This is a fantastic, heartwarming story. Part women's fiction, part mystery, and fully captivating, I couldn't put it down. With few days left in her life, Angelica calls her nieces to her side to share secrets. She starts by telling her fascinating story of growing up in Italy, and the expectations placed on women in her day. A strong and determined woman, she broke through the conventions of the time and found her own way in life. Filled with love, mystery, and adventure her personal story kep ...more

Joanne Guidoccio is a one-click author for me and this book is just one of the reasons why!!!
A beautiful story of family, love, secrets, and what it means to be a woman!
I cried a lot of tears with this book, folks - happy, sad, and even frustrated!!! But Ms. Guidoccio's expert handling of storytelling, and the stories of 5 women's lives, is wonderful to read.
5 stars from me - wish I could give it more!

There’s more than one way to live a good life.

The character development was well done. Not only was Angelica a well-rounded and interesting person, all of the people in her life were written the same way. Everyone’s flaws were as realistic as they were important to how the plot played out. This is something I enjoy discovering in stories even more than I do learning about characters’ strengths. Any character who endears me to them while they’re doing something I’d normally find irritating is som

Oh my goodness....I really enjoyed this story!
A very beautiful, heartwarming story full of family values and love. Also, full of lots of intriguing and interesting secrets.
The characters personalities came across so clear and realistic, I felt I knew them personally.
The story revolves around a matriarch who asks her three nieces to come visit her as she is very ill and she wants them all share their secrets with each other. Her own secrets she thought she’d never share are now shared to her niec

Beautifully written story of family, history, love and loss. You’ll feel all the emotions when you read this one. The characters were so different from each other, it gave real depth to the story.

Angelica is ill and at the end of her life. She has three nieces whom she is close to and she also knows that each of them is harbouring a secret, some of which are sad and which cannot be openly discussed.

She invites them all to a weekend at her home, knowing that this will be the last one she has, and hoping for a settlement both in her mind and her nieces that she has done the best she has for them. She herself has secrets, which she had hoped to carry to the grave but she now knows that talk

Great Read!

A wonderful story that moves seamlessly between past and present. The author is able to evoke the flavour and atmosphere of an Italy long past and modern day Canada. You come to know each character and care about what happens to them. She tackles controversial issues head on with delicacy and taste in a non judgmental manner. I was sorry to turn the last page and look forward to reading more from this author.

The interaction between Angelica and her three nieces is poignant at times, funny in other ways, and surprising when secrets are shared. A fun read with some tear-provoking passages. The author gives readers dimensional characters and a private ‘look back’ in their lives. A great read and page turner.
