Rate this book
Alison Bedingfield Delgado had a conventional upbringing in a suburb of Greater Cincinnati. From an early age, Alison excelled in academics and athletics, graduating class valedictorian from Colerain High School, where she was a member of the four-time state champion cross country team. In her first-time entry into the Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon in 2005, the unknown 22-year-old placed first in the women s division. Then, in 2010, as a newly wed and second-year pediatric resident at Cincinnati Children s Hospital, Alison was hit by a car while cycling on a suburban road. Her husband, an emergency helicopter physician at University Hospital, was dispatched to treat an unidentified traffic victim and bring her back to University of Cincinnati Medical Center only to discover the patient was his wife. Alison had suffered a traumatic brain injury and developed aneurysms that required surgery and intensive rehabilitation therapy. With patience and exceptional determination, the young physician completed her medical training and is now a practicing pediatrician in Park City, Utah. She resumed running, and while placing fourth in the 2012 Flying Pig, bested her own time from 2005. She went on to compete in the Boston Marathon. Dr. Delgado hopes that her story will be an inspiration for others who face seemingly impossible odds. This beautifully written memoir is her first book. It is attracting rave reviews by critics and the public. Author and educator Mark Curnutte had this to Alison Delgado's autobiography is much like the woman herself on a marathon course. It covers a lot of ground quickly and efficiently. Written in a consistent and honest voice one adhering to her scientific and medical training and steering clear of the sentimentality that could bog it down My Race for Life will often leave readers shaking their heads in disbelief, asking, 'Did that really happen?'

I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio and I have been living and practicing medicine as a pediatrician in Park City, Utah since the summer of 2013. I have been a runner since I was 12 years old and I am a lover of the outdoors.

My book, "My Race for Life, finding new strength after tragedy", was written with a hope to inspire others who have endured strategy or struggle in their lives. It discusses an accident that I survived in the fall of 2010 when I was struck by a car while riding my bicycle. I was not expected to survive, much less return to work but I was able to return to my pediatric residency just 6 months after the accident and went on to compete in a marathon just a year and a half later. I have a hope that my story will help others to continue to believe that it is possible to overcome and to continue to keep pushing forward toward their goals.

“My Race for Life” introduces readers to Dr. Alison Delgado. This is her own personal story of how she overcame tragedy.

Alison Delgado was a shy, overachiever when growing up and excelled in sports and academics. She was a perfectionist and beat herself up if she did not achieve the highest marks. She put this pressure on herself. She went on to medical school, met her love, and continued to excel at everything she did. Until one day, she went out for a bike ride and was hit by a car…severely injured and with little chance to survive. Her determination pushed her to go back and excel at her recovery.

In “My Race for Life,” Dr. Delgado makes it clear that with the telling of her story, she hopes to inspire just one person to not give up on hope and on themselves. She understands that her road to recovery is different from many, but everyone can look at her story and find some little ounce of strength to keep hope alive, no matter if the situation is big or small. This reader feels that if she did not have such a strong “go get them” attitude, she might not have survived this horrible ordeal.

“My Race for Life” is told in everyday language. Even the medical procedures are described in ways that most people will be able to understand. This reader cannot imagine that this was easy given the fact that the author is a medical professional and knows more about these issues than most. The descriptions of everything are told in a way that readers will be able to visualize what happened, the surgeries, and the struggles that everyone had to overcome when Dr. Delgado was injured.

Overall, “My Race for Life” is a book for everyone who might be struggling with something or knows someone that is struggling. This memoir shows the determination that one person can have in overcoming tragedy and huge obstacles that come into their lives. Dr. Delgado gets her point across in a way that is not over peoples’ heads and she just wants to inspire someone to not give up hope.

"My Race for Life: Finding new strength after tragedy" penned by the author Alison J Delgado is an inspirational read. Since her school days, Alison has been a competitive athlete. She was shy and intelligent. In her high school, she was a valedictorian, varsity runner for a four-time state championship cross country team, full-ride college scholarship winner, etc.

In 1995, she became part of a team and got the opportunity to socialize and make new friends. Alison's husband Tim saw her in the paper after she won her first marathon. In 2010, Alison was hit by a car while cycling. Read her story to know how she survived and became a full-time board-certified pediatrician.

Alison's story is inspiring. The cover photo of the book is eye-catching. The language used in the book is lucid and I was able to follow it easily. Alison's story is full of ups and downs. She is a true inspiration for many. Through this book, she is conveying a strong message to her readers to always believe in yourself.

𝑴𝒚 𝑹𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒆𝒘:
Alison J Delgado's "My Race for Life" is one of the best books that I have read this year. In this book, we will read about Alison's journey. She has been a competitive athlete even in her school days. She has won a marathon also but one tragic accident changed her life.

Alison suffered a traumatic brain injury and she developed aneurysms. When her husband reached to treat one of the patients, he started crying after seeing that the patient is his wife of five months.

How will Alison become a practicing pediatrician? Get a copy of this book and read about her life and the tragedies she faced. I am motivated by Alison's story. This book inspires us to love ourselves and those around us. Alison is an inspiration to others to not give up.

Review:
I got my hands on this book when I needed some motivation. Alison has been an overachiever in her life. But fate has something else written for her. She met with a car accident and suffered a brain injury as a result.

It was difficult and shocking for her husband to see that the patient he has to treat is his wife. Alison's journey hasn't been easy. It is heartbreaking and at the same time inspiring to see her becoming a practicing pediatrician after such a big tragedy.

No matter what challenge you are facing in your life, don't give up. There is a way to come out of your tragedy if you have the will for it. Time for you to get your hands on this book. Alison has shared her story with all of us so I am grateful to her. The title of the book couldn't have been more appropriate. Those who love reading memoirs should read this one without missing.

This is a great read! Ali is such an inspiration and truly shows that with determination, faith, and hope, you can overcome anything! You’ll feel the heartbreaks and victories right along with her and her family through her engaging storytelling. I remember hearing about Ali’s accident and her recovery, but learning more of the scary details I had not previously known made me tear up several times. These details make an even bigger impact on me now that I’m a physical therapist, especially one with experience on an inpatient rehab unit. You always want your patients to make an amazing recovery, unfortunately not all do, but it is stories like this that push you to be an unwavering support for them. If you want to be inspired, read this incredible story!

Easy reading book. Lots of pictures. And amazing recovery from brain trauma and seizures. I would’ve liked to have learned a little bit more about their relationship her and her husband or transgender female. I wonder about the things not said both before the accident and after the accident. Why did they move so far from family and friends?
