With you, starting life in another world from zero—
Thanks to the power of Return by Death, Subaru Natsuki has finally and utterly overcome his persistent foe, the Archbishop of Sloth, Petelgeuse. But the cost of victory is greater than he could have ever realized, and an all-too-familiar thought arises: If things had gone differently, could he have found happiness instead of tragedy? Chapter 3 comes to a close with a look at a story that was, a story that will never be, and the story of what lies ahead for Subaru, Emilia, and Rem…
A path of divergent destinies after one of the archbishops of sins is defeated.
One of the things I find interesting about the Re:Zero manga is that the books are split among the chapters and this here is the end of the 3rd chapter of the series which has been HUGE in its scope compared to the first two chapters which established Subaru's new nuclear family now that he has been cast into a fantasy world and learned that upon death he returns to a previous time like a save point in a videogame. However this chapter is not just an aftermath to what happens after the defeat of the white whale and Petelgeuse but it is also a moment of what if where we see what would have happened if Subaru and Rem had actually run off together when he was succumbing to despair and we get to meet not one but two new archbishops which leads to major changes to the lives of all of our heroes in this chapter to one degree or another. I for one was disheartened by one such fate that I will not say to avoid spoilers but at least their condition may not be permenent...so far. With sin running free the world will need to continue counting on its heroes to save it.
