This book is appropriate for students at the end of key stage 1 and the beginning of key stage 2. The book follows the mystery of a missing cat. Highly intelligent "Stinky" the hamster and his best friend/owner "Jinks" solve the mystery of what has happened to this missing cat. The illustrations in this book are few and far between but help children to understand what is happening in each chapter.

Readers can learn about detective work, teamwork and gratitude amongst other concepts. Never mind that the motive seems unclear, the story and writing style are easy to follow. This hamster series by Dave Lowe is a hit with the kids. Even as an adult reader, I am entertained and curious to know how the mystery is solved.
