Hello Reader Level 4
A Dinosaur Named Sue: The Find of the Century
When Susan Hendrickson set out to explore the rocky terrain of South Dakota, she had no idea of the awesome discovery that awaited her. Susan had never found more than a few dinosaur teeth and small bones. But on a routine archaelogical dig one hot day in 1990, she came upon something that would astound the world; a 90% complete Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton -- the most complete T. rex ever discovered! The T. rex was named "Sue" in honor of her founder. The Field Museum of Chicago bid more than 8 million dollars at a Sotheby's auction to make their museum Sue's home. Today, as scientists at the museum painstakingly work to restore Sue's bones, they are learning and discovering new information about T. rex and the times in which it lived. Visitors to the museum are given the rare opportunity to watch this work through a specially built fossil preparation lab enclosed in glass. Scientists expect to be learning important facts from Sue's bones for years, even centuries, to come!

I liked this book as a read a loud for non-fiction. This was about the most complete t-rex skeleton ever found. It has some of the elements -maps, diagrams, captions, photographs, illustrations pronunciation of difficult words. It actually is not the best for elements. There is not table of contents, glossary. I think it is because it is a lever 4 scholastic reader.
Kids would find the content very interesting. I found the scientific uncovering fascinating.

April 19, 2016Just when you least expect it...the find of a lifetime! One fossil hunter who was killing time, waiting on her team to return from fixing a flat tire, fulfilled a wish to check another area. She followed the basic rules of looking for bone fragments down on the ground before looking-up. Her attention to detail resulted in the find of the best t. Rex specimen ever discovered. This fossil was named in honor of the lady who made the discovery. I have been to the field museum in Chicago to see Sue! She is really big and very impressive.

I love this book! So interesting. Before reading it, I didn't know anything about the most complete T-Rex fossils ever found. The book describes how Susan, a scientist, happens to find these fossils. Even more interesting is the struggle as the court system decides who actually OWNS the fossils. The scientist that discovered them, or the person who owns the land they were discovered on? Very interesting stuff.

In 2010, my family and I visited Field Museum and Sue. I got excited when we discovered this book at the library. It was interesting to learn more about the dinosaur we visited some years back at the museum.

We visited Sue at the Chicago Field Museum. What a treat! The most complete and largest T-Rex skeleton. This children's easy to read book was a good introduction.
