But his little girl needs a mother, and Edward is tired of battling life alone. A mail order bride seems to be the perfect solution to his dilemma, he needs a woman in his life, but not in his bed. Definitely not in his heart.

Cynthia Woolf is the USA Today Bestselling and award-winning author of eighty-five works of romance fiction. Comprising sixty-six historical western romances, ten contemporary romance novels, two contemporary romance novellas, one historical western romance novella, and six sci-fi space opera romances, which she calls westerns in space. Along with these books, she has also published twelve boxed sets of her books and two short stories.

Cynthia loves writing and reading romance. Her first western romance, Tame A Wild Heart, was inspired by the story her mother told her of meeting Cynthia's father on a ranch in Creede, Colorado. Although Tame A Wild Heart takes place in Creede, that is the only similarity between the stories. Her father was a cowboy, not a bounty hunter, and her mother was a nursemaid (called a nanny now), not the ranch owner.

Cynthia credits her wonderfully supportive husband, Jim, and her great critique partners for saving her sanity and allowing her to explore her creativity.

OUR HEARTS DESIRE

The Angel Creek Christmas Brides series are individual stories that will each read as a stand-alone. They may have characters from previous stories. This is a clean historical collaboration by a large group of authors.

From New York City to Angel Creek, Montana will find Adele Jensen starting a new life, but has she jumped from the frying pan into the fire. Many years prior, she was sold by her father to Richard Douglas as a mistress, then rejected by her family. She realizes that even Richard doesn’t have feelings for her. He spends less time with her now, knowing he has another mistress to entertain him, she will decide to take her life into her hands. Finding and answering a mail-order ad, she will travel to Montana, where she will have a husband and a child.

The story is full of secrets and even lies that will eventually come to light. Adele presents herself as a widow, and also that she worked as a governess. Edward Wharton needs a mother for his daughter, Lissa, and even a wife for himself. That doesn’t mean love, especially since he doesn’t have a high opinion of women, nor truly trust them. He is still bitter after eleven months from the deceit from Catherine, his late wife.

“You are a feisty woman. Giving me your guidance before we’re even married.”

“I figure to start a marriage in the way that it will continue. I don’t think it fair for you to find out I’m also stubborn and opinionated after we wed. If you want to change your mind, now is the time to do so.”

The story has the good, the hurt, and the ugly of people. Adele is a victim of circumstances, not brought on by herself but by her own father. Edward knows he and his daughter need a woman, but that doesn’t mean he trust her, and Lissa doesn’t want her, wanting her mother to come back. Richard is a man who doesn’t like to lose—if he can’t have Adele, no one should.

This story has plenty of angst, tension, life and death moments, the ugly truth, and eventually forgiveness and grace. Adele would risk her own life to protect Lissa from Richard. It will take a hard reality check for Edward to realize that everyone has made mistakes, and not everything is just black and white. Adele was a victim, but she should have been honest with Edward. Now, he isn’t sure he will ever trust her again. When Lissa sees how far Adele will go to protect her, she learns that blood doesn’t make a family.

“I would never let him hurt you. I will always protect you. You’re my daughter. You have been
from the moment I married your father, I love you, Lissa.”

Best of all, these three, Edward, Adele, and Lissa, will learn how to become a family and grow together. Anything worth having is worth working for. And, if you can find a happily ever after ending, it makes it all just a little bit sweeter.

A heartwarming Christmas romance with suspenseful undertones keeps the reader intrigued from the opening chapters. Adele has plotted and planned her escape and when the time comes, she takes the opportunity to become a mail-order bride. Edward Wharton is all she could hope for in a husband, although she is disappointed when he tells her that he won't give his heart or his trust. Unfortunately, when the man who bought her from her parents catches up with her, her duplicity in hiding her background proves Edward's point. Being a good man, Edward keeps his word to Adele and his daughter, providing his child with a mother even though Lissa doesn't believe she needs one. I loved the main characters in this book. Edward seems like a hard man, but when the chips are down, he proves to be understanding and tolerant. Adele has more baggage than most women carry and it is a wonder that she has come through the betrayal of her family as strong as she did. Lissa and Rauma round out the story, bringing their own flavour to the plot. As danger encroaches on Adele and her new family, emotions bubble to the surface and their true feelings for one another emerge, ultimately bringing about a happy conclusion to this well-written novel. I particularly love the cover of this book. It draws the reader in right away. I received a copy of this book as a gift and this is my honest and voluntary review.

Life does not always turn out the way you want, and when Adele is sold to a man by her father, it seems she is lost.

After managing to get free, she finds her escape in becoming a mail order bride in trying to get as far as possible from her current life. What she finds is much more than she could hope for after a few trials and tribulations!

Edward was left with his young daughter Lissa after his wife ran off with another man, but ends up dead in an accident. He sends off for a bride and Adele comes to take her place as his bride.

Two people who have endured heartaches and have endured a lot, work their way to finding love and trust in this beautiful story that warmed my heart!

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I have always been intrigued by the way men in the western frontier of the 1800s “ordered” mail-order brides as a way to find wives. Because there were no women in that area, this was the only way they could have families and build up the west. I am sure that not all of these marriages were happy, but I enjoy the idea that most of them eventually fell in love and lived “happily ever after.”

This book takes place in Angel Creek, Montana in 1870. Adele lives a miserable life as a mistress to Richard, a man who cares very little about her. This lifestyle is forced upon her when he seduces her, and then “buys” her from her parents. In spite of the fact that Adele’s parents are part of the reason Adele is still with Richard, they strongly condemn her for her disgusting lifestyle.

Adele is miserable because she wants a husband and a family, not just a part-time lover. Therefore, she runs away to Angel Creek, Montana where she becomes the mail order bride of Edward Wharton and the mother of his young daughter.

At a time when women were dependent and supposedly weak, Adele travels hundreds of miles, alone, by train and stagecoach to a strange new frontier. At the end of this difficult journey, she plans to marry a man she has never met and live in a land with very few people and amenities. This is the story of how Adele adjusts to her new life.

Adele’s new life is difficult as she must now wash clothes (which the author describes in great detail), milk the cow, gather eggs, clean house and cook for the men who work for Edward. Added to that, Edward’s daughter resents Adele becoming part of their life.

And to add insult to injury, Richard follows Adele to Angel Creek and causes all kinds of trouble for her and her new family.

Adele is the story of hardship and strength as the main character finds happiness in a strange, new land.

I really did enjoy this book. Cynthia has a way of bringing the past to life. I also love how she merges people into families.
Adele Jensen is running from New York and a man she thought she loved but after 10 years knows she does not. She wants so much more in life, a husband, and children. So, she is on her way to Montana as a Mail Order Bride. She just needs to keep her past a secret, and hope no one comes looking for her.
Edward Warton is a single father because his wife ran off with another man and died before they got out of town. Now he is looking for a woman to be a mother for his seven year old daughter. He is only looking for someone to be there for her and ease his need but not his heart. He will never trust a woman again.

Richard Douglas cannot believe Adele ran from him. He gave her everything and as far as he is concerned, she belongs to him. Therefore, he will bring her back to New York. When he finds her and lets, he tells her she is going with him he does not like the answer No. So now if he cannot have her no one will.
Will Edward see he needs Adele as much as his daughter does? Will Adele be able to stay with Edward and his daughter? Will Richard take Adele back with him? Will someone be killed in all the plotted moves? Remember there is more at stake here than just these people and their love.

I love these old western stories. Ms. Woolf has such a way of writing that I am there in the book either as the character or a bystander. It had to have been so hard for a women back then as they did not have half the rights we do now. It is unbelievable a father would sell his own daughter, I don’t care how much money they needed. Adele had enough of the way Richard treated her, and how bad she felt for what she was doing that she became a mail order bride. I liked Edward, her new husband, who she went to Montana to marry. He has a seven year old daughter who is a pistol, but lovable. I felt bad for Edward and what happened to his first wife. There is always something so interesting in what they wear or what they eat compared to now. Adele runs into trouble when Richard decides he is coming to get her. I loved the story and strongly encourage you to read the book. I was given a copy of the book and voluntarily wrote a review.

This was such a sweet story of sort of fallen woman hoping to find a home, a family, and love, but not without a bump or two. Adele was sold by her family to a man as his mistress. When Richard no longer seems interested in her, Adele answers and ad for a mail order bride. She accepts Edwards proposal in Montana, mostly because he has a young daughter. Upon her arrival in Angel Creek, Adele sets about making friends with Alissa, Edward's daughter, but it is definitely going to take awhile. After she has been there for a time, Richard shows up to take her back to New York and once Edward hears her story he says that he no longer trusts her, but he still wants to stay married to her. Now Adele must watch for Richard's return, win over Alissa and regain Edward's trust along with his love. Read this book to see if Adele finally gets her HEA.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Adele has decided to fulfill her dream of getting married
and having children of her own. But she wonders if she made the correct decision to become a mail order bride.
Adele accepted Mr. Edward Wharton’s proposal and is on her way to Angel Creek, Montana. Her husband to be is a rancher with a seven year old daughter. She was looking forward to seeing lots of green fields as she was from the poor side of New York. She had saved three thousand dollars. Hard work, her parents had seen to that. Her father told her “ you do whatever you can to make a living, to raise a family. You work hard. It’s our way”. Adele was forced into a different life until she realized what she was and that her benefactor hadn’t loved her but he lusted for her, until he didn’t. This is The Very Basic Beginning to a wonderfully suspenseful romantic story...I just could not put down.

Adele by Cynthia Woolf is book 18 of Angel Creek Christmas Brides series. Adele is the mail order bride who is escaping from the man her parents sold her to . Adele is shown to be a strong woman and is also very determine. Edward Wharton is the groom and everything that one would want but he is not willing to give his heart. Lissa is Edward's daughter and does not like Adele. Adel's past catches up and things move quickly. The characters are well developed and easy to like or dislike . I really dislike Richard Douglas who is the man her parents had sold her to. Cynthia Woolf does not disappoint . She has adventure, romance and a little mystery.

This is a great read. It has everything you need in one. Excitement, emotional situations, suspense, surprises, twists and turns and so much more. She has had a rough life with being sold to a cruel man. She decides to get out of that and with a plan does. She becomes a mail order bride with a different name. Lies always catch up with you eventually and cause so much heartache. She meets a man with a daughter. But with his past hurt he has no plans to give his heart or trust. How do you build a relationship out of that? Her past cruel man catches up to her and her new on finds out her lies. What a mess to straighten out. Can her new love with her new man work out now? This is a beautiful and heartwarming story of a couple who have suffered much in their lives. This is Adele and Edward's story. Adele had spent seven years as a mistress to a very undesirable and cruel man. When the opportunity presented itself, she ran away. Edward's wife ran off with another man leaving him with their small daughter but was killed soon after in an accident. Both Edward and Adele had learned to not really trust anyone and were not always truthful with each other; and Lissa, Edward's daughter, did not like Adele. Will their secrets destroy their relationship and will they ever reach a HEA and become a loving family. Be sure to read this wonderful story to find out. I really enjoyed this real page turner and I know you will too.

Cynthia Woolf is pretty much the go to for mail order bride books. This one is classic Woolf with a bride running from a bad situation and finding an amazing man who has offered her a marriage proposal. Edward has a young daughter whose mother had decided to leave her family for another man but died the same day she left, leaving Edward alone to raise his daughter Lissa. Lissa has decided she wants nothing to do with Adele and tries her hardest to get rid of her. In typical Woolf fashion, Adele’s past catches up with her and she has to fight to keep her new family safe and sound. Overall a good book, and a quick read. I really enjoyed the characters she introduced us to here as well.

I enjoyed this story. Adele had been sold to a man who used her for years. When she finally got free, she became a mail order bride. Edward's unfaithful wife died shortly after leaving him and their daughter. He wants a wife and needs a mother for his daughter. His daughter isn't too crazy about having a new mother and Adele works hard to get on her good side. It is a tough sell. When Adele's former lover comes after her, it is too late. She is married and in love with her new husband. He may not like her much after he finds out the truth of her past. Can Adele keep Edward and get him to fall in love with her? Will his daughter ever accept her?

I received an ARC of this book from the author, Cynthia Woolf, via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary and honest review. This is a great love story between Adele and Edward. They both have pasts they are trying to get over and Edward has a young daughter from his first marriage who refuses to accept Adele as her new mother so they have a rocky start to their marriage. When they finally begin to get along, someone from Adele's past shows up and threatens the family. You will have to read the book to find out if their marriage survives. I highly recommend this interesting love story.

I always look forward to reading a new historical western romance, especially by a favorite author such as Cynthia Woolf. She has a gift for writing characters such as Adele, Edward, and Edward's feisty little daughter, Lissa, that make them so real and immediate, you can't help but be emotionally invested in every page of their story. The element of danger that follows Adele to Angel Creek, and the fits and starts to the acceptance of her love by both Edward and Lissa, kept me eagerly turning pages and regretting that their story had to end.

I love mail order brides and Cynthia Woolf is a true master of this genre and her latest, "Adele", Book 18 of the Angel Creek Christmas Brides immediately captivated me and kept me total absorbed in all that was happening in the wild frontier of Angel Creek, Montana in 1870 with engaging characters who must overcome secrets, lies and only the strong survive. This is a wonderful book to escape the stress of this time of year. I received an advance reader copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review.

'Feeling a little churlish are we?'

Adele is feisty and opinionated, Edward is stubborn and wary which makes for some animated verbal sparring, heated exchanges and passionate makeup sessions, a bumpy but rewarding journey for newly weds.
When you then add a resentful daughter, ghosts from the past and dangerous secrets can Adele and Edward find love? Or are two strong and stubborn personalities too combustible?
This latest visit to Angel Creek is definitely action packed and full of laughter and passion too, a great read.

Meet Adele, starting off a new relationship/marriage with a lie is never a good idea - could it be worse than being sold by your own father though to Richard who is a power hungry jerk?
Enter Edward who is seeking a M.O.B. to help care for his 7 year old daughter LIssa, who does NOT want a step mother!
Neither Adele nor Edward has had an easy life, they had their share of heartache (and then some), but need to find a way to atleast trust each other enough as well as Lissa, if they want to become a family! (Even if they don't by all outside appearances.)

Adele was sold to Richard to do with as he pleased In the beginning she fancied herself in love with him. When he decides it’s time for a younger version, Adele realizes she needs to escape. She signs up to become a mail order bride and heads to Montana. Her new husband, Edward, was told she’s a widow. Adele fears Richard will come after her and her past will be exposed. I recommend this book to anyone who likes historical romance.

I think it is understandable why Adele failed to tell Edward her real past. Even with today’s more relaxed morals, most men would hesitate to accept a woman who had been someone’s mistress. Edward had been previously burned by his choice of wife and could understandably have sent Adele away, however his daughter needs a mother and Adele loves Lissa. Cynthia Woolf gives us believable heroes, heroines and villains. She keeps you engaged with the story line.

Well wristbands good storyline. addressable to Richard. Y her father. Edward was married but his first wife rand off and was killed in a
carriage accident which caused Edward not to trust women. Adele wanted out of the life as a mistress and signed up to be a mail order bride. Edward and Adele had a rough beginning butcher's love each other very much and they got their HEA wood highly recommend.

Tedious, wordy, didn't make sense

Needed a lot of editing, proof reading. Details where details were not needed, then a lack of information left me hanging. When I got to the part of them tying Richard up in the barn with no one to guard him, so he got free, I just had to stop reading. I'll be honest, none of the books in this series are great, but they are okay for short stories written in a hurry.

Adele: Historical Western Romance by Cynthia Woolf is book 18 of Angel Creek Christmas. Adele Jensen was looking for a new life so she becomes a mail -order bride. Adele was sold by her father to a man and she wants more than that out of life. Edward Wharton is the groom who ordered a mail -order bride as he needs a mother for his daughter. Edward's first wife was leaving him and got killed in an accident. There are many secrets that get revealed. Cynthia Woolf does a wonderful job of showing that life does not always work out but you can decide to make changes. Each book of the Angel Creek Christmas series are connected but will do fine as a stand alone.
