Hate the Player

Rate this book
“Roses are red, violets are blue, stay away from Andrew Watson’s *ahem* because no other women ever do.”

That’s quite the way to start a conversation at a casual lunch, huh? Grilled chicken, French fries, and pelvic-fatigue, oh my!

And that’s not even the worst of it.

My friend Raquel didn’t pull any punches when she warned me about my brand-new costar and his notoriously player-esque ways. Apparently, my most important mission on my first role in a feature film is to stay immune to his charms.

Are you kidding me? Production costs on this movie are in the hundreds of thousands a day, and staying away from a panty-whispering, vajayjay-charmer is supposed to be at the top of my list? Pfft. Puh-lease.

It doesn’t matter that he’s annoyingly attractive, uber rich, crazy famous, and lusted after by ninety percent of the female population; Andrew Watson is trouble with a capital T—especially for a woman like me.

As a preventative measure, I’ve decided to go ahead and hate him.

Don’t worry, you guys, I’m completely in control. There’s absolutely no way I’m going to do something stupid like fall in love with him.

I can hate the player but still secretly love his addictive game.

I’m sure of it.

My first Max Monroe book. I'm not the biggest fan of Hollywood based stories, but this was cute and funny.
Birdie is a naive country singer branching out to co-star in her first movie.
Andrew is a man-ho by reputation, but he's a much nicer guy than that. He's obviously attracted to Birdie, but he's her co-star in their upcoming movie.
There's great supporting characters. Birdie's friends and her sister are very supportive.
I'm sure that I'll be reading more of MM's books.

Usually I can demolish a full book in like three hours, but today it’s taken me HOURS, and I mean hours to finish. Let me put it this way; my kids didn’t slow my pace, heck even the electric going out and staying out for hours, while I’m over here sweating my tatas off, didn’t even have me blink an eye. You wanna know the honest answer? The real honest answer? Well here you have it.

I found myself dying of laughter to only go back and die of laughter even more, because I could not stop going back and rereading scenes over and over again. I witnessed life flashing before a characters eyes because of well, just reasons, to the “ Be quiet and just watch” scene, I mean I just couldn’t get enough. The witty banter that this duo created was the icing on the cake.

Let’s be real though, that isn’t only thing that made this book what it was. This duo of authors did an amazing job with the originality of the storyline. They built something from nothing, and it was fantastic. The development was so fine tuned, it’s no wonder I didn’t come up for air. The depth of the storyline and the depth of the characters was on point. The chemistry and the enemies to lovers aspect was the best I’ve ever seen done. It was well, I can’t even put into words what it was, because it was just.... Everything.

Max Monroe completely captivated me. They had me completely spellbound, to where as now I know, I’m gonna be dealing with the worst book hangover of 2020. With that comes, Hate The Player being the BEST Rom-Com of 2020. Andrew and Birdie being characters of the year.

Now it’s about time I stop while I’m ahead because I am way to geeked and will share spoilers because everyone needs to know everything about this one, and that’s highly frowned upon so with that, I’m out.

* HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Hate the Player is Max Monroe's newest stand-alone novel. The main characters from two other books appear in this one (Birdie's sister is one of them), but this book is a complete stand-alone.

While reading this book I realized that many of Max Monroe's characters share the same trait. They are walking STDs who are arrogant and yet when they fall for the heroine they become very sweet. I would like to see a different kind of hero from this duo. In how many books do I have to read about their sleeping habits with other women and them thinking that they are God's gift to women? I need something different. Andrew of the first half of the book is not a person I want to meet. Andrew from the second half though is a very good man who is caring, kind and knows how to treat his woman right. I want more heroes like the second Andrew.

Birdie is like a fish out of the water most of the time. She is new to acting (this movie is her very first gig) and she has to deal with cocky Andrew. Something that was very weird is the fact that she didn't know which since she was supposed to shoot each day and was caught by surprise the two times it was mentioned. Someone must have informed her, right?

Despite my problems with Andrew, I can say that I enjoyed the book and I had a good time reading it. Birdie kept me going in the first half and her relationship with Andrew in the second. Once he got domesticated, Andrew was a good person to have around.

There are two things that I would have liked to see. One is the public's reaction to Birdie dating Andrew because it seemed like it was a big deal that could cost Birdie and the second one is the success or failure of the movie. So much of the plot revolves around it that it would have been nice to have them at the premiere of their movie or reading articles about the reception of the film.

The epilogue was one of the best parts of the book and it made the book end on a great note.

Birdie's been suitably warned off playboy Andrew Watson, the man who will be her costar if she nails her first audition. She's not too worried about him, though, she's more worried about making a fool of herself in front of all the Hollywood people, making her brother-in-law look bad for recommending her and getting her the audition. But then this annoying guy in the waiting room drives her so bonkers it riles her up so much that when the two of them (yes, of course he turns out to be Andrew Watson), read for their scene, let's just say, it doesn't go so well... Did the player just ruin her first (and last most likely) chance at Hollywood?!

For some reason, Andrew cannot stop himself from riling up this gorgeous firecracker. That she reacts so intensely to him is beginning to become his obsession. He can't the spitfire out of his mind. That he and she are filming a movie together is just the perfect setup for him to make his move. He just has to get her on the same page. But will she want to be public, if it means letting her adoring fans in Nashville in on them? Is he not good enough for the country sweetheart?

Oh my God, but I freakin love Birdie and Andrew together!! They are definitely Max and Monroe's funniest, snarkiest, craziest couple to date. Combined with their insanely hot chemistry just put Hate the Player on my list of this awesome duo's best couples. I haven't laughed this hard while reading in probably forever, my Kindle was practically on fire because they're so hot together, and Luca and Billie (Taming Hollywood's Baddest Boy) and Rocky and Harrison (Winning Hollywood's Goodest Girl) are in it so I was even more entertained by this sexy, hilarious and witty love story.

Hate The Player was an absolute joy to read! It is a standalone but does have some characters from the Hollywood series, and the main characters here were introduced in those previous books. It’s an enemies to lovers romantic comedy. Birdie is a country music singer in Nashville, but gets her break in Hollywood on a movie about a country singer. Andrew is already the other lead costar. The book starts out with their audition and eventually their filming of the movie, which was so fun and interesting. I loved the behind the scenes of the movie, and Hollywood. I would definitely pay to see that movie!

I have to be honest; I did not like Andrew’s character in the other books so I was a little nervous going into this book. But, as it turns out, I had nothing to worry about. He originally came off as a big player, but he changed so much throughout the book. It was hard not to love him by the end. Birdie, on the other hand, was incredible from the very beginning. She was so easy to relate to, and love. Birdie has heard all about Andrew’s player ways, and decides the best way to deal with him is to make him her enemy. She hates him right from the start. He really just likes to get her riled up. All of their interactions were explosive. I loved seeing all our favorite couples from previous books, and met some new hilarious characters. It was so fun, lighthearted, and just a pleasure to read. I definitely recommend this one.

I smiled and laughed through this entire sexy, sassy, enemies to lovers romance with off the charts sexual tension! This country music star is about to bring Hollywood's most wanted heartthrob to his knees.

Birdie Harris is a country music star who has just been given the opportunity to star in her first movie. Her family warns her off her infamous co-star. He likes fast cars and beautiful women. She needs to keep her pants on around America's Sexiest Man Alive to keep her reputation intact.

Andrew Watson's mission becomes Birdie as soon as they meet for the first time. He may be wanted by women around the world, but he only wants the one that's keeping him at arms length. He loves to rile her up and she makes it so easy. Starring alongside her will be nothing but fun for him. These two are witty and snarky with their banter and it makes for some laugh out loud moments.

The chemistry between Birdie and Andrew is smokin' HOTTT! On screen they sizzle, but off screen she can't get far enough away from her tormentor. Andrew knows what he wants and he's not going to stop until her gets her.

This was a fun read that I enjoyed from the first to the last page. Andrew went from jerk status to full blown swoony boyfriend material. The man knows how to sweep a woman right off her feet. The build up was well worth the wait because when they broke it was fireworks!

My favorite author duo continues to bring us lovable characters, unending humor and lasting love. A great read and another couple to love. And that ending....Romance Gold.

We already heard a little about Birdie and Andrew in the last books. But this can be read as a complete standalone.

Birdie has been pretty famous in Nashville for the last seven years, doing her Country Music Star thingy.

And Andrew. He's a huge Hollywoodstar. Has been for 15 years now.

And he's also a huge manwhore. At least that's what Birdie's friends and family are telling her. Do not fall for that guy!

Why are they telling her that? Because they will be working together on a film very soon!
Birdie's first ever movie role. She's super excited and super scared.

And über flirty Andrew is not really helping 'un-scare' her when they first meet ... LOL!

LET THE FUN TIMES BEGIN!

ADORABLE!!!

I loved this story!

It was such a sweet and funny and Hollywoody enemies to lovers romance!

Birdie is just so adorable and sweet Country-darling-ish. And Andrew is so the opposite. Hollywood's ladies' man. Constantly flirting and joking. Hilarious. They're so perfect for each other, but of course it will take them a while to get to that happily ever after. But the reader enjoys every moment of that journey!

I LOVED the scenes around the middle of the book where some baked goods were consumed by someone. LOL!!!!

I didn't love that there were soo many 'jokes' or 'funny' lines in the story. I noticed that in the last MM books too. It's a bit like they have a notebook full of one liners or phrases or whatnot, and they shake them out into every story. In almost every paragraph is one of those - to me at least - not very funny jokes. It's too much. I would much rather have a real good laugh instead of 10 not very funny little ones. But most readers will still love that. And it definitely got a bit better during the story.

I still really loved reading this! It was funny, sweet, Hollywoody.
I loved that Birdie's sister was in it a lot too!

How are none of Max Monroe's books streaming their behinds off on Netflix yet??? The world is a weird and sad place!!

5 star review Hate The Player by Max Monroe

Max Monroe’s stories are highly addictive, entertaining, funny and their writing seamless as I have no idea where one author finishes and the other takes over. I know when I begin one of their books that I am in for an entertaining read that will more than likely have me in tears of laughter.
You cannot help but become invested in the story that Max Monroe weaves and Birdie Harris and Andrew Watson’s story had me riveted from the first to the last page.

The chemistry between them is off the charts, they absolutely sizzle on screen whilst off screen Birdie does her best to keep away from him. The banter and snarky comments that go back and forth between them just added to my enjoyment of this story.

These two talented authors have set the bar high for romantic comedies and I for one cannot wait to see what they have in line for the remainder of the year. One click this little gem I don’t think you will be disappointed.

I adored this title. I loved both Andrew and Birdie, I loved their hatred of one another, I loved their interactions and I loved their connection.

I also loved the little glimpses of how nice Andrew was actually being toward her, even though she didn't see it. It left me feeling like Andrew was a little bit of a nicer guy than Birdie thought, and it made me a little more willing to see him as something other than a complete jerk.

This one worked for me, and it worked well. The pacing was good, and the balance of the parts of the book where they were enemies was well balanced with the parts of the book where they were together. And, as the balance was there, it also allowed the story to move in a way that worked for it and allowed me to be fully engaged.

I enjoyed and recommend this title.

Not my favorite in the series. It took me a while to warm up to Andrew. I’m over the player Hero’s. And he was a walking talking STD. Super arrogant and cocky and used sweetheart WAY too much. If you call a random woman sweetheart and then the woman who ends up YOUR woman sweetheart. It’s just not genuine. This greatly annoys me.

I liked the famous country singer making her first movie storyline. I kept picturing Carrie Underwood in my head as Birdie. And the Hero, a famous playboy actor is the male lead. They never mention if the movie was a success or flopped. Would have been nice if this was mentioned in the epilogue.

Some cameos of characters in previous books. Luca, Billie, and Rocky. Not necessary to read those books if you decide to read this one.

NICE COVER 😍😍

While I appreciate the cover, I just did not connect with this story. As such, I stopped reading like 30 pages in....I found the story to be TOO SILLY for my taste. Perhaps if I’d read the other stories in this series I would feel differently, but I just found it TOO GIMICKY!! Also, the chemistry between Birdie (INTERESTING NAME 😂) and Andrew was LACKING!! I didn’t feel the STEAMY CONNECTION that the author intended for her readers to believe existed between the two characters. This saddens me because I LOVE ENEMIES TO LOVERS!! I guess my search for breathtaking enemies to lovers stories continues...

I am absolutely a die hard Max Monroe fan! I devoured this book!

When you take Nashville’s hottest star and throw her into Hollywood to co-star with Hollywood’s biggest player, what do you get? The best story ever!

She hated him, he was enthralled by her. Andrew couldn’t help himself every chance he got to rile Birdie up and her witty retorts had me laughing through out the whole book. But he was also paying close attention to everything she did and not to his heart. Birdie couldn’t decide what she was going through when it came to him.

Then Memphis happened and there were a few tears but, thankfully characters from a previous book stepped in and sorted things out for them! We got to see a different side of them and everything was back to perfect!!! I’ll just say Fiji and minivans forever!!!

Did I mention how much I loved this book? Max Monroe never disappoints!

This was a very sweet, very funny enemies to lovers romance that was super fun to read. I was craving something lighthearted and this baby fit the bill! Sometimes it’s comforting to read romance that you know won’t break your heart but will still make you swoon.

The banter between Birdie and Andrew is top notch. I loved how they couldn’t stop riling each other up, but I loved even more when they realized they no longer wanted to play that game.

I thoroughly enjoyed Andrew’s journey from renowned Hollywood player to lovesick, sweet, caring boyfriend. Highly recommended if you want something funny and romantic that won’t make you cry!

I’m trying to get through the first 6% of this book but it has been pure torture. I don’t need the back story for every character of each of your past books in the hopes that I will go and read that too. It’s annoying and distracting. I’m going to try to skip a little to see if I get to any interesting parts. Otherwise, I’ll label this one as DNF and I’ll add these authors to my Do Not Read list since this isn’t the first time I’ve encountered this problem with them.

Nice quick easy read. It has its predictable moments but overall it is funny and light. Andrew and Birdie are both likable characters and the supporting characters are interesting as well. Each one is decently crafted so that they seem like real people and not just props in the story. If you like whirlwind romances with an HEA I think you might like this one.

Tension-filled and sexy

Love all that delicious tension! This lighthearted enemies to lovers romance is filled with chemistry and humor, making the pages fly by. Our hero is a shameless playboy who has finally met his match, and sparks fly between the two right away. I loved all of the bickering that is really banter, the humor, and the slow build from loathe to love. And while it took a long, long time for the hero to grow on me, he did win me over by the end.

The story follows Birdie, a country music star on the rise. She’s set to audition for her very first acting role and has been warned by her friends that her potential co-star is not the kind of guy whose charms she should fall for. An established actor, Andrew has a reputation for being a bit of a jerk and for loving all of the things that come with the Hollywood lifestyle - including the endless buffet of women. When he meets Birdie, it’s lust at first sight, but she is immediately put off by the personality beneath the pretty package. The two heat up the screen, and it’s not long before their relationship shifts in a new direction.

I always love the humor in Monroe’s books, and there’s definitely plenty of that in this one. There’s also a whole lot of CHEMISTRY between these two; they have zero problems in that department. My only real disconnect from this one is Andrew. He is just a little too oversexed and arrogant for my personal tastes, so my like of Birdie would diminish every time she fell for his charms. It’s also a slow burn (which I love), but these two are still flirting with other people halfway in (which I don’t love), and denying that there’s anything more than heat for even longer. That’s really the only thing that holds me back from calling this a 5-star read. I enjoyed it from start to finish, read it in one or two sittings, but wanted to like the characters a little more. That being said, Andrew really does show his sweet side in the back half and I grew to like him a lot more. I received an ARC via Social Butterfly PR and am voluntarily leaving a review of this tension-filled romance.

5 STARS!

A Max Monroe romantic comedy is a real good time. Alternating between fanning myself, swooning and howling with laughter, this author duo has given me hours of entertainment. Hate the Player is their latest romcom, and it is one heck of a wild ride.

I absolutely loved Andrew and Birdie together. They were fire and gasoline from the start. Birdie, a country superstar, was making her Hollywood acting debut. Andrew, a Hollywood heartthrob, was her leading man. I loved Birdie—she was genuine and real, a firecracker with a backbone. She was well informed about Andrew’s notorious playboy ways, and not wanting to be the next notch on his bedpost, she just decided that she’d treat him as her enemy right from the start. Andrew’s favorite pastime was to rile Birdie up, and each of their encounters was more fiery than the last. Their banter was an addictive form of foreplay, and I just couldn’t get enough of Birdie and Andrew. The more they fought, the harder they fell, and I loved how much Andrew grew and changed as the story progressed.

Hate the Player was a fun, flirty and fiery enemies-to-lovers romcom. Witty repartee and sizzling chemistry fuel the build-up of Andrew and Birdie’s relationship, and I spent the day with my Kindle in hand devouring this unputdownable story! Five smooches from me for Hate the Player by Max Monroe!

LOVED Birdie and Andrew’s story!

Max Monroe’s writing is my favourite! Nobody writes a rom-com like this duo! Super ridiculous antics that have me snorting in laughter mixed with all the feels.

Andrew, well known, popular Hollywood actor was a complete jerk in the beginning! I had no idea how I ended up falling for him so much but when he pulls out all the sweetest gestures and moments for Birdie I couldn’t get enough.

Birdie is a popular country star who has been cast to play as Andrew’s co-star in an upcoming movie. Right from the beginning the two had incredible chemistry. The hate to love vibe was STRONG and I ate it up.

I loved seeing these two fall for the other. Birdie taming Andrew and his playboy ways and Andrew pulling out all the stops to prove his love for Birdie left me with all swoony feels.

The ending was EPIC and PERFECT! A top favourite this year.

This is the story of Birdie, an up and coming country singer, and Andrew, a famous Hollywood actor and notorious “player”. Birdie has been offered the chance to audition for a major motion picture and Andrew has been cast as her potential co-star.

To say that sparks fly from the beginning is a massive understatement. This is not your typical “meet cute”, and from the beginning the lives of attraction - and hate - are drawn. You won’t forget the interactions between these two - they are epic in all the best and most hilarious ways!

I really enjoyed this story. Character development was on point, and I was rooting for Birdie and Andrew from the first page. Definitely pick this book up if you enjoy enemies to lovers with a side of funny!

This was another quick, fun read. I also seem to have a thing for books with orange covers at the moment.

Whilst this is technically an enemies to lovers storyline, both Birdie and Andrew are fun characters, so the banter between the pair of them was witty as opposed to mean.

The start of this book took me a little getting used to. I felt that there were too many characters and I had to reread the first 10 pages a couple of times. It turns out that whilst this is a standalone, it isn’t the first book in the series, so where I was a little lost at the lack of introduction to some secondary characters at the start this is obviously due to already meeting them prior to this book.

When we first meet Andrew he’s a bit of an arrogant dick, but we soon warm up to him and he turns out to be very sweet in the end. I enjoyed his text exchanges with Birdie.

The end wraps up pretty quickly, but as this is a short and sweet book I wasn’t too disappointed by this and finished in one sitting.

Birdie and Andrew are a perfect match! I love their stubbornness and tenacity. Max Monroe’s book always make laugh out loud and this one was no different! So many one liners and hilarious scenes! 😂 There’s a broken nose, pot brownies, and so much more!

She laughs at me and lifts her hands defensively. “Hey, I’m just trying to look out for you. His dick is like a soldier. It’s seen things ladies like us should never see. Done things it’s not even sure it’s proud of. It is a maker of sexual carnage, I’m telling you.”

But, Andy’s 😏 transformation is so sweet and sexy. He’s so thoughtful and swoony, that I wanted to smack Birdie as bad as Billie did!

Do yourself a favor and read this hilarious enemies to lovers romcom! You will not regret it!

It was mentioned four times or so that she did not have sex for over a year.
Often that he had a fling with a swimsuit model six months ago.
That women regular left his bed and that he was always on the prowl.
But are we told whether or not he sleeps around after meeting the h? No.
We do not see him with other women, but it is said that he is looking.
Am I supposed to believe that this playboy does not find any women interesting for two months while Birdie is dismissing him just because he is not interested in women at two parties? I don't, specially not when it is mentioned that Birdie is celibate.
So when the conflict comes Birdie is supposed to see that actions speak louder than words, and that Andrew is interested in a real relationship with her despite never saying it. However, if it's given that actions speak louder than words, then I would not have understood Andrews intentions either. He was douche and a player through most of the book, that does not scream commitment.

It should be said that the author writes easy, likeable and enjoyable books and that I actually enjoyed most of the book. Max Monroe knows how to write books that make you feel good, not perfect books but definitely books that leave you happy, which was how I was feeling throughout most of the book. I was just waiting for Andrew to turn alpha and show her that there have and will always be only her. So the only real issue is that I do not believe in Andrew doing a 180 wanting commitment and children after a month with Birdie, and being quite willing to give her up without a fight.

Hate the player is the laugh out loud comedy we all need this summer! Andrew is as infuriating as he is hot and Birdie’s sass and fire will have no part in his silky antics! The only problem though, their attraction?

Birdie and Andrew have one heck of a start and each interaction is funnier and crazier than the first! When their interactions become more constant and in closer quarters their lust won’t be denied!

This story is very angsty but hilarious! It was beautiful to see the attentive side of the bad boy and for once it’s the good girl who needs to decide what the future holds!
