Trigger Magic

Rate this book
Quinn is cursed.

Bobbi’s a magical screw-up.

Together they make a great pair.

Barely over the trauma of her father’s last attack that left her broken in body and spirit, Bobbi sees demons hiding in every shadow. But some shadows hold real threats.

Someone broke into her house and her shop. Is this new stalker one of Koro’s agents?
With no one else to turn to, she seeks an alliance with the Hidden Coven.

But the witches don’t trust her.

Why should they? Her ignorance nearly let a demon into their world.

Quinn’s polite manners tell her that he wants to keep his distance too, and his cold shoulder hurts more than anything.

Bobbi’s fate now lies in the hands of the Goddess, the coven, and a man whose heart she already broke twice. She’ll have to learn to master her unruly magic—and fast—if she and the coven are to survive.

You’ll keep turning the pages on this paranormal thriller because new secrets threaten the future of all those Bobbi holds dear.

Kim is also passionate about fiber art, photography, children’s literacy, rescue animals, nature, and genre-bending fiction. She also writes for children under pen name Kim Chatel.

Trigger Magic: Hidden Coven Series, Book 3 finds Bobbi still wishing she could cast spells for everything, but there are critical gaps in her skill. She does know when she enters her house one stormy night there is an aether, other than those created by her plants or a stray cat, present, and she fears her father’s evil machinations. Un-witchlike, she dials 911, but the intruder blasts her with powerful magic. Thus, Kim McDougall grounds book three quickly for new readers, so welcome to Pennsylvania’s unique village. The secret coven is once more under attack from Koro, and Bobbi feels responsible. Quinn, in charge of security and busily trying to deny his attraction to Bobbi, feels responsible. Will either defeat the enemy, or will it take both? Will the coven survive?

A Bobbi-created rift in the wall that protects the coven… an insane demon… berserkers… swollen lay-lines… and through it all the thread of an unlikely romance. The trigger IS magic, dark magic that must be defeated, and it leads Bobbi and Quinn into danger. “There was a crooked man who walked a crooked mile.” Who could have dreamed a nursery rhyme would lead to peril? Kim McDougall, mistress of the art of making fantasy seem more real than reality with her adroit use of the everyday to make readers believe in magic: that’s who. Trigger Magic is her third book that’s left me searching for another word to describe her writing. I’ve used riveting, enthralling, and spellbinding. Captivating; I can’t wait to read book four.

In the small town of Ashlet, Bobbi Cole is attacked in her home. When the same assailant ransacks her work place, Bobbi returns to Hidden Coven, much to the surprise of Bobbi’s former flame, Quinn. While Bobbi puts her defense training into overdrive, she accidentally tears open a portal to a foreign dimension, leaving Hidden Coven vulnerable to not only attacks from new demons, but also from an old enemy, Koro – Bobbi’s demon father who will stop at nothing to get to his daughter. Trying to right her wrongs, Bobbi watches helplessly as the number of casualties increase more and more each day, eventually exposing a secret Quinn had gone to great lengths to keep buried. Bobbi’s fate now lies in the hands of the Goddess, the coven and her own learned skills, as she must utilize every trick she can fathom if she – and the coven – are to survive.

I have been waiting anxiously for the third book in the Hidden Coven series to arrive, and Kim McDougall did not disappoint in her delivery. From beginning to end, Trigger Magic delves right into the heart of the story, while also reminding readers of crucial elements in the previous two installments of the series. Quinn and Bobbi’s love interest keeps me coming back for more time and again, as does the obsession of Koro with his gifted daughter. It is unfortunate that Bobbi is constantly scorned and judged by others in the magical community simply for being Koro’s next of kin – something far out of her control. Staying true to her heart, however, Bobbi’s romantic connection to Quinn never fails to pull me in time after time. The action, mystery, thrill and shock-factor are a constant, with each page bringing about new secrets which threaten the future of all that Bobbi Cole holds dear. Kim McDougall’s writing is exceptional, and I cannot wait to read more of her work in the future. I recommend Trigger Magic to fans of magical adventure, romance, and a love for the occult. Hidden Coven is sure to be a hit with lovers of the paranormal.

The books in this series just keep getting better! I was totally absorbed in this tale, thoroughly enjoying the characters' development and their situation, which is complicated and intriguing. I could feel myself there in the story with them. It ended on a cliffhanger, but luckily, the next book awaits. If you like good magic vs evil magic and lots of action, you will enjoy this book!
