It’s always a treat when a friend puts out a new book, and this is no exception. Candie and I first met at my very first event where I attended as an actual author.

The Story
Adrianna, or Adri for short, is a classic introvert. She loves curling up with books, writing, and only spending time with people in short meaningful bursts. Ever since she was little, she’d had a recurring dream with the same boy, Simon. They’ve essentially grown up together, neither knowing that the other was a real, livin It’s always a treat when a friend puts out a new book, and this is no exception. The Story
Adrianna, or Adri for short, is a classic introvert. She loves curling up with books, writing, and only spending time with people in short meaningful bursts. Ever since she was little, she’d had a recurring dream with the same boy, Simon. They’ve essentially grown up together, neither knowing that the other was a real, living, breathing person – that is until Simon spots Adri in a random video online.

Completely dumbstruck by learning that his dream girl is real, Simon is compelled to meet her in person. One problem, he doesn’t know where she is.

My Review
This story is told from both Simon’s and Adri’s point of view in alternating chapters, with dream chapters nestled in-between. We see their lives unfold piece at a time and how this unusual dream the two of them share influences their decisions. Because of this unique construction, the story is definitely a slow burn. Different connections and realizations are carefully orchestrated to keep the reader wanting to see what’s next.

What I loved most is how the dream sequences were painted. As dreamers, they have control over the setting of the dream, meaning that these dreams occur in all the places an introvert would ever wish to go including Middle Earth, a space station, and different beautiful natural settings. Not only does this reveal several of the different interests of the dreamers, but it gives the reader a fascinating question to answer – where would you visit in your dream?

My biggest challenge with reading this book is that because it’s written in first person, it often took reading a few paragraphs of the new chapter before I as a reader was able to settle into the right character’s mindset. The chapter headers do tell the reader where the chapter occurs, which is a huge clue to who’s head you’re in, but I personally needed a minute or two for it to click.

Thomas does a wonderful job creating compelling characters with great emotional depth and dreams of their own. I was eager to see if Simon succeeded in his quest to find Adri and was very happy with the ending.

My Recommendations
This book is perfect for those who love an interesting romantic comedy. It’s got all the feel-good connections, the threats to happiness, and two people that are perfect for each other, should they ever meet. There is that touch of magic with the dream elements, but not enough to deter anyone who isn’t fond of the fantasy genre.

As for age recommendations, there are several instances of alcohol consumption as well as appropriate romantic leanings that don’t stray into anything more than kissing. For that, I’d recommend this book for high school aged readers and older.

I give To Dream in Daylight 4/5 for being a cute romantic read that’s perfect for curling up with after a long day. ...more

The premise of this book had me so interested and excited, which is exactly why I requested a copy.
For me, though, the execution fell a little flat which was disappointing.
I found it incredibly hard to get into this book, connect with the characters or get excited about the story.
There were moments that were good, mostly towards the 40-60% mark, but unfortunately, I then found the ending to be a little rushed.

When Adri’s unexpected appearance in a viral video catches Simon’s attention, he realizes that the girl in his dreams might be a girl in real life too, and finds himself on one adventure he never dreamed of.

The Narrative Structure: Chapters alternate between the present, where Adri and S Adri and Simon give new meaning to the term “star-crossed lovers.” Since childhood, they’ve been meeting in their dreams, sharing stories and supporting each other through good times and bad—but never in person. When Adri’s unexpected appearance in a viral video catches Simon’s attention, he realizes that the girl in his dreams might be a girl in real life too, and finds himself on one adventure he never dreamed of.

The Narrative Structure: Chapters alternate between the present, where Adri and Simon are mid-twenties and living in Chicago and Portland, and chronological vignettes from their dreams. The romantic in me would have loved to see more chapters devoted to their early meetings and discovering their connection—which would have been a natural opportunity to flush out their characters some more and lay more of a foundation for their relationship—but we only get a few, short chapters from their early dreams.

The Likes: This concept has so much potential, from dreamers imagining new settings to sharing recreations of memories and spaces. We only get a glimpse of these imaginative possibilities (even though the characters have been doing them for years), but I would have loved to see more cosplay/D&D scenes, or more Inception-esque creations. As it is, it felt geek-lite: lots of passing references to a multitude of geekdoms (LOTR, D&D, Zelda, Final Fantasy, to name a few), but no real depth to or exploration of any of them. It left me wishing the author had just gone full. geek. Embrace it!

I thoroughly enjoyed the momentum toward the end, especially when chapter titles zoomed in from “Portland” and “Chicago” to street names and specific locations.

The Dislikes: For as much time as I spent with Adri and Simon, it was hard for me to get a sense of them beyond stereotypical adjectives/labels (e.g., “geeky,” “bookish,” etc.). Based on descriptions in the book, I could only conjure up squishy impressions of what they look like and their surroundings. The ending also felt rushed and I honestly felt a little cheated that we didn’t get more between the last two chapters.

Perhaps most unfortunately, the writing style was not my cup of tea. Often the reading level came off as middle-grade, a strange contrast to some of the more mature content.

While this isn’t the book of my dreams, younger readers or readers who enjoyed movies like Your Name or The Lake House might find it dreamy 😉

I was captivated by the cover, I was captivated by the blurb, and as I reached the end of the book, I knew this would become my go to “feel-good” book from now on.
The book is heavy on emotions and lighter on drama, though there were times I wanted to just pluck the main characters out of the book and put em in front of each other and go, “there, now sort it out”!

I have mixed emotions about his book, while it was slow to start , it eventually picks up. I love the dream flashbacks, it really helps you see how Simon and Adri get closer and why it is so important that they find each other. I downloaded this one about 10 am and listened to it every opportunity I had. I would have listened to it straight through if I had been able because I was enjoying it so much. As it was, I listened until 2:30 am, and then I started it up again almost immediately after I was awake in the morning.

I give this book 2.5 stars. Adri and Simon keep dreaming about each other and then Simon finds out she's real.
Both characters have very little personal development and are plagued by their exes and the memories of this. I was so looking forward to them meeting, and then the book ends. It was a mellow read, but also made me antsy because they keep missing each other.

What a joyride!

I loved this book! Wow! It pulled me in and entertained me from the first dream to the last. Suspenseful, frustrating, funny, and so, so hopeful. I came away completely satisfied - but it was a crazy journey! A beautiful story! Adri has dreamed of Simon since she was a little girl and she sees him in her dreams which has affected her life. When a video of her goes viral Simon sees her and becomes obsessed trying to find her. This story makes you wonder if you can connect to another person in your dreams. Loved how Simon and Adri made me feel about the possibility of dreams coming to life.
