With the help of his human and non-human allies, Colton has accomplished the impossible; he killed the Overlord of the Dark Ones, crippling their offensive - for now. The battle is won, but the war has just begun.

Three weeks later, the nightmarish creatures from another dimension are back. And they're stronger and more vicious than ever.

If that isn't bad enough, Colton is

Dark City (Tales of the Shadow City #2) by Anna Mocikat is a book I requested from NetGalley and the review is voluntary. I really enjoyed this second book! I didn't like that it ended in a cliffhanger! The characters are the same but we get to know more secrets about them. More interactions that lead to conflicts in the Zone, and out! So much action and the sci-fi/fantasy mix makes this a terrific read. Dark Ones, mutants, vampires, cyborgs, and other creatures along with zealot religious freak ...more
Dark City is the second volume of the planned Shadow City trilogy, a post-apocolyptic fantasy set in a future Los Angeles following a "Glitch," which destroyed civilization. What remains is a community of humans centered in the ruins of Hollywood and a nearby alliance of Vampires. Part of the alliance is that the humans voluntarily give to the blood bank. The alliance is necessary because with the Glitch came an opening to another dimension where the Dark Ones dwell and plot and Earth, if it can ...more

Dark City is a thrilling continuation of Shadow City, the first book in this series. The story starts not long after the Battle on the Freeway. The humans and vampires have a tenuous alliance, and Colton has status as a hero. As a reader, I knew that any peace was fleeting. There are too many warring factions for anything else to happen. On one hand, the Dark Ones want to upset the balance between humans and vampires. There are also humans who hate the alliance in the Zone and vampires with comp ...more
The world is a mess, something called the Glitch has decimated the human population but there are survivors. The survivors have to eke out an existence between the harshness of the land and a vampire colony with an agenda of their own and the Dark Ones who seek to end the human race. There is also a cyber race that assists the humans. It certainly is not an easy world for anyone to navigate.
We meet all the characters a couple of weeks after a major battle has occurred in which the humans with t

Dark City
The people in the Zone are trying to survive, not only from the weather and harsh conditions that leave them with little of anything including food but also from the rebel vampires and The Dark Ones.
I didn’t read the first book in this series but did not feel that I was missing anything. Although I am not normally a fan of post apocalyptic books I loved the combination of the urban fantasy and post apocalyptic worlds colliding (vampires are one of my weaknesses).

Feels like coming home. Yes, that home is kind of a terrible post-apocalyptic wasteland. Even so, spending time there might be worth it. Brooding and overprotective Eric, funny and caring, and yes, Cyborg, Bombshell, Colton and Jean’s love. These characters feel like family! Throw in stunning Eurydice and enigmatic Vincent’s odd and preternatural attraction, and a slew of interesting side characters (needs more Isabelle, TBH) and what we have is complete, well rounded adventure with something fo ...more

The Story

It picks up three weeks after the end of Shadow City. Just like its predecessor, Dark City is a fast-paced novel with multiple POVs intertwined. After defeating the Overlord of the Dark ones everyone in the Zone sees Colton as a hero while the nightmarish creatures regroup to attack.

Colton starts having blackouts, sometimes even during missions, which puts his life and his team at risk. Despite claiming he’s okay, he agrees to go with Bombshell to the Academy for an extensive check-up.

As someone who didn't enjoy the first book, I only picked this one up because I was participating in a book tour. I can't say it changed my opinion of the series, but it was a significantly better book.

After the events of the first book, the human settlement is weakened, and tensions are rising. The demon-like creatures from the other dimension won't stay away for long. To make matters worse, Colton is suffering from a life-threatening illness that leads him to the Academy, a group of cyber-enha

WOW! Just WOW! 😲

This second book in the scifi-ditopian-postapocaliptic fantasy series is an unbelievable roller-coaster of action, destruction and dark emotions.
It happens so many things at the same time in this book, that it's not possible to describe it with a short review.
The post-apocalyptic Los Angeles world is what nightmares are made of.
Mutations and zombi-like creatures from the Dark Ones world attacks, make every day to a battle for life and death.

Spoiler-Free Review:
Dark City by Anna Mocikat is action-packed and takes place in a post-apocalyptic world. It follows main characters: Colton, Jean, Eurydice, Eric, Bombshell, Vincent, and Louis.

The book contained many interesting Sci-Fi aspects that I found to be really enjoyable. I especially liked the contrast of the desolate, post-apocalyptic world with these enhanced cyber-machines and people. It really felt like what a potential post-apocalyptic world might look like if it existed in rea

My Highest Recommendation!

If you are a true fan of the Fantasy genre, you will find the Tales of the Shadow City series highly enjoyable.

Author Anna Mocikat superbly navigates multiple plots throughout the series and this book. Each plotline is given just the right amount of time to grow, each character given their moment to shine, or fail.

It is rare for an action based book to also be character driven. This author does a tremendous job in this. You care about each character, good or bad, and th

In this sequel to Shadow City, the author has outdone herself. With the characters firmly established in the first book, she's free to focus on a whirlwind plot with inventive twists and new ways to torture (in the best genre way) her characters. While the ending really sets up the climactic third book, it is a fun ride and makes me impatient for the next installment.

I received an advance copy of this book, with no expectation of a positive review. I enjoyed it that much I had to share.

I loved this book. I loved to be back in this world and with these characters. A lot happened and there weren't any boring moment. And we got the answer for what Colton is. I didn't expect that at all. I think I had some other ideas. I liked that we get to know Vincent a bit better and I liked his relationship with Eurydice because I liked her. She is interesting character. Also I still liked Eric and Bombshell. Can't wait for next book.

Book 2... Wow!

What can I say? The story continues to get better and we get a more in depth look at what is happening with behind the scenes and workings on what our characters are doing and experiencing. Can't wait to read the next book.

Anna Mocikat did it again. She’s presented us with a unique world and great, well-rounded characters.

Dark City continues the story of Colton, the people of the Zone and their struggles and fights with the Dark Ones. Well wow...I’m amazed again. I loved Dark City in its entirety. The world-building? Just astonishing. I can feel how much thought and effort Mocikat put into building up this world.

Dark City by Anna Mocikat is the sequel to her book Shadow City. It continues the saga of the human and vampire survivors of the Glitch, the unknown event that tore open a portal to another world. They battle the Dark Ones, creatures that came through the portal and are using Earth as part of a plan to conquer their true enemies.
I have to say, I truly enjoyed this book. This is the third book of Mocikat I have read and she never disappoints. One of the things that stands out, is her attention to

In "Dark City," the second book of the "Tales of the Shadow City" trilogy, Author Anna Mocikat delivers a thrilling journey through a post-apocalyptic world. Dark ones and vampires battle a coalition of humans, vampire allies, and cyborgs in a quest for survival. Mocikat leads the reader through a tale of love, sex, and treachery where things as not always as they appear. Mocikat is a master of the cliffhanger, and the pace increases until the end. This is a must-read for fans of "Shadow City." ...more

4.5 maaaaaybe. I'm really stuck between 4.5 and 5 stars on this one.

Firstly that ending cliffhanger was killer and I need answers.

I definitely enjoyed this second installment to to Shadow City. It felt like a good continuation, built on the characters and their arcs while also adding enough tension to make the plot continue. I never once felt like the store dragged.

You got a good bit of information on various people and characters, but there's still so much unexplained that really leaves you wan

A Novel of Riveting Conflicts and Great Rewards
Anna Mocikat’s Dark City offers the reader an intense journey that is emotionally cathartic and intellectually stimulating. While numerous well-drawn characters are compromised by their desires, none are more so than the generally hated and feared Eurydice. Her allegiances to the nefarious Dark Ones and her tutelage of Louis (who has his own issues) are jeopardized by her deep connection to Vincent. Meanwhile, Vincent carries a similarly heavy burd

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Following Shadow City, Dark City is the second book in Anna Mocikat’s trilogy. The mutants are back, and much stronger and more numerous than before. Colton appears to be suffering from some kind of illness that could result in his demise, and is linked to the shocking truth about his true identity. Vincent has fallen in love with Eurydice, a stone-cold vampire rogue hated by the Zone and working with the Dark Ones. Whose side

Overall, I will say this was a marked improvement over the first book in the trilogy. The plot was developing a bit better, the language flowed more smoothly, and the world was expanding a little. I did feel like there was a gratuitous amount of sexual encounters for a book as short as this, and they felt a bit contrived. I do not have any issues with them on principle, but these felt a little more shoe-horned in and not really necessary for story or character development.

With that said, based

Bittersweet. Anxious to find out what happens next, I couldn't consume this book fast enough, only to wish I'd taken the time to savor it more. A full range of emotions took me through the pages of this amazing book. Scenes painted so vividly I found myself submersed in the ruins of Los Angeles. Toward the end of the book, I found myself sitting on the edge of my seat, anxiously going from one chapter to the next. The anticipation kept me hooked right through to the end. If Shadow City represented the innocence of a child growing into a hero, then Dark City is the angsty teenager that has grown out of the original story. Mocikat blasts readers with the great dangers of The Zone and what’s left behind of our world. The Human-Vampire pact is always on the brink of decay as the Dark Ones work their magic to bring an end to the last survivors of our world. Delving deeper into love, hate, and betrayal, Dark City will have you thirsting for more even after you’ve turn ...more

The fight continues.

In the fight for what's left of Los Angeles, many things are unveiled. Anna Mocikat continues these wonderful series with Dark City. It holds all the drama and battles you could ever want. But be warned there is a touch of sadness too.
