The first book in the Buckhorn, Montana series, Out of the Storm packed a suspenseful punch with secrets, lies, kidnapping, betrayal, and layers of intrigue. The story follows Kate Jackson, a woman who lost her husband Danny in a work explosion. Though twenty years have passed, Kate never lost hope that Danny might be alive somewhere. Everyone told her to move on, but Kate couldn’t and solely focused on raising her daughters. Now, newly engaged and tentatively starting over with her fiancée Coll ...more

4.5 Stars: Out of the Storm is a suspenseful, edge of your seat, mystery and second chance romance. Kate Jackson's husband, Daniel, was declared dead after a refinery explosion twenty years ago. She raised their two daughters as a single mom and is finally ready to begin her life again. She is engaged to Collin and is going on an engagement trip to Canada mixing business, pleasure and wedding plans (they are picking up Kate's wedding dress). When a storm in Montana causes them to hunker down for ...more

Kate was only a teenager when she fell in love with Danny but that didn’t mean that it wasn’t enduring and true. When her husband was believed to have passed away due to a workplace accident she found herself a widow and a single mother to two young children. She picked up the pieces of her life and two decades later is engaged to another man but she has never forgotten her first love.

Collin is Kate’s fiancé and he has arranged a road trip through Montana to Canada to pick up a wedding dress he

This is my first read of 2021! I got it from Brenda Novak. This is the second year I have followed her book club. She has not steered me wrong.

This story is about Katie Jackson. Who lost her husband in a refindery accident 20 years ago. She had. two small daughters when he died. She raised them all by herself. Mia the oldest has a business of her own now. And Danialla is ready to graduate from College. She raised both girls on her own. and very proud of both of them. But she is not sure that Dan

Out of the Storm is the first book I've read by B. J. Daniels but it won't be the last. The story is a great start to the Buckhorn, Montana series with lots of tension, suspense, and edge-of-the-seat action. And add some romance to the mix and readers who enjoy the suspense-romance genre will not want to miss this one. The characters are strong, realistic and likable (well, the good guys, anyway!). I'm eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series. I listened to a library copy of the au ...more

I absolutely loved this book! Ms. Daniels has written the perfect story full of romance, suspense, and beautiful Montana. I am so excited this is first in a series and I cannot wait for my next trip back to Buckhorn, Montana.

I checked this book out of the library to read for an online book club. My honest review is not influenced in any way.

Out of the Storm by B.J. Daniels is a taut suspense about Kate, a 40-year-old woman who has been a widow for 20 years. She’d been unable to establish a new relationship until she met Collin. His persistence and kindness wore down her belief that her husband survived a tragic explosion that killed and injured hundreds. Daniels plants seeds of hope that Danny, Kate’s first love, might still be alive alongside uneasy feelings about Collin. This story’s suspense is riveting and the longing for lost ...more
Good start to the new series. It opens as Kate receives a proposal of marriage from the man she dated for the past six months. Although she accepts Collin's ring, she can't help having reservations. Twenty years earlier, Kate lost the love of her life, Danny, in a refinery explosion. His body was never identified, and she always believed that he was still alive, possibly suffering from amnesia. She still looks for his face wherever she goes, hoping that he's alive. Despite those reservations, sh ...more
Out of the Storm by BJ Daniels is an interesting book with some different elements. I like BJ Daniels as an author. Her books always catch my attention and I find myself looking forward to them.

Kate Jackson lost her husband over 20 years ago. She pulled up her bootstraps and worked hard to forge a new life for herself and her children. Over the years, she has thought she saw him numerous times, but she finally has decided to move forward. She met Collin and through time became engaged to him. H

This is a romantic suspense book and a western, all in between the pages of a compelling book. It is the story of Kate Jackson who raised her two daughters alone after a terrible explosion on an oil rig took the life of her husband Danny. Kate has always believed that Danny is still alive, but she is trying to move on with her life, even getting engaged to a new man, Collin Matthews. Setting off on an engagement trip to Montana seems adventurous until their SUV breaks down and Kate finds a man n ...more

Kate Jackson lost her husband, Danny Jackson, twenty years ago in an explosion at an oil refinery. Now, she's engaged and finally moving on. However, while on an engagement trip with her new fiancé Collin, Kate sees a man who looks just like Danny but he says his name is Jon.

This is my first B.J. Daniels book, so I didn't realise this was in the genre of suspense-romance before I started reading. It's actually a complicated and suspenseful mystery. It's very compelling and I was completely suck

Kate lost her husband to a tragic work accident twenty years ago. She’s raised two daughters and is now going to settle down with her new fiancé, but first he surprise trip to Montana to “see snow”, or so he says. Everything about this trip is off, and as the reader we know that her fiancé, Collin has ulterior motives, but we won’t find out what those are until at least halfway through the book. While in Montana, their old rental SUV breaks down in tiny town of Buckhorn and they’re stranded unti ...more

This was definitely something different and beyond the normal cookie-cutter romance!

There were a bunch of twists and thrills that had my anxiety riding on a teeter-totter. Kate was a bit obsessed to the point it seemed over the top over finding her dead husband especially after 20 years...but for some reason it really worked in this story.

I kept asking myself why the hell her fiance would put up with her actions...and all came together!

Out of the Storm by B.J. Daniels is the first novel in her new Buckhorn, Montana series, and what a way to start a new series this is, because this novel is packed with more heart, more longing, more heartfelt emotion, and more edge-of-your-seat suspense than any of the other B.J. Daniels novels I've read to date. It gets 5 "I-couldn't-put-it-down" stars from this reader.

Kate Jackson is a 39 year-old widow living in Houston, Texas. She married the love of her young life, Danny, when she was just

First book of the series, and first book I’ve read by Ms Daniels...WOW! This is a page turner with many twists I wasn't expecting. The characters are very realistic. Being from Montana and having spent time in northeast Montana I know the towns are small, and the descriptions of Buckhorn are spot on. It would definitely be a good place to hide from “the mob”. I am excited to read the next book in this series, which I’ve already ordered. If you are looking for a good suspenseful mystery, with a l ...more

This is a contemporary romantic suspense in which Kate Jackson has finally agreed to marry her persistent ‘boyfriend’, Collin, deciding to take a chance again, after twenty years of waiting for her beloved husband, Daniel, to return. Daniel was declared dead after being involved in a huge refinery explosion but she’s never believed it. This book was for a club read. Not one I would have picked up myself but so glad I found a new author. It centers around Kate who lost her husband in a refinery explosion 20 years before. But since the body was never found, Kate still believes he is out there somewhere – possibly with amnesia. She refuses to move on. That is until she meets a new man who takes her on a trip to celebrate their engagement. Their car breaks down in Buckhorn, Montana and it there that Kate sees someone who looks lik ...more
