Rate this book

4.5 yummy firefighter Stars

I love Claudia Connor and I love her books. After reading Worth the Risk, I wanted Hannah Walker's four yummy brothers to each get books. Then Worth the Wait came out(Nick's Book) and I was so excited to read it, until I read it. It was a total disappointment to me. So when I seen Zach's book on Netgalley I was a bit leery to get it. I love Claudia Connor's books so much I figured Nick's book was just a fluke and decided to give Zach a try. I was right Waiting for you was such a good read. I just loved it so hard.

Zach was everything I ever loved in a Claudia Connor hero. He was sexy, strong, sweet, caring, loyal and had just enough of a damaged soul that he made you want to kiss it and make it better. Nora also had some issues from her past, but she was smart, capable and very likable. Zach and Nora was very sweet together, but Zach and Nora's son Will melted my heart. I was really glad there wasn't a ton of drama in this book. Overall I loved it and I can't wait the read Luke's book.

Claudia Connor is pretty much the only author that I read who writes sweet romances. And she excels at writing the best single parent romances available. Her debut novel Worth the Fall is still one of my all time favorite novels ever.

Because the way she writes swoony alpha heroes around kids is ADDICTING and ADORABLE!!

From swoony hero to adorable baby boy, to hardworking mother – Waiting for You was the perfect novel that gave me all the sweet, fluffy and light hearted feel I was hoping for.

If you love any of the above – you’ll adore this novel.

The author truly knows how to write a hero that melts your heart. These big strapping alpha male turned mush when he was around his woman and in close proximity to her baby boy. And I couldn’t get enough of it.

The story worked with its simple and straight forward formula. A commitment phope, and perpetual single guy falling hard for a single mom. This successful formula checks all my boxes. The author reliably delivers storylines with endearing and charming family gatherings, and wonderful scenes between family members. There is always lots of female support and good natured ribbing between the guys. A truly feel good novel, that should be on anyone’s reading list.

There was just one aspect I thought the author let fall through the gaps. There was this one firefighter Riley, who was mentioned all the time until chapter 16 when he suddenly fell off the grid. He had a kind of important role to play, and Zach had a major reaction to a situation that involved Riley, but the author never resolved the issue, never mentioned what happened to Riley, it left this huge hole in the story. It was noticeable and a little jarring.

But besides that Waiting for You was a wonderful addition to the McKinney/Walker Brothers series and a solid performance by the author.

Lieutenant and firefighter Zach Walker rescues a drunk driver and takes him to the ER. But when his new recruit gets distracted and lets the impaired patient injure the attractive attending nurse, Zach feels responsible and checks up on Nora Sellers. She’s a single mother of a ten-month old boy and in a new home, a real fixer upper that could use Zach’s handyman skills.

I loved this heartwarming story of two people who had every reason to be wary of commitment and trusting in the long term aspects of a relationship. Zach’s parents were killed by a drunk driver when he was barely fifteen years old and Nora’s mother died when she was just seven. His older brother took on the care of him and his three other siblings and her father checked out and left her in the care of a long and unending string of resentful girlfriends. Nora and Zach just didn’t have the ability to trust their own feelings about each other, even though it was clear to everyone around them that their relationship was something different and special.

Connell is the one author I can count on to include children in a romance and always make it work. Because both Nora and Zach were so cautious, we were treated to a long, slowly developing relationship between the three of them that was just wonderful. In this age of insta love, it was a welcome change. I liked both of them, the family they created and the personal growth they achieved as they explored each other and themselves. And, all the McKinneys and Walkers are part of this story in all the right ways. It was a lovely reading experience.

It was a sweet story apart from the parade of his exes in the small town he and the heroine lived.
I mean, if the fact, that many OWs saw her man’s junk, didn’t bother the heroine, then she’s got her HEA and jeez.
On the other hand it could be cool, e.g. she could chat about his intimate parts with some of his exes while grocery shopping, or at the coffee shop or just middle of the street.

It’s a shame he didn’t take the line ‘don’t shit where you eat’ seriously.

Cute kid. Safe. She wasn’t a doormat, but he was a manwhore.
We can’t have it all…

Waiting for You is book 2 in the McKinney/Walker Brothers series, and it is about Zach Walker. This one was hard for me to rate because I struggled at the very beginning because I just couldn’t feel the connection between firefighter Zach and ER Nurse Nora. It did get better for me, and I adored Zach, especially his relationship with Nora’s son, Will. Of course, Nora got on my nerves, but all in all, she was likeable.

I loved seeing the Walker/McKinney clan get together, especially with their kids. We finally get a glimpse of Luke Walker, and I have my fingers crossed he is the next book.

This is a spin off from Walker series. I do enjoy Worth the Fall. Miss Connor always gives her hero a enduring quality which is fatherhood. Not some sort of jerk cocky alpha male. On this spin off, Waiting for You, i found it a bit subdue.

The story is more like Bella Andre books. Min angst, beach read quality. Not much of twist and drama surrounding it. Nora is a likeable heroine. There is always a children involved in miss Connor books. The secondary characters also not providing any contribution towards the story. Just a background/ introduction to the next book.

It is an easy read for my humid weekend.

Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) provided by the Author and Publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an fair and honest review.

Real, authentic, Family, no angst and totally wonderful. There are many variations to the Romance Novel and most of them I can do without. Claudia Connor has a lock on the Family Romance in all its' shapes and forms. She is simply the best at portraying a large, caring family with all its warts and all its' beauty. I've read all her books and loved them all.

Zach Walker is, or was, quite the ladies man. Love em' and leave em' happy and satisfied. This bachelor fireman has no place in his life for long-term commitment. He has a big extended family and sees no need for a family of his own. Except, he gets a yean at times and the good book or solitary walk just doesn't seem as fulfilling as it once did, neither does the endless parade of women. He's at a point in his life where he wants . . . more.

Nora Sellers has a past that has taught her to depend on no one, except herself. She trusted a man once and has now ended up as a single mother to her 10 month son Will. She is not about to make that mistake again. She has always wanted roots and community and has found that in the small community outside Norfolk, VA. Her job as a nurse is fulfilling and the fixer-upper house she has bought, while needing a total overhaul, is hers and she plans to stay put and raise Will there. No man required.

The love story of Zach and Nora is so sweet and it is wonderful to watch two people, with tall barriers around their hearts, grow and reach out to each other and find that rare gift of true love.

4.5 stars

This is the first time that I have read Claudia Connor. I was pleasantly surprised and happy that I found this story and decided to give it a shot. She wrote a story that pulled on my heart, had me smiling and looking forward to coming back for more. Nora and Zachs story was sweet and tender in places, a little rough in others but turned out to be a truly romantic read.

Zach has a habit of feeling guilty about everything. When Nora gets hurt because of an order he gave, he can't help but feel responsible. But, she's one to stand on her own and it takes a lot of persuading for her to finally let him help her. When he see's the way she is living with her precious son, he can't help but want to help her out any way that he can. When he see's the kind of person she is … how strong and independent she is, he can't help but feel more than friendship for her. Now, he has to find it in him to forgive himself for the past, to realize that he is a bigger man than he thinks he is and to allow himself to love.

Nora doesn't “need” anyone to help her. But, when sexy firefighter Zach offers, she can't help but say yes. Well, after a little convincing. She is starting to rely on him and that scares her. He says he is not fit for a relationship, not deserving. But, she sees the other side of him … the sweet side, the caring side, the loving side. There is so much more to him than the sexy firefighter. Now, he has to see it in himself. But, until he does, she can't help but to ask him for a break. She can't fall in love and risk her heart and her son on a man who doesn't see a future with her.

I was enthralled with Zach and how he treated Nora and Will. He may have had doubts but he definitely stole my heart as well as Nora's. And Nora truly was a strong woman. With her background, she could have been ornery and nasty but took life and it's bumps in stride and moved forward.

Claudia Connor really won me over with this story. You don't know what you're going to read when it's a new-to-you author and you actually smile when you realize that you are not going to be disappointed. She wrote interesting characters and a story that flowed. I loved the supporting characters and the parts they played in the story and with getting them together. Zach had a wonderful family both at and out of the firehouse. She wrote sweet times, she wrote sexy times and definitely fun times. Zach stole my breath, Nora had my respect but Will stole my heart.

It is hard for me to describe with words the warm fuzzy feeling I always get with a Claudia Conner book. I get such a strong feeling and visual image. For me it's like slipping into a really warm bubble bath on a cold winter's evening, with candle light, no kids bothering you, a really good book and all the time you want to soak and relax.
Zach and Nora are both a little skittish about getting involved in a relationship, but they slip into it seamlessly, without really noticing. While there is a bit of conflict, the only true angst for me is trying to keep all the McKinneys and Walkers straight in my head. I love how Conner's books are so family oriented, especially the heroes being great examples of what a partner should look like. A real pleasure to read.

There is just something about Ms. Connor and this series that leaves me with a Happy Face & Goofy Smile.

The McKinney/Walker is one of my favourite series and when I saw this on Netgalley I just had to request it.

Zach Walker firefighter a slight commitment phobe a reformed manho still hasn't processed what happened to his sister Hannah. But he meets his game changer. Nora Sellers.

I loved Zach, he is a knight in tarnished armour.

Nora Sellers has been alone all her life and it is hard for her to trust people and put down roots with an incident at the hospital where she works she meets the one man that will change everything. Zach Walker.

I docked a star because I wasn't a fan of Nora but she grew on me and we became friends, we shall never be best buds though.

Waiting for You is a heartfelt romance full of feelz, sweet with an adorable baby (I'm a sucker for single parents, like catnip peeps) that will most likely melt the coldest of hearts.

A must read!

spoilers ahead, 2.5* Almost 3

After book 1 I was hesitant as hell to start this one but I've got a reformed manwhore.....who's been reformed for years. I'll take it.
Yeah so his past is getting in my face too much....we're told he was a player years ago but then we run into two different women he'd been "casual" with, one just a year ago. Wtf either he's a manwhore or a former manwhore but my stomach is churning. #stillreading
They've been out together exactly 3 times - one was above with OW he'd been with around, one was to a family outing and now AGAIN the only other time they're in public and we're tripping over another woman he'd been with. My rating is sliding down rapidly.....considering I'm bored as hell while this dude makes up his mind whether or not he's got the balls to actually date like a grown-up and I'm already fed up. #stillreading
OW from above creates a tiny bit of drama

Actual review

Nora is an ER nurse and single parent to a 10 month old son. She meets Zach in the ER when a drunk driver becomes violent and Nora accidentally injures her hand.
When Zach accompanies her home he realizes her fixer upper house needs a lot more attention than she's capable of giving at that time. He offers assistance and before long he's falling for Nora and her adorable little boy,but they've both got hurts from the past and Nora's dad brings up old fears making her pull away from Zach. Will the man who's never wanted a commitment have what it takes to fight for the woman and child he wants?

*********
Positives
I LOVE kids in romances and this author always does that well
Seeing Zach with Will
Matt and Abby and their SEVEN kids lol

Negatives
Zach's past
The stupid separation at like 90% with The eventual reconciliation rush to the end. This is something I personally can't stand
Slow moving plot for the first 50% maybe
Zach's inability to communicate

This wasn't bad it was bland with a dash of cute, I'd rate it 3* generally but Zach's history with women left a bad taste in my mouth. Had it been in the past without the encounters with the women to remind me I'd have been a lot more forgiving....unfortunately those encounters lowered my rating

I'm seriously irked by one point.....how old are these people???? Were we given their ages I have no clue!

No cheating
h had been with her ex but he turned out to be married and didn't want her child, nothing after him
H had been a known player but seemed to have slowed down maybe a year previously
A little bit of OW drama

Another yummy Walker brother bites the dust. He falls for lovely Norah and her adorable son, Will. Of course, there's personal angst and some hot sex (took a while to get there). Great story with lots of interaction and "help" from the McKinnery/Walker clan. Can't wait to see what happens with Luke, and where is Dallas?

Timeline of me and Waiting For You:

Monday, 10PM - check Goodreads before going to bed, see fellow reviewer is "Currently Reading - Waiting For You", comment how jealous I am, ponder how she got a review copy, pop online to see if it was added after I checked NetGalley earlier in the day, see it IS available!!!, request a copy, go to sleep with fingers crossed
Tuesday, 12:05PM - receive ARC approval email from NetGalley, have this reaction:

4PM - drive home from work like a bat out of a cave, begin reading while putting on comfy clothes, continue reading while heating up leftovers, reluctantly put book down while eating dinner with the family, ignore family for the rest of the night, finish at 1:45AM.

There are very few authors on my drop everything non-essential in life and stay up until 2AM to read her new book list. Claudia Connor is at the top. Every single story Claudia writes grips my heart and doesn’t let go for days, and Waiting For You has done the same. Her heroes are make-your-knees-weak swoony, and her heroines smart. The stories are heartfelt and compelling, and I LOVE THEM ALL!

Firefighter Zach Walker has spent the past keeping things light and fun, from his friends at work to his relationships with women. After losing his parents at 15, then living through a horrific ordeal with his younger sister, he’s had enough heavy and serious to last a lifetime. Recently though, the revolving door of women has lost its appeal. When he meets nurse Nora Sellers, something inexplicably pulls him to her.

Nora has a new job, an old house, and a 10 month old son. When she gets hurt at work, she manages to attract the attention of Zach. Try as she might to shake him loose, she isn’t able to. Which is a good thing, since her injury makes caring for her son difficult, and also her house is two steps past the fixer upper stage. Thankfully, she’s not too proud to accept the help she desperately needs. (This was SUCH a refreshing change from the status quo heroine of today, a la “she protests, the alpha hero grunts and bulldozes his way in”...and I love that Ms. Connor doesn’t go that route with her characters.)

The more time Zach and Nora spend together, the more their thoughts about their futures are challenged. Zach has never thought of himself as a husband or father, but every second he spends with Nora and Will shows him that could be a possibility. And Nora, who never had someone in her life to show her the love and loyalty she deserves, considers taking a chance on Zach. Watching Zach and Nora fall in love, and learn to have a fuller life than they were expecting, was beautiful and lovely.

I’m always a bit anxious whenever I start a new book by a beloved author. There’s always the chance my expectations will be unmet, that I’ll end up disappointed. But that has never happened with Claudia Connor. Her stories contain just the right amount of conflict to keep things compelling, but never veers into unnecessary angst. Her storytelling pulls me in and captures me, and doesn’t let go until days after I’ve finished. She has the swooniest heroes ever - unbelievably kind, caring and compassionate, yet completely manly and totally macho, and they never veer into alpha male ridiculousness. Her heroines are smart and sweet, but also possess an internal strength despite the hardships they’ve faced.

I could gush on and on about all of Ms. Connor’s books! Instead, I’ll just tell you these are the best kind of romance stories - with enough realism to make things believable, but enough escapism to make you happy sigh, and enough humor sprinkled in to balance out the heavy. I frequently wish Claudia would write faster, publish books more often. But she doesn’t. Instead, I just read her books over and over. And I’m okay with that, too.

4.5 'Living More Than The Moment' Stars

Awww.... Nobody does 'single mom/broken hero' quite like Claudia Connor... No one! Waiting For You proves just that, and is right up there with my all time single mom book, Worth The Fall. Heart pulling emotional, incredibly sweet and sexy and oh so realistic in ALL THE FEELS of its characters, that it transports us right to their world. And what a world it is with the likes of these Walker/McKinney men!!!

Zack, Nora and little Will completely and utterly stole my heart, both of them thought themselves broken - and maybe they were indeed - but that just made them the perfect match in every way. The three of them couldn't have been more PERFECT together. A true family.

Who doesn't love to see the big strong man, that thinks himself broken beyond repair, and with no hope for a future, fall for not only the single mom, but the little one just as much?! Ms. Connor gives us just that in the best of ways, she indeed writes this trope in the most perfect and naturally seeming manner, - case in point, the first of The McKinney Brothers series , Worth the Fall. Matt... Swoon..... - leaving us feeling every single of these characters emotions, hopes and desires. Truly a gift! And getting to see my fav Matt McKinney, and the rest of the Walker/McKinney gang as cameo, it just made it even better! I can't wait to see the rest of the Walker, specially Luke, fall!! Counting down the days now... ;) <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

Zach Walker is almost too good to be true, he is drop dead gorgeous, single and wears a uniform every day in his job as a firefighter. And yes ladies, he is as hot as the guys on those fireman calendars. As you can imagine, this level of hotness means he has had his pick of the ladies in town. So much so that he almost can’t avoid bumping into an ‘ex’ whenever he is out and about.

After being called out to a routine car accident on duty one night he meets Nora, a new nurse working at the ER. Unfortunately, she gets injured trying to tend to Zach’s patient. You see, Nora is a single mum, new to town and this injury could not come at a worse time. Her son is still a baby and she is in the midst of trying to unpack, whilst making a start on her growing list of DIY needed on her house.

Zach feels terrible about Nora’s injury, it wasn’t his fault but nevertheless he can see she is going to need some help for a while. Zach grew up with lots of siblings and he has a ridiculous amount of nieces & nephews so he knows what he is doing around kids.

When Zach knocks on Nora’s door she is surprised to see him again. She is also embarassed. She is a fiercely independent person and is used to just getting on with things. She has never had anyone she can really rely upon so accepting any for of help is not something she is all the comfortable with. Nevertheless, Zach manages to forge his way into her life and he is fantastic with her son Will.

Zach really can’t figure out what is going on. He is completely drawn to Nora and he adores Will. He has never really entertained the idea of a committed relationship but being with Nora has him rethinking that now. He’s pretty sure he is falling love. His family is completely on board the Nora & Will bus too, in fact they want concession tickets.

Putting her trust into someone makes Nora nervous, it’s not just her, she has Will to consider too.. She knows she is falling, and falling fast. She needs to take pause and really think about the big picture here. Is she ready to share her heart with someone and trust they will take care of it?

I have read every book from this wonderful author and she is definitely one that I automatically 1-click on. Before even reading the blurb I just know I will enjoy any story she publishes. This book was no exception ☺

There's nothing like a good, warm, heartfelt romance, and I love that I can count on Connor to deliver exactly that with every new release. I'm a big fan of The McKinney/Walker Brothers and have enjoyed each book - although I must admit that Nick & Mia stole my heart in Worth the Wait. And here's where I'll go ahead and say you're going to want to indulge in all these books in order of release. The author does an outstanding job of filling in the background in each additional book, meaning they can be read as standalones; however, you're cheating yourself out of some great romance stories and characters if you don't read in order and enjoy them all!

Waiting For You is Zach Walker and Nora Sellers story. Zach is a firefighter, and Nora is a single mother and nurse working the ER when they meet. Zach accompanies the EMT's bringing in a belligerent male suspected of DUI who's been involved in a car crash. Things get out of hand, and Nora is accosted and hurt. Zach feels responsible and insists on driving the nurse and her 10 month old baby (Will) home. As this story unfolds, Zach and Nora engage in an age-old dance around one another even as they hold each other at arm's length . . . each for their own reasons. Zach's gorgeous face and drool-worthy body belong on a Firefighter of the Month calendar - a fact supported by his "never spend the night" but "always treat them right" ladies man reputation. But more importantly, Zach's a conflicted man - one haunted by what he sees as a failure on his part to protect family members in the past. He may be attracted to the lovely nurse, but he knows she and her son deserve someone better. Nora is a single mom who's been burned once - a woman with trust and family issues of her own who refuses to rely on any man to ensure her and her son's future. Having experienced the hurt of being let down in the past, she won't risk it again. So is a friendship the only thing in their future?

Waiting For You is very much a story of family and commitments as readers will see examples of both the good and the bad play out in this one. It's a warm, heartfelt story about forgiving both others and yourself and opening the door to trust again. The support cast is strong with appearances by several other McKinney/Walker couples from past stories. I loved the interaction and family dynamics that played out and was thrilled to catch up with past couples in this story. While I would have liked a little more depth of story and plot in this book, I greatly enjoyed the characters and their quest for happiness. As always, Connor brings the emotions and heat to this romance as well as a side of funny banter making Waiting For You another Must Read in an awesome series. And I might add . . . there's nothing sexier than a gorgeous hunk falling head over heels over an adorable baby! You don't want to miss this one!

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

Claudia Connor's books are always a delight. They are the perfect romance books for when you want something sweet and sincere to lift your mood. In Waiting For You the second in the McKinney/Walker series we are treated to a gorgeous fireman hero Zach Walker as he falls for ER nurse Nora as well as her young son.

If you've read previous books by Connor, which you really should, then you will recognise Zach as the playboy of the Walker family and over protective brother of a previous heroine (and younger brother of a previous hero). So, when I started this I was expecting it to be about 'taming' the bad boy/play boy hero, which isn't a trope I am a fan of, but I love Connor's books so I was willing to take a chance. I am so glad that I did. Zach was far more nuanced than I expected and there was no 'taming' needed. Like all Connor heroes he was kind, caring and loyal, but had his own demons holding him back from ever making a true commitment to a woman.

Nora is a hardworking single mum who has learnt only to rely on herself. She was strong, loyal and loving, and so self reliant that learning to trust someone else, especially a man, takes time. I loved Zach and Nora together, the almost-slow burn relationship between them was lovely. Both characters were wary of love and relationships, so watching them build a friendship - fraught as it was with sexual tension - made the romance feel strong. Also, the scenes with Will, Nora's son, made this book too adorable. If you are looking for a sweet and sexy read, you need to give this book and this author a try.

Consiglio questo libro a chi ha voglia di una storia in cui si affrontano le paure peggiori e in cui il nemico numero uno sono i personaggi stessi, in cui c’è tanta speranza e la voglia di avere una vita migliore.

FINALLY - The First FIVE STAR REVIEW for 2019 from Happily Ever Chapter!

I can’t believe it’s been two years since Nick’s book came out and I was shocked, surprised, and THRILLED to see a new McKinney/Walker coming out! The cover has the same sepia wash tone that the first book did and fits well into her series. Visually, the cover does not pop, but if you’ve read any of this author’s books, you’ll be watching for her name and won’t care about the covers anyway!

POV ~> Third person

Claudia Connor is an amazing storyteller. Her characters are so down-to-Earth with realistic qualities, good and bad, that make them relatable and reader is easily able to form attachments to them.
Zach Walker: Second-oldest Walker boy, Lieutenant firefighter, commitment-phobic, former player but would now rather enjoy a quiet night at home. Confident at work, but past guilts and self-doubt clouds his worth as partner, brother, and/or father.
Nora Sellers: ER nurse, single mom to infant son, Will. Abandonment and trust issues after mom died and dad basically checked himself out. Independent. New home owner, though it’s little more than a money pit fixer-upper. She’s determined to settle in and put roots down, for her son’s sake.
These two meet while both on shift. Zach bringing in a probable DUI, a combative turn causes Nora to become injured when the rookie makes a mistake, leaving Zach feeling incredibly guilty… again. His guilt, plus an attraction to the fiercely independent woman, has him returning to the ER later to “check on her” and “apologize”. From there, he can’t seem to stay away from her, he’s drawn to her and her son. Finding excuses to help her out with minor repairs and/or maintenance, they slowly develop a friendship. The relationship is a very slow burn type thing that develops on its own and against their supposed will.
Add the McKinney and Walker clan to the firehouse comrades and nurse’s station and you’ve mostly got the cast lineup for this story. Almost all of the cast are lovable. Catching up with the families was fun. I honestly don’t think there was anything about this story that I did not like. Predictability was low and the conclusion was solid. The tease at the end of the book about book 3 has me dying for its release now, too!
Another fantastic book by this must-read author!

WOW!!!!!!! Oh my god! I’m in love with this book, these characters and Claudia. This amazing 6 star story had me hooked with the blurb. A firefighter and a nurse.

Zack has been staying away from commitment and attachement. That is until he meets Nora, an er nurse. But Nora comes with a little baby boy Will. Zack never thought they were his futur. Nora is not ready to commit to another relationship but how can she not fall in love with him.

This story has special meaning for me, first as nurse myself. By the way the medical and nursing knowledge were spot on. Second, I love firefighters, Zack reminded me of Matt Casey in Chicago Fire. This story was written with heart and soul. Her storyline captured my undivided attention all throughout. Beautifully written with an addicting plot. I’ve read every book that this author as ever written so it was nice to see where the other previous characters were at.

What I look for in a story in order for me to love it, are the characters. They were perfectly created for this story. I love Will because children in stories just makes them so much sweeter. Bottomline in this a 2019 must read.

Told in the third person with an amazing HEA. I can’t wait for Luke’s story. I strongly recommend this story. It can safely be read as a standalone.

A single mother starting over, and a sexy firefighter with a heart of gold. It’s another sweet and swoony read from Claudia Connor.

Book #2 in the McKinney/Walker brothers series, be aware that this book will be a little bit spoilery for earlier books, but it can easily standalone.

Zach is one of the Walker brothers featured in this series (younger brother of Nick, older brother of Hannah). Like his siblings, he was left scarred by the death of their parents when he was a teenager, and then by the tragic events endured by his little sister. He has created a good life for himself, and has a fun-loving nature, but he has closed himself off to the idea of long-term commitment and a family, knowing that he’s not equipped be that person.

Nora is new in town and is building a new life for herself and her 10-month old son, Will. She’s had a difficult life, but she’s determined to create a loving and stable home for herself and her boy, which includes renovations on the broken-down fixer-upper that she’s bought.

Zach and Nora meet in the ER one night. Nora is an ER nurse and when Zach brings in an injured, drunken man, Nora gets caught in the crossfire and is injured. Zach’s guilt over the incident drives him right to Nora’s side, and when he learns that she is a single mother with no real supports in town, he is determined to help her out as much as he can.

It’s a fun set-up, and all kinds of sweet as Zach plants himself into Nora’s life. And it’s not just guilt over her injury, he is wildly attracted to Nora, and it’s clear she’s just as in to him, so he’s keen to be around her at every available opportunity. It’s cute and flirty, but they both tread carefully and so we get this slow-burning attraction that builds really nicely.

More than anything, she wanted someone to want her as much as she wanted them.

It’s Zach’s relationship with little Will that really had me melting though, as we see this big, strong firefighter turn into mush for the little boy.

Will, who’d immediately began bouncing with excitement at the sight of him, let out a squeal of joy and lunged.
Zach caught him, returning the boy’s hug. If that didn’t make a man feel like a hero, nothing would.

It takes a while for things to get really started between Zach and Nora, and when it does, it’s sweet and sexy, and really freaking cute as Nora and Will are adopted into the extended McKinney/Walker clan, and Zach finds himself in a real relationship for the first time. But they both have demons from the past that they haven’t dealt with, and their inability to communicate about what they’re feeling and what they want leads to drama and heartache (and, eventually, a hilarious ‘come to Jesus’ moment with Hannah).

“Why the hell don’t you all just say what you mean?”
“You’re one to talk. You’re in love with her, and you didn’t even tell her.”

It’s such a lovely romance, but it’s a bit annoying at the same time. They never really talk about what they’re doing and what they want, and the drama is not necessary and frustratingly avoidable, but thankfully it’s short-lived and resolved quickly when Zach and Nora confront their issues and claim their HEA.

“You changed me. I love you so much there’s no room for fear.”

I enjoyed this book, and am looking forward to reading Luke's story up next.

3.5 stars.

This author's books are few and far between but when she publishes a book you can bet that it is going to give you all the feels and make you fall in love with romance books.

I loved this series. The previous book, Nick and Mia, oh my word. And now this one. Loved it
Zach met Nora at the ER when he brought a guy in from a car crash, things got a bit out of hand and Nora got hurt. Zach feeling bad insisted on driving her and her baby home.
Nora is a single mom, new in town and she is working to make a better life for her and her son. So when Zach comes along and pushes his way into her life, she is not on board. She is independent and devoted to her son and her job. And she does not have the time for a romance. But the more she is around Zach the more she can't help her attraction to him.

But Zach has his job set out to convince this independent women that she needs someone like him in her life. Someone that will take care of her and her baby but also someone that will be her
partner, someone that she can count on and someone that will make her and her son his priority.

I love stories that is filled with a couple starting out, getting to know each other, and the rest of the family jumping on board to help them get their happily ever after. This is for me the best thing about this authors books. Love, Romance, family, low angst, definitely chemistry and a guy that will have your heart melting from the start to the finish of this book.
