Bran isn't without fault, and though I'm not the biggest fan of Leah (Mercy is my girl and I want to throw hands at anyone who is mean to her, lol), but other than being guarded towards him (for good reason), I feel like Bran's treatment of her is a big reason why she is the way she is. That doesn't excuse her behavior of course, but it is important to note. I think that while Bran isn't IN LOVE with Leah in the way Charles+Anna/Mercy+Adam are, she does fulfill the role of the Marrok's mate, i.e. loyalty, and what she did at the end of Wild Sign. She's what he needs and what he doesn't need is a great love. He's had that and we know what happened when he lost that. Now he (and the pack) need someone strong. I think Leah has always felt that since he wasn't IN LOVE with her, he didn't care for her at all -- very black and white thinking -- but emotions are complicated. I think if she had known that he doesn't hate her and feels respect towards her from the jump, she maybe wouldn't have been so horrible. I mean, it's sad that she loves him in a way that he doesn't love her, but she let that eat her up, so much so that she hates his own children. How can someone truly love someone who hates their own flesh and blood. It's honestly a bit of a mess, and Leah is not the only one at fault here. I think the best outcome would be similar to present day arranged marriages that are successful and come from a place of respect and high regard. (less)

4.5 stars. On sale this week! Final review, first posted on FantasyLiterature.com:

The Call of the Wild (Singer):

A woman goes hiking with her dog in the northern California mountains, searching for the hidden settlement her father calls home. After a long search she finds the encampment — really a small town — but her father is gone, along with every other person who lived in Wild Sign. Some time later, two FBI agents pay a surprise visit to Anna and Charles Cornick in Aspen Creek, Montana. The a

Back to the Mercyverse!! One of my favorite fantasy worlds ever!

As an Alpha and Omega novel, we know Charles and Anna are frontpage. Ana, the Omega that has stabilized Bran's pack of unstable powerful werewolves and Charles, Bran's son, the enforcer. If Charles shows up, you know someone has misbehaved and death is close. Charles is only different around Ana. She sees parts of him that no one else does.

So what's Wild Sign about?

A new threat.

The FBI comes knocking (literally) on Charles and Ana

Wow, this was intense!!!!

Again, the author wrote an unputdownable story. Full of magic, and also some very fascinating revelations. And as always, whenever I read a new book by Patricia Briggs I get completely sucked into the story and world, and the wait for the next book seems awfully long.

Also Anna was my favorite character this time. She impressed the hell out of me!

I don't like that much the urban fantasy genre with its thick skinned heroines and its outmoded furry or blood thirsty creatures. But I am a huge fan of Anna and Charles. Alpha and Omega defies the laws of the genre, or rather, redefines them. I like how gentle, generous and caring Anna is, which doesn't mean she is weak or naive, rather the contrary. I also like that she is not a great beauty or a drama queen with a harem of men at her disposal. Above all, I find very original the whole concept ...more

It was not a bad idea to remind your enemy of who you are.

Or it could just as well be, "I am Woman, hear me roar!" I haven't been enamored with the Alpha & Omega series even though I have read all six books to see what was occurring elsewhere within the Mercy Thompson world. So Wild Sign took me by surprise because IMHO it's the best one in this series. I believe that enough background has been provided so that it can be read as a standalone, but one's emotional reactions to the character

This was a mixed bag for me. The beginning was good and I was intrigued by the mystery and then the book slowed down for about 100 pages. Not sure why it felt like it dragged but it seemed to take forever to get to the final confrontation. I was getting to the 250 page mark and I felt like nothing was going anywhere. The final 50 pages and the epilogue were good though.

I think what’s been bugging me about the last two Briggs books is that I feel like she’s retconning her own series. In the last

The Alpha and Omega series is one of my all-time favorites! It’s one of those series you just know you’ll re-read over and over, and relish! This is a series that is best read in order, and if you haven’t started it, go now, and get the novella prequel! You’re in for a treat!

Bran sends Charles, Anna and Tag off to investigate when a whole off-the-grid sort of community disappears from Northern California and there are hints that supernatural forces were at work.

I’ve loved Anna and Charles toget

"Charles belonged to Anna with all his complicated soul and uncomplicated heart."

I have been on a journey with Anna and Charles for almost a decade, and I don't see myself leaving them anytime soon. Wild Sign is another amazing addition to the Alpha & Omega series, I honestly just can't get enough of the complex and intriguing characters in the Marrok's pack. Wow, doesn’t it feel like absolute ages since this series has had a new book? It honestly hasn’t been that long, but I did have trouble finding my footing when I started this book. Because of the wait, I felt like a lot of the previous events were forgotten and Briggs doesn’t really catch readers up very much with this book, so I had to go back and try to remember a lot of what has happened. That being said, I do think it’s best if the series is read in order. You’ll get a much better under

Wow this entry of Charles’s and Anna story really scored with me and I think with most readers thus far. I think it’s because we get much more of the inner workings of Charles (aka Brother Wolf) and we also get a reminder of how far they (He and Anna) have come both individually and together. Or it could be because so few of my favorite writers are publishing right now. Either way the prospect of getting this book and the hours of escape I desperately need right now was so exciting, I forked ove ...more

Anna and her husband Charles, both werewolves, are informed by the FBI that someone is squatting on pack land in northern California, and that something strange is going on there. They travel down from Montana with another pack member, and find that there are no people left, but it's evident that something horrible has happened. Were witches involved? Are any of the residents still alive? What kind of malevolent spirits are Charles and Anna sensing? This is the kind of book that transports the r ...more

Thanks to Netgalley and Berkley for providing me with an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I'm going to start with some brutal honesty. I love the Mercy Thompson books, I really do, but Anna's books just seem to have created a mate bond with me. They're something special, for sure, and I pretty much always love them in their entireties. Don't get me wrong, as I said a second ago, I do so adore the Mercy books as well, but whenever a new Alpha & Omega book comes out, I get more excit

4.5 Stars. I really enjoyed this one; the adventure, the mysticism, and the outright weirdness. Charles and Anna are sent to investigate the sudden disappearance of a group of people living in a settlement far away from civilization; living on land that just happens to belong to Leah, Bran’s disagreeable mate. What starts out as a road trip to the great outdoors to solve a vague mystery soon turns into a harrowing ordeal full of twists and turns...and evil.

Damn fine storytelling here. Oh, and Le

Wild Sign on Books On Track

Anna and Charles are back in an adventure that brings to light the story of how Leah became Bran's mate.

The story starts with the FBI knocking on Anna's door with questions about some land that Leah owns, where a whole village of people who had been living off grid disappeared from. Given that Leah was the only survivor of something really bad that happened at the same place when Bran found her many years ago, he is worried that he same evil might be responsible for th

Um, we need to talk about that last chapter and epilogue! I need my GR friends that have read all the prior books in the Mercy series and this Anna series to read this book ASAP, please and thank you.

Random non-spoiler thoughts:
- Chapter 5 (especially via the audiobook) basically broke my heart.
- The new “enemy” of this book is seriously messed up and I am still not sure how it existed in the first place or who/what defeated it (or if it was defeated?)
- The last sentence of chapter 13!

Trigger warning: Rape, incest, child trafficking.

I told myself that I would only read another book in this series if I borrowed it via the library. Looks like I was smart to do so. What to say. The book drags. Badly. Briggs totally retconned Bran and Leah's whole relationship. I thought I was hallucinating stuff and went back to some of the older Mercy and "Alpha & Omega" books to make sure I had things right. Did I mention the book drags? And there's a lot of rape/incest happening in this one.

The 6th installment of Alpha & Omega. Well-known characters do their thing. It‘s a bit like eating comfort food. You know what your‘re getting, it‘s enjoyable, mostly safe and entertaining.

The FBI shows up at the doorstep of Anna and Charles and asks for help. A village in the mountains has disappeared and something potentially evil lurks in the woods.

Solid story telling with a decent plot, told from various POVs, with slightly overlapping timelines at chapter endings and beginnings. We finally

Ok, so I can freely speak of the book now. I'm not sure I like doing ARC's, lol. So two things. One that ticked me off and one that made me squeal and reanimated my interest in this series.

My ticked off; Brother Wolf tells Charles that he learned to speak to Anna bc Bran had told him that he regretted not learning Blue Jay Womans language. If he had he might have been able talk her out of having the baby, thus saving her life. Uhh, you just told your son that you regret

This Anna and Charles adventure told the story I’ve been wanting to hear for a while. It actually had several revelations and set the stage for lots more to happen—in both the larger world and personally for Anna and Charles— in future books. Which is great, because I love this series and don’t want it to end. I can’t wait to see how the events of this book affect the next Mercy book, because one thing at least definitely will.

It was wonderful to be back with Charles and Anna in Wild Sign by Patricia Briggs, the sixth Alpha & Omega novel. Whether you read or listen to the narration by Holter Graham, you’ll find Briggs delivered a suspenseful five star tale.

Yay! My first five star read for 2021. A completely gripping read about Charles and Anna Cornick, wolf shifters, and their encounter with an ancient evil power. The storyline is fast-moving and enthralling, although a bit scary in parts. Some beloved secondary characters also play a strong role in the book, and there is a little bit of crossover with Briggs' other related series, Mercy Thompson.

Briggs is at the top of her game in this book IMO. Well-plotted, and gives some lovely glimpses of Ch
