Review of “The Frozen Rainbow” by Astrid Foss

It’s the third book from the “Snow Sisters” series written by Astrid Foss. The story focuses on the journey of three sisters to look for their missing parents. The Romanian version of the book is published by the Paralela 45 Publishing House in 2022, Pitești and it was translated from English into Romanian by Diana Geacăr, author of the novel “What Do Dragons See”.
The author attracts the readers through her unique style that can be easily understood. The world that she created is similar to Norse Mythology; Hans Christian Andersen’s known fairy tale “The Snow Queen”, its movie adaptation by Disney, “Snow and Rose” by Emily Winfield Martin which is a book inspired by the classic little-known fairy tale “Snow White and Rose Red”; “Tabaluga” the animated series and “Barbie and the Magic of Pegasus”. We will travel along with the main characters through the Island of Nordovia where we will meet different characters, animals and even come across dangers. Nordovia is similar to Norway, Canada, Alaska, Iceland and also the enchanting realms from the winter stories, while the Everchanging Lights remind us of the beautiful aurora borealis.
Each of us resembles one or each of the triplets: Magda – the voice of reason, balance and intelligence, her chestnut hair shows us that she is often with her feet planted firmly on the ground, mature and sophisticated, Ida – the shy artist, her blond hair reminds us of angels and “Sleeping Beauty” and Hanna – the brave rebellious adventurer, her red hair is a clue about her character: full of energy, bold and stubborn. Ida doesn’t like her sisters’ competitive spirit.
Two of the most important themes discussed in the novel are patience and courage. The three sisters continue their mission to search for the three orbs containing the Everchanging Lights, find their missing parents and save the kingdom from the Shadow Witch. In this book, the girls have to journey into the Rainbow Pools to find the frozen rainbow. The three sisters’ magic is growing stronger, so as their enemy’s powers that seems to be one step ahead of them this time. Will they manage to get to the third enchanted orb first?
There are a few things with symbolic meanings like the rainbow – hope, new beginnings, change, ascension, encouragement, enlightenment; the geyser – pent-up feelings that are waiting to come to the surface; the raven – ancient wisdom, intelligence, transformation, adaptability, bad luck sometimes, divine messenger, prophecy; the white rabbit – good luck, purity, innocence, impending opportunity etc. The ravens attacking the girls foretell the final confrontation between them and their aunt in the next and last adventure.
Friendship, family, daring to take risks, responsibility, cleverness, perseverance, forgiveness, reconciliation, teamwork, hope are some of the lessons the readers will learn throughout the plot and they will find magic in every page they read.
Together with J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, J. K. Rowling, K. M. Jenkins, Richard H. Stephens, Allison D. Reid, Sophie Audouin-Mamikonian, Moony Witcher, Matteo Astone, Elena Kedros, Alisha Klapheke, Emily Martha Sorensen, Paula Harrison, Georgia Lohan, Laura S. Gotz, Sînziana Popescu, Miruna Ursache and many others, Astrid Foss revolutionizes children’s literature through the world that she created.
I recommend this book to readers of all ages.

Firstly, gorgeous black and white drawings.
Secondly, a great story for little ones, but no less interesting for a teenager.
Thirdly, thats so easy to read.
And what ive got? 5 out of 5 stars.
That was an wonderful experience. I love and absolutely love this series of books. Ive already read 3 of 4 books. So, I can already imagine how much I will miss those sisters and few hours of reading these books.

But Illustrations hold a special place in my heart(btw, i think... No, Im sure that in this part of the series there is more pictures than were drew in 1 or 2 books). Thats so beautiful and cute and sometimes i just stare at them and enjoying. As an artist i feel how this inspires me. What about the story... these sister girls went through so many amazing dangerous adventures to save Nordia (their Kingdom that named so), and most importantly, their parents that I am just speechless. Their aunt came up with something to make sure that her nieces didn't stop her from capturing the last magic sphere and capturing Nordia and what siblings going to do to take the last sphere first? Or the witch will take it faster? I can just highly recommend it for kids or to read it for kids before the bed time.

Enjoy reading! whatever it is)

Read aloud with my 5 year old! She picked this book up at the library and insisted on it. After a quick google search to make sure there was nothing nefarious, we brought it home. More than half the books she chooses end up getting ignored and returned, but to my surprise, this book was PERFECT for her.

Lots of great vocabulary words that pushed her comfort zone, while the story was benign and full of magical sisters who work together to free their parents and save their town. We will definitely be getting the next one!

Is this the best book in the world? No. But does it fit the bill for a strong reader with a sweet tender heart? Yes!

In this book Hannah, Magda and Ida must once again find another orb to set about saving their mother from their evil aunt.

As the girls slope off from their governess while out shopping, they make it to find the purple orb however their aunt has other ideas and things soon go awry...

This series is a great one to show the joys of family, friendship and sisterhood too and that working together you can achieve your goals. I enjoyed this book and if you too enjoy magical and adventure books you should definitely check this series out!
