What I know of Harry Potter, I have learned through memes. Would you believe I actually learned something from the Internet? Indeed I have been living under a rock. I have not read any of the books. As for the films, I have only a vague recollection from watching the first in the series on a long-haul flight between London and Johannesburg. There was complimentary wine involved, so the memories are imperfect to say the least. So imagine my surprise when Exploring Diagon Alley arrived in my muggle inbox. Was this my ticket to finally board the Hogwarts Express?

Jody Revenson and Studio Muti invite the reader on a guided tour of (what I understand to be) one of the major hubs in the world of Potter. Diagon Alley. This very English walkway is a veritable mall for all things magical.

Whereas Potter fans may give a casual nod at the familiar places and their knowledge of Ollivanders, Quality Quidditch Supplies and Knockturn Alley (amongst others) are sharpened, I found it fascinating to explore the world Rowling had cooked up for the first time. Diagon Alley packs more depth than I expected. This book is a testament to the creative energy that lives in this world and the passion that went into creating the film adaptations.

This colourful guide strikes a good balance between in-universe lore and behind-the-scenes. It provides a fascinating look at how the team went about creating the films. It enhances the magic, rather than breaking it apart. Whimsical illustrations and diagrams combine with stills from the movie. Bite-sized bits of trivia and “did-you-knows” keep the reader entertained. Like the overstuffed shelves in Flourish and Blotts, this work deserves to be picked apart - explored rather than absorbed in one sitting.

That Exploring Diagon Alley - An Illustrated Guide entertained and enlightened a muggle like me is testament to a well thought-out and informative piece of Potter literature. Recommended.

beautiful illustrations with a few fun fold out pages. there are movie facts interspersed with breakdowns of scenes. sometimes it felt like more scene recap than facts could be found for some of the locations, especially towards the end of the book. fun for any potter fan to read through. my favorite part was learning that the cat and rat who played crookshanks and scabbers were good friends!

Wow! This is an explorative look at Diagon Alley, it's shops, and little tidbits throughout of your favorite moments and spells from the world of Harry Potter! TONS of pictures, so many little candid pics, too, that there is lot's to look at!

This would be fun for middle school age children and collectors. It's more of a look-book than a reading book.

It was fun reading about the different props and how them made different items around Diagon Alley.

Loved the book a lot, so many small things they bring up that you don’t notice in the films or if you do it’s just a fun read!

A detailed exploration of Diagon Alley, including Gringotts, Knockturn Alley and the Ministry of Magic, as portrayed in the Harry Potter films. The book also includes comparisons to the locations from the film and the movies, for example shops in the books that don't have names, the Rowling named for the film.

We begin with an aerial map of Diagon Alley, then we enter the Leaky Cauldron and venture out back to being our explorations of, arguably, the coolest shopping district ever created. Some of the shops discussed are Flourish and Blotts, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, the stores that sell creatures, shops packed with sweets and ice cream and Apothecaries. In Knockturn Alley Borgin and Burkes is prominent. Production details, as well as what the store stocks and how it functions are discussed. We learn how all the magical effect we see in the movies are created. Especially with regards to the Weasley brother’s shop, this was really interesting. All the detail, and work and time that went into creating these sets was extraordinary.

The illustrations were a mixture of not only drawn, brightly colored buildings, items and people, but also photos from the film. It was an interesting mix, and a unique way to compile illustrations. If you love Harry Potter, you should check this book out!
