This volume feels very much like a transition book, the new villains and the new threat from the Kingdom of Shade is interesting though, I'll stay tune, although I'm entirely, absolutely not thrilled by the cliché that .

Asta and Yuno grew up together, abandoned at the same church. They both determined to become Magic Knights... Yuno's abilities soon grew to genius levels of power and control while Asta didn't show even a spark of magic and made up for it by training hard physically. It became apparent to both when they received their grimores, Yuno a coveted 4-leaf clover and Asta an unheard of black 5-leaf clover, that they were each other's biggest competition when it came to achieving their goals of becoming the next sorcerer emperor.

So we jump right into a time jump as our team of Magic Knights from the Clover kingdom train to go up against some insane guys from the Spade kingdom. We get some great advancements this volume. I wasn’t too surprised about Yuno he’s always had that vibe but it means certain implications about his contest with Asta. I loved, loved, loved the spreads of him getting madder and madder, wow! A crazy way to jump into this but bold, and the Spades are some bold villains.

The moving fortress was a little anti-climatic as the idea was stellar but I could have used a bit more to taking care of it. I am totally all for a Yami battle though! That’s sure to come next. I didn’t mind some of the highlight being on others that Asta this time, but when he was on screen give him really strong story.

I can’t wait for the next volume of this stellar series!

A GREAT battle. The time skip really leveled up the characters so much in a short time and Yuno is the star of this arc so far and I love that he’s getting more focus.

Okay so the last chapter of volume 23 announced a timeskip and in that same chapter immediately jumped six months ahead. I know shonen timeskips are a necessity but six months isn't a lot, and we're told characters changed and got stronger but it doesn't make a lot of sense. We have "magic stages" and "arcane stage" and even PERCENTAGES of power now, but we don't know the difference between them. They're arbitrary numbers, and saying someone went from stage two to stage one or stage one to stage zero makes no real sense to me. Because, and I must stress this, power levels suck.

Oh and we get fanservice bath chapters with the ladies standing around naked groping each other. And I once complimented Black Clover for having their food-loving character trope, Charmy, not actually be fat, except whoops time skip happened now she's really fat and all the jokes are at her expense for being so fat and undesirable.

Oh and we get some deaths but are the deaths even named characters?

Oh and remember how Black Clover originally had this through line about how even peasants, like Asta and Yuno, can use magic and the nobility are wrong to treat them like worthless people? Well way to go Black Clover, way to stick to your guns.

Okay, this series is so weird with it's pacing. The last arc took FOREVER to finish because we had to go through every character's battle in a war so we could reaffirm our appreciation for them and see them grow. Now we're finally going abroad to see one of the other three kingdoms and we're met with a six month time skip, during which all our characters have a training montage. We just got to the Heart Kingdom, elaborate a little more beyond "country of natural magic users ruled by Amy Farrah Fowler".

Additionally, we find out a bombshell secret about one of the main characters (my earlier sarcastic guess was wrong, but I knew he'd have some kind of super secret) which escalates as the Spade Kingdom attacks the Clover Kingdom.

I'm in a weird spot with this series because it's interesting and fun and totally scratches my shonen itch, but it's agonizingly predictable with awful pacing. But I'm already 24 volumes in, so I'm invested.

To say that shit just got real would be an understatement. The Spade Kingdom has already shown what a threat it is, and I worry for my babies who will inevitably have to fight them. The thing that makes me happiest, though, is that while Zenon, Vanica, and Dante are not the most original/ interesting villains, they are LEAGUES better than the elves or Eye of the Midnight Sun were. Even better, I'm actually curious to learn more about them and their motivations. So, yay! Good villains, at last!

The revelation regarding Yuno wasn't necessarily surprising, but I didn't think it was wasted, shoehorned in, or out of place. It certainly explains why he's been at royal-level when it comes to magic and why he was abandoned. Now we just need Asta's full backstory and my life will be complete! But going back to Yuno, I love how even when he learns about his past, he rejects it and doesn't get a swelled head. I love Yuno as a character because he goes against so many tired cliches for his character type and instead is just a good, kind person.

I'm really, REALLY curious to see where things will go and am so pumped for this arc! I hope it maintains this level of quality from start to finish!

This new arc actually seems like it’s gonna be really cool, I like how much more expansive it is.
Asta can skateboard with his sword now, and Yuno has to match him, so naturally we find out that he’s the heir to an entire kingdom.
I like that it seems to be getting darker to work with the vibe of the Spade kingdom, but tbh I was disappointed when half of the Golden Deer members that we thought died were revived. Literally only the characters we don’t care about got killed. I like Klaus, but it would’ve been exciting for him to die, then the loss would feel more immediately real.

Unfortunately, this volume wasn't great. It was too fast, things were bad explained and I couldn't see the characters' power evolution. Hope that in the next ones gets better.

Tabata doesn't play any games when it involves starting a whole new arc/saga. I really enjoyed the pacing in this volume. I can say it's somewhat pretty fast, but at the same, I love how once again this is how he's starting this new Saga out where he's giving us an update as to what our favorite characters have been up to, giving us a chance to catch up and see how they've grown, but immediately let us know there are going to be some serious consequences and challenges still on the horizon for our main characters.

I have to say these new villains look great. There's so much I want to know about them. Our main heroes also look amazing and look as if they've really grown up in the 6-months they've been away while training.
I was literally holding my breath when The Golden Dawn base was attacked wondering who made it out of there and sad for those that didn't. However, despite what some have said, Tabata does instill actual consequences for characters because not everyone made it out thus putting the Clover Kingdom at a serious disadvantage in any future battle as their most elite squad just got seriously reduced in its number of squad members and power.
I can already tell this Saga is going to possibly be even better than the Elf Saga. Great volume and I can't wait for the next one.

In this new arc, we learn more about the mysterious Heart Kingdom and its powerful queen. I am actually quite surprised that the anime also started this arc and is very close to the manga. This new arc looks very interesting mainly because it deals with the demons. We know from the very beginning that Asta's grimoire contains a demon but we don't really know anything about it.

The characters actually faced a demon before and beat it but now the threat is much bigger than it. I was actually quite interested in these last chapters and also curious to see what happens next.

Ooh the battle lines have been drawn and we pretty much know what’s gonna happen in the next volume. This volume had a lot going on for Yuno. We find out he’s a lost Prince, which wasn’t surprising to be honest but still, it’s nice. And we get to really see the Dark Triad for the first time. I did like seeing Zenon show Yuno the difference in their power because it makes it very clear what this arc is going to be about. Especially because they’ve already established that only the strongest have a chance at fighting, it going to be a complete loud, bang bang, big flashy powers going at each other-fest. The battle with the elves had way more build up and even though they jumped 6 months, which was probably all training, it seems like we haven’t seen the steps the Spade Kingdom is taking in their plan in the way we saw it with the Elves. I did like this volume and it made me like Yuno more.

As everyone compares this story with Naruto, it’s fair to say Yuno is the Sasuke except their relationship is healthier and more brotherly. I just always found Yuno quite bland and I think he was meant to be bland. He was the powerful, haughty, attractive one and Asta got all the personality. But he kind of grew on me as we see him struggle a little a feel emotion for his comrades. But in true Yuno fashion, he didn’t really have a reaction to the revelation of his family heritage. I suspect because Asta is the main character and must surely become the Wizard King that Y7no is going to become King of the Spade Kingdom because it will be an equal position despite losing in his shared goal with Asta. On Asta, his muscles look even more ridiculous and why are all the Black Bulls wearing their capes opened? Are they copying Astas style because he can’t seem to close his over his weird muscles.

Zenon’s power, although completely different make up, were a pretty good rival to William. The tree vs the bone tree basically. Visually it looked quite cool. Zenon it appears is the Zogratis sibling without humour. I wonder how Yami and the Princess(Queen) will fair? Also, while Dante is there, can he kill the King? This man is so useless and I hate him for his delusional existence and we need a new King to cause drama. Perhaps Damnatio is the heir? Or get rid of them please because you don’t need two Kings and the Wizard one is the only useful one.

I should have known things were going to change drastically with the words "Six months later". Six months of hard training has happened for the Magic Knights of the Clover Kingdom, especially our squad (Asta, Noelle, Finral, Mimosa, Leo, and Luck) working directly with the Heart Kingdom's Spirit Guardians. Even Lolopechka seems to be more in charge of herself (though that's probably with Undine's help).
The Spade Kingdom has started to invade and our heroes are sent to stop the advance. Taking down minions is fine, but they are ruled by the Dark Triad: Zenon, Dante, and Vanica (who is the one possessed by Megicula!) Zenon and his minions (including stone mage Gaderois) directly invade the base of the Golden Dawn, killing half the members. Even Yuno, who has also grown by leaps and bounds, is unable to stop Zenon.
A few final things to round up: 1) A servant of the Royal Family of the Spade Kingdom shows up in Hage Village and informs us and him that Yuno (who had been brought to the village as a baby) is a member of the Grinberryall Royal Family and is a Prince of the Spade Kingdom! 2) Charmy is addicted to the food of the Heart Kingdom and has to be stopped periodically or she'd consume it all. 3) For the next Volume, Vanica is about to invade the palace where Loropechka is, and Dante is searching for Yami to fight.

Good start to a new arc! Loving this manga!
Strong recommend!

Top tier volume, not going to lie.
Asta is now super jacked, heck yeah, and the Black Bulls and their allies are stronger than ever.
On the other hand, Yuno is at his lowest point. Up until now, Yuno has kind of been one dimensional, being portrayed only as a plot device to help Asta power up. However, in this volume we explore his past, revealing him to be a prince of the Spade Kingdom, aka our villains. When the Golden Dawn get attacked by the Spade Kingdom and their devil, we see Yuno fight for everything he cares about and everything he has built- power, relationships, etc. However, this is the first time we see Yuno completely out powered and the first time in the series where we see him lose. The rage and sadness he feels in that final chapter is probably the reason I’m rooting for him as hard as I am now.
And when the Spade guys said they were after the Arcane Level, I swear I thought they were after Asta, definitely not Yami. If they hurt the drunk and depressed father figure of the group, hands will be thrown. Excited to see how Yami handles them, considering William aka the Captain of the Strongest Squad being taken out by a guy with him hands in his pockets (the disrespect is unreal).

This volume was fantastic! Who needs a slow start after a timeskip? Black Clover clearly does not, because so much happened in this volume. Asta is more buff then before, can fly on his sword, and mops the floor with bad guys. Yuno is vice-captain of the Golden Dawn, and a prince. And the Spade Kingdom is already making a move on the Heart and Clover Kingdoms. While we do not know why yet, they appear to be after mages who are at an 'arcane' level, which seem to be the most powerful members of the Clover Kingdom. Also, there is not one, but three, bad guys possessed by devils, which is a lot, and they are nothing to mess with. One, and two of his followers, literally killed half of the Golden Dawn by the end of this volume, and captured their captain, so shit it getting real. I can't wait to see what happens next in the upcoming volume!

Vol. 24 follows a time skip during which Asta and his comrades trained in the Heart Kingdom. My only disappointment was that i wanted to see them train and grow. Maybe, we'll see some flashbacks of their training every now and then. Anyhow, the squad members returned anew with their newfound strengths. It also has new villains and shocking reveals. The first few chapters of this volume are just panel after panel of action. This manga properly showcases the improvements and progress they've all attained in just six months. Asta's progress was the most shocking and he's controlling his power way better now.

After six months of training, Asta and the Black Bulls face off against the Spade Kingdom as they invade the Heart Kingdom. But the Spade Kingdom's Dark Triad are powered by Devil magic, and even a revelation about Yuno's past might not be enough to hold them back.

It's hard not to draw parallels with the Naruto time-jump (although that was longer), since we get to see how strong everyone's gotten over the period, but their designs mostly stay the same. It's nice to see that Asta's resolve is as strong as ever (and his new mode of transportation is radical) - not entirely sure what the Yuno reveal is heading towards just yet though.

4/5
