Bethany Hamilton has been a faith role model of mine ever since I read Soul Surfer years ago, and I’ve read this devotional tons of times so it was nice to revisit and enjoy her spiritual wisdom and insights again.

I will say some of the situations she mentions don’t apply to me as an adult anymore (this is written for teens), but several things did make me think or helped me on the particular day I read them.

Still a good devotional even if you’re not a teen anymore.

This book is very good. There are just a few things I disagree like not getting baptized and that is about it. This book is really inspiring to live life to the fullest while serving God.

Her and her best friend Alana are amazing surfers and spend most of their time in the water then on land, they live in Hawaii. One day, Bethany gets attacked by a shark and her life changes forever. Shes getting way too much attention from people and now surfing becomes a challenge. Bethany lost an arm. She loves surfing and it means everything to Bethany, she fears not being able to surf, but she continues being an amazing competitive surfer.
This is an amazing inspiring book and I recommend it to anyone. It is also an easy, fast read.

Bethany Hamilton reflects on her experiences and shares messages and verses from The Bible. Topics include friendship, relationships, peer pressure, goals, and prayer. There are sections of prayer and then questions to make the reader reflect up on and write answers to in their devotion.

Everyone reads books and watches movies about incredible people and their amazing life stories, but none of them are like Bethany Hamiltons. The book "Soul Surfer Devotions" is one of the most incredible stories I have ever read. This book is for sure must read, once you start reading you won't want to stop.
Bethany Hamilton was a 13 year old girl when she survived her shark attack. Bethany started her surfing career when she was 8 years old in her home of Kauai she was the champion. She couldn't be stopped, surfing in the day surfing in the night it was in her blood. One day Bethany and her best friend Alana, along with Alana’s dad Holt, and brother Byron went surfing along the coast of Tunnels Beach. After riding waves the group had decided to float on their boards for awhile, that's when it happened. Bethany says she didn't see the tiger shark until it was attached to her arm. The friends got her back to shore while she was bleeding out. They used a anklecord and surf shirt to make a temporary bandage for the wound. The group had decided to start driving towards the hospital and meet the ambulance half way. They rushed her into the medical center with 60% of her blood gone. Bethany was immediately taken into surgery to get stitched up and regain some blood. Once bethany woke up she couldn't believe that it was a reality. Her arm was gone.
The surfer was to quick to decide her future and say that she was done surfing. It only took 26 days for her to get back into the water and riding waves. Bethany was taking it slow but with the help of her family and close friends she was able to do it. A small majority of people can survive a shark attack and Bethany was lucky to be apart of that majority. Now Bethany Hamilton has written this book “Soul Surfer Devotions” had a movie created called “Soul Surfer” and has an up and coming documentary called “Unstoppable”. Inspiring young people everywhere that anything is possible as long as you put your mind to it, even if there are lots of challenges along the way.

I read the book Soul Surfer by Bethany Hamilton, it is a very inspirational autobiography. The story is one of a young surfer who is a very accomplished for her age, she has a near death experience when a shark bites her arm off. It is very tragic event and one that most people would let ruin their life, this story is about how she proves you can persevere through the rough times and the seemingly unclimbable mountain she was put in front of.

She knew the odds were against her ever getting on a surf board and competing ever again. She did not let the odds stop her though, she was going to relearn how to surf and prove people wrong. I believe her purpose in writing this book is to show everyone out there that if you want something bad enough do not let people tell you that you cant succeed. Life is full of people who will want to tell you that you can't do something and she wanted to show everyone that that isn't true.

The theme of this book is that anything is possible. Bethany went through a major hardship, I personally don't think I could see such a positive side in losing an arm and be able to inspire everyone who I meet. Bethany is truly an inspiration to be able to work against all odds and still be able to do what she loves. She proves that anything is possible by telling her amazing story.

Personally I would not change anything about this book because it is her story, she lived it and deserves to be able to tell it as she pleases. It is a narrative that tells her story in chronological order. I liked the book because I feel like a connected with the author and could really relate to her hardship and it was easy to root for her in her journey to regain her surfing career.

All in all, Bethany Hamilton is a role model to all people, she is a great example of how hard work pays off. She shows how anything can happen and even when it seems as if your back is against the ropes you can still come out on top. I do not think this book is written to reward her for her hard work but in order to prove to all kids with a dream that you can do anything that you want with your life and not to let doubters get in your way.

The book I read for the second quarter was “Soul Surfer” by Bethany Hamilton. The whole book was based around the story of her not letting her injury get in the way of her dreams. It tells the story of her attack and her battle to get back on her feet to live out her dream. “Soul Surfer” is a true story about family, perseverance, and fighting to get back on the board.

The story starts off with Bethany talking about her experience during the shark attack and how it immediately affected her. She goes on to tell how difficult it was to do everyday activities and to just simply keep up with life. Though it was hard to get back into the loop, Bethany admitted that she would do anything to try and keep her passion for surfing alive. Once things got a little easier and she was learning to cope with her injury, she decided to share her story with the world. After everyone had heard her story she talks about how her attack affected not only her, but also so many other people. She tells of the many times her shark attack has allowed her to be able to speak to others about not only hardships but bring Christ into their lives. “Life is a lot like surfing… When you get caught in the impact zone, you’ve got to just get back up. Because you never know what may be over the next wave.” (Hamilton 107)

I would definitely recommend this book to anyone, it teaches everyone about faith and learning to never give up. The book “Soul Surfer” not only inspires you but makes you want to work even harder at whatever your passionate about. Overall I would give this book a five out of five stars.

This summer I read Soul Surfer by, Bethany Hamilton. This takes place in Kauai, Hawaii and it is about a teenager who was born to surf and surfing is her life. In 2003 Bethany Hamilton and her friends decided to go late night surfing on Halloween. Unfortunatley a horrific life threating situation occured when a tiger shark bit off Bethany Hamilton's arm while she was lying down on her board. Luckily she was with multiple friends that were able to get her to shore both quickly and safely. After they got to the shore her good friend Byron called the police and they got her to the hospital.

Bethany was safe and now only has one arm. Bethany couragousley got back in the water and started surfing once again. This book taught me multiple things, this book taught me to allways follow your passions and dreams no matter what obsticles come in the way. This book also taught me never to give up and also to be bold and couragous. I really enjoyed reading this book because of all of the useful life lessons that it hadto offer. I would reccomend this book to someone who likes surfing or autobiographys.

Bethany Hamilton speaks from her experiences and observations of the world, of people she admires, and encourages others to reflect in spots to journal. Each devotion is a page long and reflections on God's message as well as how it relates to our lives. This book would be great for teens but it was a bit to young for me. But it would still be helpful for those starting to read devotions because they are short and clear.

This book was interesting. Yet, it was kinda boring in some parts. It mostly dragged on about the shark attack. I wanted to hear more about herself and what her interests are. It was all basically about the shark attack. It was really depressing.
I just kinda expected more than what I got...
But, it talked about her childhood and family and stuff like that occasionally and that was great! I just wanted to hear more.
Good book, overall though. :)

This book was not what I expected. I thought that I would get to hear the story about a pro surfer who lost her arm in a shark attack. This book told us how god is always on out side and how he is always here for us.

I did not enjoy this book as much as I thought would. I did like how the author made interesting points though.

I would recommend this book to people who are religious and christian.

Devotions for the Soul Surfer was such an inspiring story. It's so amazing how Bethany Hamilton took an obstacle in her life and embraced it and got through it. When you think about things in that perspective it only makes you stronger.
