Will we have our own love song, or will this just be another broken-hearted ballad?
Chance
When I read the roommate wanted ad, I thought my sister was encouraging me to live with an insane person. Turns out, he isn’t insane, just sexy and one-hundred percent my type. Living with him will be the ultimate test of my self-control. When the combination of our love of music and my overwhelming need to take care of him meets jealousy, sparks fly. His heart may be damaged, but nothing is beyond repair.
Tyler
A sunny personality and punny t-shirts are nothing more than a shield protecting my heart, damaged by those who were meant to love me most. Risking the tattered shreds on my new—straight—roommate is the last thing I should do. Developing a friendship is one thing, falling in love is another. When it turns out my roommate is not as straight as I once thought, I have to decide if this is one playlist I should listen to.
The B-Side is Book 1 in the Perspective series. A dual POV, low-angst, roommates-to-lovers, MM Romance novel. Featuring punny t-shirts for every occasion, killer playlists, meddling family and friends, and a happily-ever-after. Although this book may be read as a standalone, the series is best enjoyed in order.
Bree Harmony, or B. Harmony is an MM romance author with a penchant for writing about men finding love, hard rock, and a little bit of headbanging. Pretty obvious with the last name Harmony, right?
With survival instincts fueled by iced coffee and far too many swear words to rival any sailor, B. Harmony delivers equal amounts of heart and heat, because life is all about balance, right?
I have been following this book since it’s literal creation. Just a few short lines introduced me to Tyler & Chance and I was both hooked and demanding more. Chance’s confined heart(aside from his family), his turmoil in being who he really was, his absolutely adorable relationship with his nephews kept me spellbound. Tyler’s graphic tee choices, his unwillingness to ruin a good friendship, & all of his King Tyler ways stole my whole heart. Between the two of them, as well as the side characters, I’m in for the long haul. I’m predicting great things to come from this author. Just you wait and see.
Just not feeling the writing. Also I lost a lot of interest after Chance, who’s only known Tyler a week, got jealous over him talking to another guy and left the bar in a huff and then ignored Tyler the next day. Just felt way too immature for my tastes.
This was just the cutest and sweetest read. I adored this book. Tyler is out and proud and just a happy go lucky guy. What you do not see from the outside is how much depth his character actually has. He did not have the happy family who were accepting, but he did have a wonderful aunt who was everything he could have hoped for. She left him a big house that he feels lonely in, so he is on the search for a roommate. Enter Chance who is needing to find a place pronto! Chance's overbearing sister find him Tyler's add, and it is the perfect match for them both. Chance is bisexual and has an immediate reaction to Tyler. They become fast friends and the best roommates. Eventually it turns to more and then to love. The epilogue was wonderful, and so glad we go that. I absolutely adore this couple, and I want more from them. They are just great. I have already read the rest of the series to date, and you get more of them in the next book as well as the Christmas special! This is definitely a fell good comfort read with little angst and the best supporting cast. Cannot wait to read more from this author.
I love me some uncomplicated love stories. This one had a solid build-up, focused on their interactions, no fights, no break-up, not too much drama, there is strong attraction and sexual tension, fun, and a blooming love getting stronger and stronger.
Chance is already head deep with his feelings for Tyler. Chance is honest, kind with no second agenda. You get what you see. and he’s all Tyler sees and wants.
Tyler's new roommate is the most lovable guy, he’s convinced he’s straight. Little does he know. The attraction between both men is so strong, but a bit difficult because they don’t want to lose their friendship and living circumstances. Tyler is stunned when Chance tells him he’s bi. When both give in to their mutual feelings it's only getting sexier and sweeter. Lovely additions are Chance’s family and Tyler and Chance's mutual love for music.
A lovely adorable, honest love story. It’s wonderfully written, it has lovable warm-hearted characters. Overall a very enjoyable story!
The B-Side is Indie author B. Harmony’s debut novel and what a way to make an entrance in the contemporary romance world.
If you are a fan of MM, roommates or friends to lovers reads, then this is the book for you. Personally I love reading MM romances and am on the fence about friends to lovers but this book made me change my tune!
Tyler is a punny t-shirt wearing, ray of sunshine, on the outside. On the inside, he is beautifully broken. Emotionally and psychologically abandoned by his religious parents when he came out in his teens, he sought solace and refuge with his aunt Dee. For the first time in his life he knew love and acceptance, until she died. Alone, rambling in a big house, he looks for a roommate.
Chance loves music. You could say he’s addicted to it. He’s handsome and oh so sexy and he’s devoted to his sister and two nephews. Chance is a middle school math teacher and likes to keep things organized. He is also very much aware of his sexual preferences and accepts that he is bisexual. He’s had girlfriends in the past and is open to a relationship with another man.
As roommates, Tyler and Chance are perfect together. They share lots of the same interests and hobbies and they are compatible even in their differences. As men, both Tyler and Chance are extremely attracted to each other, but hesitant to push the boundaries. Tyler because he doesn’t realize that Chance is bi and Chance because he doesn’t think dating/sleepIng with his landlord is a good idea. But the heart wants what the heart wants and when push comes to shove, they simply cannot resist the connection between them. Watching Tyler and a Chance overcome the obstacles standing in their way and fall slowly, sexily in love - makes this book a definite must read for all contemporary romance readers.
TBR The B-Side and watch two imperfect people find their much deserved and perfect, happily ever after.
The B-side is my introduction to B. Harmony. This book is a gay romance novel about two men who end up roommates after a quirky Craigslist ad brings them together.
The novel begins with Chance finding out that his landlords want him to move out because they've found someone who will pay more rent. He's just come out as bisexual and his sister finds a cute and quirky ad for a roommate! The fellow who ran the ad is gay and sounds great and Chance's sister thinks that it will be a great way for him to get acquainted with the LGBTQIA community.
Tyler wrote his funny ad in a weak moment. He's tired of having roommates that don't work out... his most recent was a guy he got along with great until the guy discovered that Tyler was gay and went on a homophobic tirade. How he missed that Tyler was gay is anyone's guess as nearly every t-shirt he owns has a gay saying on it.
When Tyler and Chance meet... they both realize they are definitely each others' type. The thing is, Tyler doesn't know that Chance is gay and Chance doesn't think that they should get involved if they are roommates. There's nothing particularly original about this concept, but this is an entertaining version of the trope.
Tyler is a lovely character. I particularly enjoyed how he was unapologetically himself. The t-shirts that he wore were as varied and amusing as his reactions to having Chance in his life. It was fun reading along with him as he got to know Chance and began to come out from behind the protections he had built up throughout his life.
You'll get your HFN in this one, so don't worry about that. If you're a fan of the genre and this trope, in particular, I'm sure you'll enjoy this book!
This book had me at graphic tees! Nothing cracks me up more than witty graphic t-shirts. The characters also had internal drama that added to the complexity of the story. Tyler is an external bundle of joy but deep down he has abandonment issues and still hasn't come to terms with the death of his beloved Aunt. Chance has had to deal with tragic loss in his past and has also decided that he is ready to explore his bisexual status. The sexual tension between these two is fantastic. As Chance and Tyler go from strangers to roommates and beyond, they find that the best part of each other isn't necessarily what everyone else sees.
This book has all the feels! I read an ARC of this book and I don't regret it at all. I think this is a debut too. Oh my gosh this book was good. Any book that can make me laugh and cry and then laugh again is one to reread in my opinion. Chance is looking for a place to rent. He is bi but has never explored that part of his identity before. The ad he answers for a roommate belongs to a VERY loud and proud man who makes no secret of his gay status. I loved the music references running through this book and it was very much representative of the characters themselves. They have so much depth. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to other books by this author.
The B Side is an amazing story! The character building was perfect. Both Tyler & Chance felt like real people with depth, fears, wants & love to give. Their roommates to friends to lovers story had me so happy.
The characters really fit the slow burn and low angst of this story. Even the side characters were perfect. The story building, plot points & foreshadowing were all done exceptionally as well.
This is a sweet story with the best HEA for the characters. I am really looking forward to reading B Harmony’s next book.
I was given a free copy of this book to leave an honest review. Everything I said is 100% my opinion.
This is a dual-narrated story, so we get insight into both Tyler’s and Chance’s thoughts and motivations. I generally like these stories, especially when the biggest obstacle to connection is a person’s fears of rejection. In this case, however, the repetition of scenes and experiences slowed the pace for me. It’s always nice to get internal insights, but I wanted to stay with the plot, not rewind. Beyond that, the characters are fun and engaging. Their mutual love of music is a good jumping off point for building a friendship, and it serves as a counterpoint as they build a relationship, too. Their discomfort over shielding their attractions is pleasantly awkward to experience as a reader.
This is a bit of a slow burn, but once these guys decide to light the match, their love story ignites like a brush fire. Their chemistry is intense, and Chance’s determination to care for Tyler is endearing.
I received an arc for an honest review. • So I was finally able to sit and read The B Side by B. Harmony and I do not regret it. TBS is Harmony’s debut and she did fabulous. The world building is smooth and detailed to perfection. The character building was epic. I felt like I knew Chance. I don’t want o give anything away but Chance is new to the community and he wants to explore what he desires whereas Tyler is a long time resident, so to speak. (When you read it you’ll understand) The way these two guys grow in their friendship and exploration is phenomenal. I don’t have any critics for a single moment in this book. I wasn’t bored at any moment, I didn’t zone out, and I wasn’t easily distracted. These are all things I fight while reading most books. I’m so happy @bharmonyauthor has decided to write and I can tell that she will be an author to look out for. I’m so happy for you babe! Thank you for letting me have the chance to get to know your boys!
Getting kinda tired of trauma being used in lieu of angst. But otherwise, The B-Side is a sugary sweet roommates-to-lovers story full of communication.
Nudne, przewidywalne, banalne, zawierające pseudofilozoficzne przemyślenia i schematyczne sceny seksu. Nudne dialogi, nudne postaci, do tego sporo męczących scen z dziećmi (nawet nie własnymi bohaterów). Zmarnowany czas. Gwiazdka za ładną okładkę.
The B-Side was a nice story, adorable room-mates to lover. This story has a lot of potential to be a great read. But I'm not too keen of too much telling writing style. That ended with me skimming some parts of this book that I don't think necessary. I got bored easily reading this kind of writing. But overall, the story itself has potential, especially when it come to the little boys who called Tyler, "King Tyler". I wanted to like this one more, but I can only gave it three stars. I like it, but not really enjoying this.
I was given a copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads.
This is a sweet roommates to lovers romance. The sexual tension between Chance and Tyler is so good it’s almost unbearable and both men are fabulous.
Both Chance and Tyler are almost too good to be true. As a dedicated teacher and devoted uncle, Chance is toothache inducingly sweet. Tyler is larger than life and full of defiant attitude but he’s also slightly reclusive and much more vulnerable than he first appears. The two men are both a little guarded when they meet but they compliment each other perfectly.
My one gripe with this story is the central miscommunication between Tyler and Chance. It doesn’t make a whole lot of sense but it does work to stretch out the sexual tension in the book. I was glad for some actual drama in the last third of the book because the miscommunication wasn’t quite plausible enough to hold the whole novel together. I also think that without the drama in the last third of the book, this story had the potential to be far too cute. The drama at the end adds some realism to balance out the sweet and fluffy start.
I really enjoyed the supporting characters in this story. Chance’s sister and her family are wonderful and I loved Tyler’s best friend. I also loved the music that connects the two men. Tyler’s t-shirts add humour and the friendship that builds between Chance and Tyler is lovely.
oh man I love Tyler and Chance. Chance is a middle school math teacher who is a hottie figuring out his bi identity. He unexpectedly needs to find a place to stay. And his adorable sister sends an app to Tyler who needs a roommate. Tyler is a fun charismatic guy who hides a lot of pain and heartache. When that door opens these two are both secretly smitten! It is so cute watching them figure out things out and battle their attraction. Tyler I’m with you a guy in glasses and sweatpants is too much I can’t take it!! There are so many sweet tender moments between these guys who have developed such a great friendship. But when I was reading this I thought ohhhhhh nooooooo this is going to good! Too good what is going to happen! Oh myyyyyy gahhhhhh I wasn’t prepared! All Tyler’s past hurts come rushing in while we fight for this new love’s survival. You will be cheering for them through the whole book to get the HEA and I cried again at the epilogue because they got everything they wanted ❤️❤️ Also from my momma nurse heart—I loved that we had conversations about condoms and prep, which I haven’t seen and I love it. Can’t wait for that bear Damon’s story!
Chance has his sister Ella and her adorable sons, Hudson & Mason as their parents died. Tyler came out to his parents as a teenager unfortunately they refused to speak to him, a year later his Aunt Dee rescued him and he has a best friend in Del.
Slow burn romance, but you don’t notice as the pages flow, well developed characters, so much happening and misconceptions, if only Chance and Tyler talked, then finally an explosive come together. I loved Chance and Tyler, during the storyline you find out why it’s called The B-Side, all I’ll say is WOW so beautiful and what an ending.
I voluntarily reviewed an arc of this book for my honest opinions of which I’m under no obligation to do so. I absolutely recommend this book.
I enjoyed reading “The B-Side” and getting to know Chance and Tyler. They were adorable together and I loved Tyler’s graphic tee’s. This was a roommates to friends to lovers story with very little angst, that can be read in an afternoon. I loved how we get both Chance and Tyler’s point of views, how they communicated with one another, and had each others backs. If you’re looking for a fast, sweet low angst friends to lovers story, give this one a try.
I give this story 3 stars.
I received an arc from the author for an honest review.
I received a free copy to read and review for Wicked Reads
This was a sweet, low angst friends to lovers book. Tyler and Chance are so good together. The pun t-shirts made me laugh every single time! The chemistry is off the charts but they both hold back to make this a slower burn story. There's not much drama until the later part of the book. Tyler and Chance are super sweet guys that you can't help but root for.
Oh my loved this book, my first by B Harmony but definitely not my last. I was looking for a love story with lots of feels when I found this one, and I wasn't dissapointed. From the first page to the last I loved getting to know Chance and Tyler, watching their love bloom into a possible forever romance was so wonderful, I really enjoyed this fast reading well written book.
Debut author! Chase and Tyler have insta connection feels but both fight it for different reasons! After time and realisation that both their reasons are not really roadblocks at all, HEA. This has laughter, some cool music and the shirts made me giggle!
The B-Side, Perspective book one by B. Harmony. This is a fantastic first book in a series! The author is new but you couldn’t tell it by this story. It’s fantastic! I can’t wait to read more by this author! Love the characters! Chance & Tyler are fantastic together. The storyline is excellent! Loved reading this book!
I LOVED this book! I've recently gotten into the M/M genre and my friend is a friend of this author. She recommended B. Harmony to me and the rest is a match made in heaven. :) I don't want to get into the book too much and spoil it for others; however, I do want to say how well B. Harmony has set the stage for her characters. She fills them out so completely that you are literally cheering for a happy ending from the beginning. I don't know who I liked more Tyler or Chance. I think I have to say Tyler mainly because he is so free spirited and genuine. Oh, his love for the graphic t-shirts! Chance is a sweetheart though and he is so steady and loving and to see him with his family and just taking care of and loving on Tyler was beyond lovely. My favorite quote of the book: "Tyler, you are the B side." I'm going to leave that for you to figure out dear readers, because this book is totally worth the read.
I think I'll end this review with a resounding I can't wait for the next book by B. Harmony.
The B-Side is B Harmony's debut and a perfect introduction to her writing and the world she's created. Filled with heat and heart, the story of Chance and Tyler will have you smiling and swooning all the way through.
I could not put this book down! Chance and Tyler captured me from the beginning with Tyler's funny roommate ad and Chance's sister responding to it. This whole world was fun and focused on family bonds and love. This definitely goes on my recommendation list from now on.
This was a charming read. I loved the feel of the writing and how Chance and Tyler were obviously each other's perfect fit. It was hard not to like them both. Chance is such a good guy, and Tyler is this out and proud gay man who will not let anyone dismiss his worth anymore, especially his homophobic parents.
Then we have Chance. Oh Chance. What a guy. He is finally allowing himself to explore his bisexuality when he is prompted to move and find a roommate at such short notice (thanks to his previous landlord abruptly selling the home). But lo and behold, so is Tyler. I have to say that I absolutely loved his ad for a roommate because it shined a light into Tyler's personality. I loved that Chance was this genuinely good and a gentle man who loved his sister, brother-in-law, and nephews. The fact that both men gravitated towards each other just made sense. Of course they belong together because they were made for each other. They complimented each other. Chance is this natural caregiver and Tyler is extremely devoted to people who he lets in.
That B-Side speech that Chance gave Tyler, oh man, that was romantic. I had hearts in my eyes. This book put me in the best of moods. I had a smile on face for a majority of my time spent reading it, but for one scene that lands one of the main characters in the hospital.
This was a perfect read for me. Absolutely perfect.
This is a very sweet read with two characters that are fully developed and have great chemistry together. The blurb had me wanting to read this and I wasn't disappointed. Chance and Tyler are original characters who grow with each other as the fall in love. The secondary characters are great, too! But I couldn't put the book down from the moment the two men meet! I highly recommend this read!!
