The town of Carter’s Crossing (soon to have a name change) is full of ‘real people’, meaning it’s not a town populated by perfect models or wealthy families. It’s mostly just made up of hard-working, “ordinary” people with big hearts and small town loyalties. With the mill recently closed, they are struggling to find new streams of income to keep the quaint town alive. Enter Mariah Van Delton, commissioned by Abigail Carter (a determined older woman, the town matriah, and a college friend of Mar ...more

Nelson and Mariah don’t have the best meet cute—or any interactions that don’t involve some sort of argument for the first part of the book. These two have completely gotten off on the wrong foot (but their past experiences don’t help that either).

In the lead up to the fake proposal, Kim Findlay gives readers a taste of Carter’s Crossing and several of the residents. Once Nelson and Mariah start fake dating (in anticipation of their planned fake proposal) at about the halfway point of the book,

Just in time for Valentine’s day, Harelquin Heartwarming line has just the book for romance fans. Set in the sweet little town of Carter’s Crossing, Valetine’s Proposal By Kim Findlay, has plenty of swoon worthy kisses that will warm your heart. But wait, they are fake kisses that will soon lead up to the fake proposal between Wedding planner Mariah and the not so happy about weddings, the town veterinarian Nelson Carter. Or is it fake? Findlay has cooked up a romance that will stay with you lon ...more
This was a cute premise for a story, however, I struggled to connect with these characters. I have to admit that upon first meeting Mariah, I did not like her. She seemed to have a real chip on her shoulder and preconceived notions toward men. Mariah definitely improved upon reading farther into the story, but it took awhile for me to warm up to her.

Nelson was a nice main character and he brought an interesting backstory into the book regarding why he was so against wedding planners and big, ela

Small town contemporary romance fans will find themselves falling in love with Kim Findlay’s charming new tale that makes for perfect reading during the most romantic month of the year: A Valentine’s Proposal.

For wedding planner Mariah Van Delton, romance is her business. She lives and breathes everything remotely related to love and thinks that she has found the perfect way to save the small town of Carter’s Crossing and make it one of the country’s most sought after towns. Mariah plans to tran

Oh, I do love a fake-relationship romance.

With a little help, Carter’s Crossing could be a perfect romance destination. Wedding planner Mariah Van Delton has a plan to get the small town its much-needed publicity, and it involves a public Valentine’s Day proposal. Because she needs everything to go as planned, she arranges to be in a fake relationship—with veterinarian Nelson Carter, the man who happens to be her local enemy. They may not like each other, but for the good of the town, they can p

This book uses the Valentine's Day holiday to mash together a couple of classic romance tropes that make for an enjoyable romantic read. You have your hate-at-first-sight with Nelson not trusting Mariah coming to town to help turn Carter's Crossing into a romantic destination town. Mariah isn't a big fan of his, either, from the get go, because she is fiercely independent. Both of them are carrying a lot of baggage from the past that is preventing them from opening themselves up for love.

First in a new series, Cupid's Crossing, in which event planner, Mariah Van Delton, is sent to Carter's Crossing to turn it into a year-round romance destination. She knows her grandfather is acquainted with the elderly woman in whose Victorian home Mariah stays, but what she encounters is a town ready to be remade, if only the town's veterinarian (and grandson to Abigail) will stay out of the way and keep his mouth shut.

Too bad he can't seem to do that, thereby making Mariah's work harder when

A Valentine's Proposal is a delightful clean romance book from the Harlequin Heartwarming line. It's got one of my favorite themes in romance books: a fake engagement. You know, there is always a good reason behind these fake keeps bugging you about your single status; you need a plus one for a wedding, so your male colleague agrees to be your fake boyfriend, etc. In this case, a planned publicized engagement arrangement goes awry, and Mariah needs a replacement engagement... ...more

This one felt very uneven. Everything that was needed to make the plot work--getting Mariah to town, the romance destination idea, and the need for Nelson's fake proposal--felt heavy-handed and more than a little over the top. Neither main character was terribly likeable for more than half of the book--they were better once they started "dating" but it still was as if we were being told that they were developing a real relationship rather than actually seeing it happen ourselves. In the end I wa ...more

This clean Heartwarming romance was sweet, fun to read, and the perfect read to end my day. I loved how Nelson and Mariah end up meeting in the small town of Carters Crossing-so funny! I liked reading about their friendship and them working with Nelson’s grandmother on the town project. Nelson seemed like such a caring Vet and had a way with animals, especially his horses.

Lots of laughs and sweet moments… I really enjoyed this story! I also liked getting to know the towns people and reading abou
