Wow! This book ripped my heart out! It truly sledgehammered and broke it into million pieces! My face stained with tears! They still drip, they won’t stop!

This is heartfelt, real tear jerker, poignant story of Antonia Bennett: a musical prodigy, a unique, outstanding talent who could captivate your heart and enchant your soul with her powerful voice! She’s extraordinary! But she’s also insecure, hiding at your comfort zone! Her mother abandoned her. Her father mistreated her and her love of her
A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL FAIRYTALE I was fortunate enough to get to host an IG live with Xio Axelrod, she told me her friend describe the book as a rock ‘n’ roll fairytale so I decided I was going to steal it! It is a perfect description of this fabulous story!A sweet second chance romance set in the music world. Xio’s Love and knowledge of music really came through on the pages of this book. I’d venture to say it was almost a love story to music and the second chance romance took a backseat to that. Ton ...more

This book🥺. The ache in my chest will not be soothed at the moment. I don’t know how I’m supposed to review this masterpiece of a book. Why is my face so wet? This book is the reason y’all. Have mercy!

This book is beyond girl power. Antonia Bennet is such a force to be reckoned with. How do you guard your heart around the one that broke it several years ago?

This book is all heart, and soul. I can’t tell you the feeling of seeing this fierce, bad ass, m

"She had the crowd in the palm of her hand but didn't seem to realize it."

This book is pitched as DAISY JONES & THE SIX meets A STAR IS BORN, and that is very accurate.

4 stars -- ARC received from publisher for an honest review. Featured on my YouTube channel in a May 4th ARC reading vlog:

I had so much fun reading this book and diving into the world of The Lillys--and all-female rock band. There are multiple conversations in this book about the innate sexis
I'm going to try and keep this review on the shorter side (for me...and it didn’t happen....)
If you're a music lover (especially rock of the 90's), this book is for you.
If you like a rock band that consists of talented women, this book is for you.
If you like second chance romances, this book is for you.
If you like a story that combines a flawed childhood with finding ones path into adulthood, this book is for you.

I honestly picked this book up originally because of the gorgeous cover (I'm a cove

While it did start a little slowly for me, The Girl with Stars in Her Eyes quickly turned into a page turner. This novel is drawing some comparisons to Daisy Jones & the Six; however, I found it much more enjoyable. It is like peeking behind the curtain of the music industry which is a fascinating view alone, but the characters are also well-written and relatable. There is a romance component but it is only one small part of the story. I am not the biggest fan of romance and can be pretty critic ...more
*IT’S LIVE!!!*

An ode to music and childhood friendship, this book hit the spot. Antonia (henceforth called Toni) was dumped in middle of nowhere Pennsylvania by her musician mother at age 12. The only good thing about the podunk town was that she met her best friend (and first love, though neither admitted it) Seb.

Flash forward and Toni is working behind the scenes in music and filling in during studio sessions. When she gets a chance to work with a rock band for 6 weeks- for a nice chunk of ch

Written with an easy grace and vivid style, this story follows Toni Bennett (pun intended), an indie rock singer and guitarist. With abandonment issues thanks to a careless mother and nearly nonexistent father, Toni is careful in both her career and her personal life, facing the innate sexism of the rock music industry and maintaining a careful distance even with her friends. When she has the chance to audition with The Lillies, a hot new all-female band, she gives it a try. Ms. Axelrod weaves i ...more

Big fan of Ms. Axelrod’s writing so when I saw this ARC I requested it. Whatever a writer is supposed to understand about telling a story she seems to get inherently; all her books that I’ve read share a wholehearted and confident approach to giving the reader what will inevitably be a good and intelligently written story.

This book starts in the past with the formative years of one Antonia Bennett aka Toni B. aka Nia. This woman of many names and phenomenal talents is easy to root for. In fact,

That. was. so. GOOD

I loved the authors writing! Their was actual CHEMISTRY between the main character and the love interest. I was so invested in the band and the way the author described how the band was playing it felt like you were apart of the magic. I am so happy this is a series and i’m guessing it’s featuring the rest of the band members i’m so excited!

So this series is gonna center on the Lillys, an all-female band, there's a single out already and there will be music to accompany the book. ALL THE YES

Top tier. I was really crazy about it.

One Sentence Summary: Toni Bennette (yeah, she's heard it all) wants nothing more than to work in music production with Richie, but doesn't have the money to put in to become his business partner, until an offer to play with the Lillys, a hot up and coming band, comes her way.

The indie rock scene of Philadelphia. It kind of felt like it had my name on it even though I'm not a rock fan. Still, I adore music, and Philadelphia has a special place in my heart. So, of course I had to read this one! A

Put this book on your radar for the April release date! The Girl With Stars In Her Eyes by Xio Axelrod is a great read! There's a romance that will tug at your heart strings while you fall in love with the members of an all-female rock band. It's a great insider's look at the music industry (Xio has grown up in it so she knows what she speaks). I especially love that it's about the family you choose. So good! ...more

As a young child, all Antonia "Toni" Bennett knew was the love of music passed down begrudgingly from her mother who, for years, was trying to make it big as a rockstar. When her mother unceremoniously leaves Toni with her father without even a backward glance, Toni comes to the acquaintance of Sebastian Quick. Toni and Sebastian form a fast friendship over both of the love of music. They make a pact to save up enough money to one day leave their small town together. But when Sebastian disapp

Hmmm. I read three quarters of the book in one day, then took four days to finish the rest, and I have very mixed feelings about it. Will I be able to properly put my thoughts into words? Let's find out, shall we?

Right off the bat I need to clarify that this review is based off the audiobook. The publisher was kind enough to allow me to listen-read early, and the narration is the first point upon which I have mixed feelings. I listened to the three minute narration sample before requesting, and

Antonia ("Toni") has always been alone, with music all she had to keep her company. Living in a small town isn't what Toni wants to do with the rest of her life, so when she meets Sebastian, and they click, it seems like that may just be her ticket out of the small town life. They fast become great friends, and all seems right in Toni's life, until Sebastian becomes an adult and sails off into the sunset without Toni. “If you truly love music and books blending together, you have to read this one.”

~ Under the Covers
Antonia “Toni” Bennett grew up around music while her mother tried to make it big. Backstage was like a second home for her until one day her mom decided she couldn’t keep dragging a kid around and it was time for Antonia to go live with her father. This is where she stayed until she found a way to make it out of that small town and that suffocating life where she thought no one cared for her.

Perfect for people missing the deep dive into the recording industry that was Daisy Jones and the Six! You can listen to a little playlist I have going inspired by the book here.

Antonia Bennette grew up surrounded by music, following her lounge singer mother Mary around until she abandoned the tween with her estranged father so Mary could take a new gig. In front of her father's bar, Toni meets Sebastian: another young person struggling to make sense of tough family dynamics through music. Toni

Title: The Girl With Stars in Her Eyes

I’ve been on a music fiction kick ever since I read The Songbook of Benny Lament by Amy Harmon (5⭐️) back in March. I’ve been seeking out any and all music books I can find. After, Benny Lament, I read about Opal & Nev in The Final Revival of Opal & Nev (4⭐️) and now it was all about Toni Bennett and the Lilly’s in The Girl With Stars in Her Eyes! I was not expecting to this book to be so great! It has taken me a week to find the words to write this review and express how this book affected me and how invested I became in the characters, the music and the romance.

Toni was an amazing character to get to know. I loved that the author didn't skimp on the details when it came to telling her story. I loved Toni! I felt for the little girl who only wanted her mom's attention and admiration. As the story progressed, I came to admire the young w

Oh my, what an engrossing read. THE GIRL WITH STARS IN HER EYES by @xioaxelrod @sourcebookscasa is a wonderful mix of coming of age and second chances. I couldn’t put it down, and although I read it a week ago I am still thinking about the characters and longing to get back to them, as if they were characters in a tv series and I could just turn them back on (but I can’t).
It’s the story of Toni, who is dropped off by her mother to live with her deadbeat dad, while her mother leaves to follow he
it's 5/14 now - as usual I've had only a few hours of sleep so I'm exhausted and forgetting things ...

I almost gave this book 4 stars - but it takes a L O N G time to get going. [Also the narrator(s) - the woman at least reads kinda slow so I actually eventually bumped it up from my usual 1.25 speed to 1.5 speed ... (you can't customize it any more in Hoopla)

So - the book starts out almost more women's fic like.
It's literally hours before the hero and heroine have a real conversation.

O.M.G. This book just blew me away! I had no idea what to expect, but if I had any expectations, it exceeded them! This book is a romcom, but is so intertwined wit the music and story of the band, it's perfect for fans of Daisy Jones and The Six, Twice in a Blue Moon, and romcoms alike!

Thank you to Sourcebooks and Netgalley for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Toni B has lived anything but a charmed life. Immersed in the music scene literally since birth, she grew up in clubs and bars while her mother performed. But Toni wanted nothing to do with the spotlight. At 12, Toni is sent to live with her father and meets Seb. The two become fast friends and make plans to run away together. They never get the chance when Seb disappears with half the money they've been saving

What happens when an act of luck brings fame when all a singer wants to do is stay behind-the-scenes?

Antonia "Toni" Bennette is a woman on a mission. Make enough of a name to get steady temp gigs, gain some traction to help create a solid music rep, and avoid the spotlight. Sounds easy, right? Not so much when music industry trauma seeps into every corner of childhood, especially parental abandonment and addiction to fame. I really appreciated that Toni had goals, saved for a future, and wanted

The girl with stars in her eyes is a really engaging and heartfelt romance. The writing is also stellar, I love how Ms. Axelrod manages to flip the musician romance trope on it’s head and make Toni (our heroine) the musician. That was truly a refreshing change of pace. From the very first page I was hooked by the story and already rooting for Toni. Her perseverance and determination throughout the book despite constant obstacles really touched me. Xio Axelrod is a USA Today bestselling author of different flavours of contemporary romance. She also writes what she likes to call strange, twisted tales. Xio grew up in the music industry and began recording at a young age. When she isn’t writing stories, she can be found in the studio, writing songs, or performing on international stages (under a different, no-so-secret name). She lives in Phil ...more
