For the most part, cozy mysteries get notice by me only every once in a while as a respite from the tension brought on by the mind-twisting, gruesome mystery/thrillers that comprise my usual (and preferred) fare. I simply have no stomach for the typical whining, paranoid heroines who don't listen to reason, get themselves in trouble and - miraculously - manage to solve the crime du jour (just once, I'd like to find a male in that role; can't help wondering if he'd be made out to be as brainless ...more

So we revisit the small town of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Which I found out is actually a real place that has cute little shops just like in this book. Feel free to Google for visuals. I found a picture of a popular shop there. Business has picked up for Browyn "Win" Crewse and she's experimenting with some really cool new flavors. But while she's found her stride some of the other shop owners around town are finding their livelihood threatened by plans to build a new mall. Is it revitalization of th ...more

Love this new series! It’s good to read about a nice, family that likes each other. The main characters are intelligent and caring. They each have their own unique personalities, that are very different, yet they love and look out for each other. The mysteries are good and keep your attention. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes present day cozy mysteries about normal people in extraordinary circumstances.

A Game of Cones is the second book in Abby Collette’s Ice Cream Parlor mystery series. It is a cozy mystery and addition to this series. I love the ice cream that Bornwyn "Win" creates and her close-knit family. In A Deadly Inside Scoop Win reopened and revamped her family's ice cream shop Crewse Creamery and it is doing well now.

A Game of Cones explores what happens when small shops thrive and developers gain interest in profiting, with a twist. The twist being that someone working for the deve

A GAME OF CONES, the second book in the Ice Cream Parlor Mysteries by Abby Collette, is a sweet addition to a delightful series. From scrumptious frozen concoctions to a close-knit family to a charming town, Ms. Collette brings visual appeal to the book with her descriptive voice. The protagonist, Bronwyn “Win” Crewse, has revived her family’s ice cream shop, Crewse Creamery, and business is booming. The shops around town are thriving which makes a tempting target for a developer to swoop in and ...more

A Game of Cones is the second book in author Abby Collette’s Ice Cream Parlor mystery series. Set in the small village of Chagrin Falls, a Cleveland suburb, this book begins with a meeting of the local shop owners who are being presented with a plan to buy out a section of the village triangle and put up a mini mall. This is not well received and the presenter, Zeke Reynolds, is booed and a shoe may or may not have been thrown at him. When this company representative is found shot to death in a ...more

I admit it took me a little bit to get into this one but about a third of the way in I found myself keeping the pages turning and not wanting to put it down. I looked forward to being able to pick it up at the end of the day. That is the sign of a good book.

Bronwyn Crewser is running her family's ice cream shop in the small town of Chagrin Falls, OH. A man who represents a business developer comes to the small town with presentations of a new mini mall on their town "triangle" (they don't have

Wyn takes a less active role in investigating but she's egged on by her local best friend and her concern for her New York friend. Wyn's also in a bit of an emotional tug of war between her aunt (the previous owner of the ice cream shop) returning and her previous job offering her a raise if she returns to New York.

The mystery itself was a satisfying balance between red herrings and tangible leads and motives. That said, I figured out who had done it and had a pretty good idea why well before Wy

Why would Bronwyn “Win” Crewse leave her prestigious position at a Manhattan ad agency to return to the quaint village of Chagrin Falls in Ohio? Love for her family. Love for her hometown. Love for the legacy of her grandparents, who opened the first African American business, Crewse Creamery, half a century ago. Win’s late grandmother had the best recipes for hand-made flavors of ice cream the likes of which not seen by any of the big competitors. I love Win’s family and friends; they are defin ...more

I have been looking forward to this next book by Abby Collette ever since I finished A Deadly Inside Scoop! I love the diverse characters, spanning a variety of ethnicities and cultures, and the combination of several different, strong (and quirky) personalities. I also love that it’s set in a Black owned business in a charming small town – and the yummy ice cream Win creates doesn’t hurt either! (Except maybe my waistline lol)

Although not yet a member, Bronwyn Crewse attends a meeting of the Chagrin Falls shop keepers association when things get heated. Zeke Reynolds claims a mall will be built in the midst of the village. No one in the charming village wants a mall and everyone openly shows their disapproval. This is the 2nd installment in the Ice Cream Parlor mystery series. Bronwyn (Win) Crewse is back in Chagrin Falls and is managing the family ice cream parlor. She has made lots of improvements and is making all the ice cream herself just as her beloved Grandmother Kaye did. I did enjoy this book but I have to admit at times it is all over the place. A company has come to town and is buying up property to put up a mall on the town square and the merchants (or at least some) learn of this not from ...more

A Game of Cones, the second book in Abby Collette’s Ice Cream Parlor cozy mystery series, is a delightful treat, with all of the fun and flavor of that sweet dessert. It is the perfect sunny afternoon read.

Bronwyn Crewse, who has returned to Chagrin Falls, Ohio to run her family’s ice cream business, faces trouble on two fronts. First, a developer’s determination to build a mini-mall threatens not only the small-town atmosphere, but also, potentially, the livelihood of the small businesses – inc

Win Crewse has put a whole lot of time and money into bringing new life into her family business, the Crewse Creamery. Business is good but there is danger on the horizon for the shops that call the town square (really a triangle) home. A developer from Dallas wants to turn it all into a mall. Just the word 'mall' is enough to set tempers flaring and voices up to full volume. When the merchants attend a presentation by a couple of envoys of the developers it devolves into a real mess. This one was hard for me to sit down and read because there are so many people standing in the way of Win's success. I was so worried for her and so convinced that there was a wide ranging conspiracy. I won't feel you how the conspiracy turns out, but the Crewes Creamery and Win's vision are safe.
With that out of the way, there is a murder and a company that is trying to build a mall in the middle of Chagrin Falls. There are multiple people from Win's past that show up to make everything more c

A Game of Cones is a fun second installment in the Ice Cream Parlor Mystery series. Once again, Bronwyn Crewse, her family and friends, and their town are in the thick of a murder mystery, this time when a developer from the big city ends up dead at the hands of someone determined to keep him from altering their small town. I'm really enjoying this series and Win with her big wonderful family and crazy but fun-to-sleuth- with friends! She had a visit from a good friend named Rory from when Win worked at an ad agency in New York, and Rory's job was to persuade Win to come back to New York while tempting her with a nice fat pay increase and an office. I love what Win advised her friend later on toward the end. Poor Rory got a little tangled up in the murder that happened to be a guy representing a firm wanting to put ...more

I was curious about A Game of Cones and the first book in the series because of the covers. Berkley has done a lot with illustrated covers in the romance industry and I figured that probably means that this book would be a nice intro sort of cozy mystery and I could dip my toes in the water. Growing up, my favorite books were Nancy Drew and Boxcar Children mysteries or those historical mysteries and the Babysitter Club specials. The point is that I used to love mysteries.
