Atlas

The Book of Death: Atlas is an innovative and unique work of art that deals with the forces of good and evil in a way that is so original that the reader will be transfixed into its pages. The author’s imagination is an endless vortex of creativity. His ingenious ability to create a new world will captivate readers’ imaginations and take their reading experience to the next level. Furthermore, the author’s descriptive details have a beautiful poetic undertow that pulls the reader deeper into the story. “Like darkness, nudity is universal, and the chill of a hollow room is unforgiving to my shivering core. It tickles my bare ribs, nestling in the bones of my arms and legs, fastened to a rough veneer that feels like plywood under my shoulders.”
Throughout this series, the main character, Ramona Knox, is a well-developed character that has devoted her life to fight for what’s right in different worlds filled with lies, deceit, and corruption. Ramona is portrayed as a strong character who exemplifies admirable and altruistic characteristics, and readers can easily relate to her tenacity and persistence in the face of death time after time. Additionally, Ramona’s childhood was filled with horrible atrocities that led her to an encounter with a mysterious being called Death. Throughout Ramona’s life, Death has provided comfort to her during difficult times, and she finds herself drawn to this celestial being in a way that binds her to him on different levels. Readers will have to discover throughout this series whether or not Death is a friend or a foe, which offers a mysterious layer to the story.

When Ramona arrives in her new destination, Atlas, she is given the superhuman task of preventing the uprising of a violent attack against the Grand Council and the destruction of Creation, which is being threatened by an evil force. In this new world, Ramona has to use the skills she obtained as an agent to navigate through treacherous territories, and she has to uncover the clues to figure out who is keeping their own dark secrets. Readers will be kept in suspense throughout the story, and they will find themselves rooting for her to see if her knack as an agent can save herself and the new world into which she’s transported. This book is intense and action-packed, and the reader will be submerged deep into the thick of a supernatural mission. This book is highly recommended to anyone looking for an out of this world adventure!

Death has fallen in love with Ramona Knox. This intensely interesting plot line grabbed my attention right away. The story of Atlas did not disappoint either. Although, this is the third book in the series, The Book of Death, I was able to read it as a stand alone and sort through what I missed in the previous two books with the author's recap in the beginning. It is in no way a quick read to breeze right on through. Gagnier has crafted an entirely other realm in Atlas. One in which the reader can slowly take in and soak up the protagonist's quest to save. Often, throughout my time reading, I would find myself thinking about Atlas, while I was away from the book, mentally digesting the complex and intricate moral battles among and within our main character. In her own words, Ramona is moving from "one twisted scenario to another, compartmentalizing double-crosses, shifting allegiances, misdirections and personal betrayals." If you are a fan of fantasy, you'll love this series.

Murdered FBI agent Ramona Knox is dead. Again. Even the love of her life, Death, otherwise known as Tim, can't help her... until she enters the afterlife realm of Atlas and her challenges truly begin.
I once said that Nicholas Gagnier might just be the poetic voice of his generation and I stand by that. Both literary and earthy, Atlas is an extraordinary novel that defies genre classification and tropes. Angels, gods, magi and dragons, yes, but not like this. Just as you think you've got a handle on this world, it shocks you again. Imaginative, complex, heart rending, violent and mind-boggling, Atlas is one of my favourite ever reads and the easiest 5 stars I've given.

Atlas is the third story in The Book of Death series and is a story of good vs evil.
Ramona Knox is on the side of good and has to try to save herself and the world of Atlas. This story is fast-paced and action-packed, with amazing descriptive passages, supernatural entities, and a battle between good and evil.

This is the 3rd book I've read written by Nicholas Gagnier; he has done a great job at writing a good book; I will definitely be reading more of his books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the characters.
